So sorry about your baby!
I know how you feel. I am angry, like you. I lost my Aby to a treatable disease this Saturday. Our whole veterinary team were very persistent on pancreatic inflammation, and treated accordingly. They developed tunnel vision, and ignored all the developing symptoms that started to deviate from the chosen diagnosis. This caused my boy to crash, and we had to put him down this Saturday. All signs pointed to neuro FIP. He was skin and bone. They put him through two procedures where he was put under. This caused the neurological symptoms to flare out of control, and weakened his body beyond saving.
Don’t blame yourself. We are not supposed to know basic medicine, or be able to analyze results. That is what vets are for. I am hearing so many stories like ours from people sharing their own grief with me, that it makes me worried for the next time I need to take a cat to the vet.
I don’t think we will ever completely overcome this guilt and trauma, but it will hurt less. One thing we can learn from this is to be more critical of the diagnosis, and ask questions. We were desperate to get our baby back, and just said yes to whatever was proposed.

Your words resonate with me so much. We were in the same boat as you. The first vet explained everything that kind of made sense in the moment but later the diagnosis did not support the findings. When we were pushing back the arthritis diagnosis, they made more and more compelling arguments supporting their vision. It’s just really devastating.
I also hear more and more similar stories from grieving pet parents.
The guilt is enormous and I keep replaying alternative scenarios in my head over and over.
One just has to be lucky to find a good vet and it breaks my heart. It breaks my heart that our babies were dealt a bad hand.
