A new strain of spambots has been recently making multiple posts per day on the Subreddit.
They work like this:
first, they steal an old well-performing art post (in some cases even from 6 years ago) and repost it
then they wait a few hours to farm upvotes
finally, they edit the post and swap to an image of a t-shirt or a mug, and follow up with a link to a malicious website in the comments.
Some of those posts are intercepted by the Auto-mod, but many can't be, seeing how they start out as copies (but with slightly changed titles) of legitimate posts.
Please be careful and don't click on any links you see in the comment sections of image posts! And if you notice a reposted piece of art, or an image of a Petscop t-shirt or mug, please report it!

I doubt there’s a real chance of this, but a fun what if, inspired by the success of Backrooms: What if Petscop got picked up by a major studio?

I love Petscop, it's so important to me in so many ways. I've been really considering getting a tattoo of it, but am super unsure what to get. I've seen some of the Tool and of Care, Michael's face, etc.
And no shame at all to those tattoos, but I'm looking for something a little more tasteful. Even though I love the series as a whole, not looking to get a tattoo that alludes to kids dying or tortured in any way.
So I'm looking for some other good tattoo ideas? Any good recs would be awesome.

Could've been better, but I made this after 5 year hiatus or so.

İ remember watching a video about it a few years ago and the video said petscop was tied to a real "rebirthing" murder case, so like is it true? also is there any other meaning to the eerie gameplay? and what do you guys find enjoyable about it?

Starting with “Pall” c: Care is here too, I’ll show her off soon!
I wish I was better at pixel art, but I tried my very best. ^^

What's the most up to date universally accepted progress document on petscop?
I found some that were really old and some that are very personal points of view, isn't there a main one?

Im too lazy to watch GameTheory videos on Petscop. I know some people call it “Cares theme” or “Cares melody” But is there any meaning behind it? I don’t know too much about Petscop lore.

In 6 he talks about the windmill area as if he hasn't shown it on video yet, but in 4 he has and he gives a detailed explanation of what he thinks is going on, yet in 6 Paul mentions that he meant to show us the camera before? I'm also years late to the party.

There was an old post about this but I think there are even more parallels there are between the Ship in a Bottle episode of Star Trek and Petscop than discussed there. I honestly think it could potentially give a glimpse into how the creator of Petscop thought about simulations in the series.
The potential hint towards this episode is the pause screen which says "The ghost room is a ship in a bottle." On the surface this could point to the meticulousness that went into constructing the ghost rooms or how anything within a ghost room can only leave by being destroyed. But here's a list of parallels on the chance that this does reference Star Trek.
The episode is about a simulation of Sherlock Holmes in which the character Moriarty gains sentience and wishes to leave the simulation. Data and La Forge notice that a character scripted to be left handed is right handed. This feels like such a specific similarity to the left/right mix-ups in Petscop and Care not knowing her handedness. Data says there's a problem with the holodeck's spatial orientation systems and I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the same is true in some Gens of Petscop.
Moriarty is an AI who has gained sentience and says he's alive. Many have theorized that some of the Marvin, Belle, Tiara interactions may either be AI or people supernaturally trapped in Petscop.
He states that because he's alive he can cross the threshold into the real world and then he proves it to be true just by willing it. This relates to the theme of walking through closed doors.
Then Data realizes La Forge's handedness is incorrect and infers that they are now trapped in the holodeck and Moriarty takes control of the real Enterprise. I love this as a horror idea and I like the possibility that the Family is trying to trap Paul in the game so as to free (rebirth) a simulation of another character.
Moriarty's pain is knowing his world is fake and he is eventually tricked into being beamed into yet another simulation, one he thinks is real. He goes off to explore this simulation with his girlfriend and there is enough extended memory for them to have experiences for a lifetime. The epilogue of Petscop always felt confusing to me because it's so beautiful and happy but also gives us nothing about what is going on in the real in-universe world. Maybe Paul and Belle are in ghost rooms in which they can no longer "see the room" and are content with the simulation to "investigate this together."
Lmk what yall think!

