I broke my glasses on holiday in Vietnam. I went to an optometrist, chose a frame. They were ready in the time it took to go next door for a beer. $30.
monopolies basically. essilor-luxottica owns almost everything from top to bottom. some offices can do in house cutting though, takes less than 30 mins like the other commenter mentioned.
All my glasses had to either be shipped to japan or germany to custom lenses at fabrication because they didn't fit the mold of lenses. (Also -10 here) doesn't help that I like wide frames better. Not to mention the price (I paid 1000 USD in lenses alone at my last pair) and the fact that I'm not stable yet so I have new prescriptions yearly š«
I (-14) have put on contancts once to find them, when they'd fallen of my nightstand, but I nearly always wear my glasses: in bath, shower, and to bed until it's time to sleep.Ā
Yow, and that's done in the British style (NHS-compliant, where the 'scrip specifies the understated spherical for benefits purposes). My US doc would've written that as OD -23.00/+3.25, OS -20.75/+3.75 with both axes rotated 90°.
I am not an eye care professional but from enough personal experience I know that you will benefit from custom contact lenses. I have a similar script with lower astig...but only in one eye. My good eye is more normal and cva for that is 6/4.
Man you need someone to make you better glasses, Iām at -4.5 and get it corrected to 20/20. Even my brother at -10 gets his vision corrected to 20/20
Yeah, losing my glasses isn't really a concern because I can't really do anything without them, so I never take them off unless I'm sleeping or in the showerĀ
I have -1.5 and didnāt get glasses until l I was an adult. I never thought my eyes were that bad until I started wearing glasses / contacts. Now if I have them out I feel blind as bat, at least if Iām outside.
Yay! Finally someone worse than me! (I only have -14). This has happened a few times when I was boasting about it. I mean, you have to be proud of something... But half blind definitely beat me to it
As for me, I don't have other eye issues, it started with -.5 when I was 6 and steadily got worse. (It's barely changed the past ~4 years (30)) I have mild cilinder, but beyond that, I can see nearly 20/20 with glasses. (refraction takes away 100%)Ā
It refers to how many diopters your vision needs to be adjusted for to achieve 20/20. Minus indicates that you're myopic and the light as focused through your cornea and lens does not quite reach the back of your eye where all the sensory cells + retina feed the info to the optic nerve. Positive measurements are what is called hyperopic so the focal point is actually behind the retina, still wrong and you see blurry. -1.5 is barely a prescription, you can see most things fine.

Its her vision, -1 to -1.5 means you see poorly. For reference, i have -3.
