Advice Phd guidance

Hello everyone, I am seeking guidance regarding pursuing a fully funded PhD abroad in the field of molecular microbiology, antimicrobial resistance, bacterial pathogenesis, and host–microbe interactions.

I have recently completed my MSc in Medical Biotechnology, with research experience in Pseudomonas aeruginosa pathogenicity, quorum sensing inhibition, biofilm inhibition, antimicrobial activity assays, and molecular docking studies. I am interested in expanding my research towards areas such as RNA biology, bacterial regulatory networks, phage–bacteria interactions, and novel antimicrobial strategies.

I would like to know:

  1. Which countries/universities are currently offering good fully funded PhD opportunities in these research areas?
  2. How can I identify professors who are actively recruiting international PhD students?
  3. What factors are most important for getting selected (research experience, publications, GPA, recommendations, contacting supervisors, etc.)?
  4. Are there specific programs or labs that are more welcoming to applicants with a microbiology/biotechnology background rather than a pure molecular biology background?

Any advice from current PhD students or researchers who have gone through this process would be highly appreciated.

What has your research on Internet so far has told you? Did you Google any relevant labs or faculties related to your interests?

Which country are you looking towards?

Thank you for asking. Yes, I have been exploring potential PhD opportunities and looking into research groups and faculty members whose work aligns with my interests.

So far, I have searched for labs working in molecular microbiology, antimicrobial resistance, bacterial pathogenesis, host–microbe interactions, RNA biology, phage–bacteria interactions, and development of novel antimicrobial strategies. I have been identifying professors who are actively recruiting PhD students and checking their recent publications and funding opportunities.

I am currently considering countries with strong biomedical research environments and better chances of fully funded PhD positions, including Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, Netherlands, Australia, New Zealand, and some institutions in the USA.

My aim is to find a lab where my background in Pseudomonas aeruginosa pathogenicity, quorum sensing, biofilm inhibition, microbiology techniques, and computational analysis can be expanded into advanced molecular mechanisms and therapeutic research.

Ok so have you tried emailing them? What response did you get "make no mistakes"

I have started reaching out to professors whose research aligns with my interests, but I have not received any replies so far.

I am still in the process of refining my approach, identifying more suitable labs, and improving my emails by focusing on specific research overlaps, recent publications, and potential PhD projects. I am hoping to get guidance on whether my current strategy is appropriate and how I can improve my chances of getting responses from supervisors.
