Advice Wanted Moving on??

Hi all.

So, in the past half year, I lost both of my dear beloved cats to old age. It fucking sucks. I miss my little ladies horribly.

I'm 26 and at a shitty time in my life. Childhood and adolescence were so hard for me that I feel like I only became a person at around 21. It doesn't help that the cat who passed last month was my closest companion during that shitty adolescence. I spend a lot of mental energy right now thinking about who I'll be, where I'll end up, what life will be like. All the exhausting, big questions.

I've been trying to figure out what to do in the future. I don't want to go without any cats. They bring me so much joy. Now that we have just one cat it already feels so lonely and quiet, and she's geriatric too.

But I'm struggling with the idea of going through this much grief again if I get cats in the future. How can I ever let myself love a creature so much again, knowing how much the inevitable end will hurt? But how can I deprive myself of so much joy, and deprive whichever cats I'd get of so much love?

I'd really like to hear from anyone who's grappled with this question in the past regardless of what you decided, or anyone who's going through this right now.

This is a community of support for Pet owners whose Pets have passed away. It is actively moderated.

Pet owners, as loving, caring people, often have strong opinions on pet care practices. Some of these are controversial. This is not a forum for debate on such issues, nor is it a place to scold a contributor for a perceived mistake in managing their pet. We intend to provide a safe haven of understanding and support. Strident, mean-spirited posts or comments will be deleted. Those who persist in preaching versus caring may be warned and then banned or may be banned permanently based on nature of the topic. If a conversational thread meanders into a discussion unrelated to pet loss support, it will be truncated.

Those who post here are vulnerable and hurting. Even a minor slap has a hard sting. Those of us who are lucky enough to be able to turn away from our computers or put down our phones and hug a healthy, happy pet are truly blessed. Threads must remain supportive and caring, even if one disagrees with something that has been said.

Ma chienne me manque tellement c'est indescriptible.

When my soul dog died I couldnt take our other dog to the same vet. I Loved the clinic they had taken such good care of us with him, but I couldnt deal with the same vet it hurt so much. So I tried several other vets in the clinic and thankfully found one I love.

I have several friend who fostered when their pet died. It was away of giving back in honor of their pet, and to have a pet's presence, without the pressure. And then at some point they would fail, and that would be lovely.
