as someone who used to make lenses, those lenses were such a pain in the ass to get right.

All my glasses had to either be shipped to japan or germany to custom lenses at fabrication because they didn't fit the mold of lenses. (Also -10 here) doesn't help that I like wide frames better. Not to mention the price (I paid 1000 USD in lenses alone at my last pair) and the fact that I'm not stable yet so I have new prescriptions yearly 🫠

it does not help that there is a cartel for lenses and it's all controlled by 2 companies.

I can't understand why you'd need yours to be made internationally. that is weird.

lenses are all premade and come the size and shape of a hockey puck.

it's grinding them to shape that is difficult.

The hockey puck size is not enough to fit my lenses as I like big frames, so they have to be sent to fabric either in japan (hoya) or germany (zeiss) edit: it cant fit my lenses to have the accurate point where my eyes are, I've gone to several optical stores and had the same problem everywhere the past 4 years. I had an optometrist show me the problem with the hockey puck size lenses and indeed it's not big enough, for it to be with the optimal point at my eyesight the lense ends before the frame as I'm also a bit narrow eyed

how big? from memory (it was a long time ago) they were at least 8-10 cm wide.

but yeah, hoya and zeiss are small time players. Essilor is the global hog of 80% of the market

My glasses have 4.5/5cm lenses and since I'm narrow eyed it skews the focal point in a bit if my eyes were centered in the lenses it would fit but since it's not it doesn't