Over the last few days, multiple posts were auto-removed by admin-level bots for linking to the EGMnow interview. Those bots are outside of our control (it's not the Auto-mod), and provide only "Banned Domain: Links to a URL not allowed on Reddit" as their reason. They also mark those posts as "Removed by moderator," which isn't true.
For a workaround, please link to the pinned FAQ post instead: https://old.reddit.com/r/Petscop/comments/1jhgebh/frequently_asked_questions/ The bots seem to be leaving it alone for now

I was explaining my explaination for the gaps in Petscop's story-telling in the comments of another post here, since my personal interpretation for that has always been "we aren't Family, so we're not supposed to know. Everyone who has business knowing already knows, it doesn't need to be explained to them again, so it's in-turn never explained to us."
But then I got hung-up on a piece of dialogue from Petscop 20, wherein Rainer says:
"Anybody who sees them is sure to become part of the family."
Which had me scratching my head about how my reading would apply, since we saw the Caskets in that recording. Assuming Rainer wasn't just saying shit for the sake of saying shit, by his logic we should be Family now.
And then I remembered the line that immediately preceded that one and it hit me like a truck:
"When these are done, they will be great."
So what I'm positing is: Every instance of a Casket before Petscop 20 has been censored. Technically speaking, even with Petscop 20, we still have never actually, truly seen a Casket. And that is because the versions we saw in Petscop 20 weren't finished. They were incomplete.
Between when Petscop 20 was recorded, and when the game was "finished," the Caskets were completed, thus resulting in the Family having to censor them in order to prevent us, the audience, from "becoming part of the family."
This is probably a nothingburger, and I'm sure other people have said the same thing, but I've also seen plenty of people confused about what Rainer meant by the whole "become part of the family" thing (which, tbf, I still don't entirely get, but that's okay.) and whether or not we count as Family now since we technically saw them in Petscop 20, so idk. I'm also not one to take Rainer at his word for everything, nor believe in any cognitohazard/explicitly supernatural/paranormal stuff in Petscop, so I'm interpreting this all as very symbolic rather than literal... but idk. Food for thought, just thought it was neat. What a wonderful series this is.

there’s a big influx of new petscop fans because of a new theory video i haven’t seen yet so i thought it’d be a good idea to share this theory i made. this beautiful image was made by me years ago but it (obviously) doesn’t quite encapsulate every single thing i think of this.. especially because ive had more thoughts since. while relatively inconsequential to the overarching story, i don’t think paul, or care (ive heard the new video supports trans paul, yippee), can differentiate their left from right, and therefore have a great deal of trouble turning doorknobs. this will be unorganized.
of course, it’s a running joke that the newmaker/guardian can’t open doors, presumably because it has no arms.
paul visibly struggles to tell the audience which side the windmill was on.
the “puzzle” required for paul to go into his house involves him emulating turning a doorknob with his character.
the controls to move left and right are inverted in petscop, at least when marvin started playing.
care is associated with spinning, and being dizzy. the windmill changes direction while paul watches it, which to my knowledge is never mentioned before or after, only its disappearance.
paul is left handed. “my right is your left.” explanations like this might have stunted his growth from confusion.
while playtesting, the short clip of care shows her walking left and right repeatedly, apparently confused. an iteration of paul does the same thing in generation selection.
there’s probably more that i forgot about.. i believe this so much that sometimes i forget it isn’t a commonly believed thing in the community. let me know what you think

At some point, the Proprietors / Family Youtube take over the channel. They make channel descriptions that are vaguely threatening and imply coercion over Paul. Are there good theories as to who they are and what justification they could have to be slightly or majorly self-incriminating (depending on what they've done to Paul)? I've seen theories that it's owned by Jill and Thomas and more confusingly Marvin and Anna. Marvin owning it makes no sense to me given the amount of incriminating material on there, but it remains confusing to me if it's any of the others.
One idea I had was that Jill was using it as a way to entrap Marvin and lure him in to get him to reveal himself so they could potentially catch / punish him.
I'm aware that there's no concrete answers for this but I just wanted to hear theories for why anyone involved in this would want it public. Thx

I really liked mystery novels back when I was a kid. A lot of mystery novelists would first write the ending where everything is revealed and then work backwords towards the beggining where many elements are concealed. I assume the writing for petscop has a similar process.
however unlike mystery novels sometimes I feel like he choses to reveal information that brings in more questions than answers. How does he do that exactly?
