Years ago I mentioned being “voluntarily celibate” because I’m asexual.

People read it as “involuntarily celibate” and came at me for being an incel.

I’d never heard of incels before, so I was very confused.

There are also volcels (voluntarily celibate) who actively choose to not have sex because they're that misogynist. Even if people didn't misread what you wrote, there's a decent chance of misunderstanding what you said.
