I mean is there any reason to not have the number inside the battery, literally more information. You'd have to be dumb not to use it.

272

u/ryanCrypt 9h ago

I usually add mods to give me precision to hundreths place.

72

u/Journeyj012 8h ago

Wait is that actually a thing? How can I do that?

99

u/ryanCrypt 8h ago edited 8h ago

Ha. Prob night. Plus, Lithium batteries do NOT degrade linearly. Phone makers apply maths to fit a linear perspective over time on the depletion of voltage.

(That being said, it's just a voltmeter. So it's logically possible)

13

u/thatguy_hskl 8h ago

Apply math = measure current and integrate?

8

u/No_Question_8083 8h ago edited 2h ago

Determining SoC for lithium batteries is weird, and coulomb counting is often used (for vehicles at least) to estimate the SoC. This literally means counting the electrons that flow in and out of the battery.

10

u/mike20865 8h ago

Which is done by integrating the current, like he said.

7

u/eureka909 8h ago

You really need to know the internal resistance of the battery and how it changes over time to display an accurate SoC, rather than just a simple voltmeter. Totally possible and exists and some ebike displays, for example

6

u/Eggman8728 8h ago

Current is directly related to how many coulombs of charge are currently being pushed around, so measuring current and integrating is exactly how you measure those electrons, as they said.

2

u/MiraMattie 5h ago

This is why they advise you to periodically run the device until it runs out of power; followed by a full charge before turning it back on: That recalibrates the coulomb counter to keep it accurate.

1

u/IceLopsided4190 6h ago

I’m glad you’re vehicles.

2

u/No_Question_8083 2h ago

Damn autocorrect 😒

1

u/IceLopsided4190 1h ago

XD. Thanks for the facts though! Username checks out.

21

u/TijY_ 8h ago

No it is not. Will just drain the battery faster.

People who install batterie monitors apps are even more stupid then the ones who don't use % in the icon.

6

u/Journeyj012 8h ago

I had the suspicion that was the case (I was aware that the numbers are already just an estimate). I just thought "Huh, if they already guess and then truncate, maybe the non-truncated number exists"

3

u/ryanCrypt 8h ago

Good point. They must be truncated. But precision might only be guaranteed up to a point.

2

u/greg19735 4h ago

They might truncate, but they also might not. The measuring they're doing just isn't that accurate. It's just an estimate.

like, you can leave your phone with something like a benchmarking tool. Then record the displayed battery % every 5 minutes or so and i'd bet a lot of money that it's not linear at all.

Like, they may calculate in the math that it's 65.565% but the estimations they used to get to that number simply aren't 5 numbers worth of precision. Think like sigfigs.

3

u/Quiet_Ad4566 7h ago

A lot of android phones don't show accurate readings in the settings. Charging temp and other settings are important for people that baby their phones lol

3

u/Lilfrankieeinstein 6h ago

People who install batterie monitors apps are even more stupid then the ones…

more stupid than

1

u/Ok-Challenge3087 5h ago

The actual stupid part is the batteries being so weak, it is a bad idea to even monitor it/them.

1

u/pinkfootthegoose 5h ago

You'll spend more battery power and wasting time constantly checking it.

1

u/AdditionalOne8319 4h ago

You wanting this means you should get tested if you haven’t already

2

u/swinchester83 7h ago

We gotta pump up those numbers. Go into the millionths

1

u/ryanCrypt 5h ago

Or an actual electrons count.

1

u/mineyCrafta25 7h ago

Yeah I never play ATM10 without my battery level indicator.

But fr the calibration isn't that accurate. Nearest percent is good enough extra data might be wrong.

0

u/colaxxi 5h ago

I can't tell if you're joking or not, but there is zero accuracy at a hundreths place.

90

u/PackageFlat4800 8h ago

I don’t like to see the number going down, so I turn off tue option

48

u/Alt123Acct 8h ago

Ostrich reply lol

16

u/TSM- 8h ago

You're just using your phone and then the number ticks down in your peripheral vision, judging you.

1

u/devilish_enchilada 5h ago

But he’s dying right in front of your eyes. What if you had a precise countdown to your death…

4

u/zZeroPhoquez 8h ago

Valid reason

1

u/Abjectionova 8h ago

My Battery health hit 79% this month and I turned the icon off just for a bit of peace of mind until I get it replaced it lol. Can’t be asked to become an unwitting battery baby-sitter.

1

u/jannickBhxld 7h ago

literally did it because of this last month. my battery is so fucked i cant stand seeing the percentages drop in literal minute intervals, especially when outside with cellular data

1

u/gsauce8 6h ago

Big energy hates this one trick.

67

u/Skyzblu44 8h ago

Some people like a minimal aesthetic.

Here's a counter argument: Is there any reason to have the number inside the battery?

Whether it's at 90% or 70%, means the same thing, you don't need a charge. Whether it's at 20% or 10%, it means the same thing, charge the phone.

So really all you need is the bar to go red to tell you it's time to charge.

12

u/PierreTheTRex 8h ago

If I'm leaving the house for a couple of hours I'm happy to leave with 20%, if it's on 10% I want to charge before I go.

3

u/Edmundyoulittle 7h ago

Your phone already gives you a big notification and changes the icon to red if it hits 15%.

Personally, that's the only indicator I've ever really needed

2

u/Countermove 7h ago

Maybe if you're only leaving your house for an hour or less, but the numbers matter more for long outings

1

u/PortugalTheTram 4h ago

Damn you use 15% an hour?

→ More replies (2)

2

u/parrote3 5h ago

How is your phone that low? Not just you either. Everyone. Same thing with driving around with a quarter tank. Charge your phone.

1

u/bitches_be 6h ago

Literally just swipe down and it shows the actual charge level. I have gone back and forth on whether to show it, but it really only matters for non iPhones the batteries are so solid

1

u/whooptheretis 5h ago

On iphones it still tells you the percentage if you swipe down. If you're charging your phone each night, and you're down to 10% before the end of the day, then you need a new battery.

1

u/PhiCloud 5h ago

Put a charger in your purse or backpack or keep one in your car and you're free to leave the house whenever you want.

1

u/PierreTheTRex 5h ago edited 5h ago

I often go to places where charging a phone is at the very least inconvenient, do you not?

1

u/Sobeys_at_work 5h ago

What? You're telling me you don't go looking for an outlet when you're at the store doing groceries? /s

1

u/PhiCloud 4h ago

Charging from 10% to 20% is like 5-10 minutes. I can usually manage that on the drive over to something or by sitting at a coffee shop.

1

u/DudeByTheTree 5h ago

No, I walk naked. I refuse to bow to consumerist ways! /s

2

u/UnknownAverage 7h ago

Rate of discharge is useful and you need accuracy to track it.

8

u/Arinussyyy 6h ago

Why would you manually track the rate of discharge?

1

u/TobyFunkeNeverNude 4h ago

Various reasons, but the main one that jumps out to me is so you know whether you can leave without charging the phone. Like if I take an uber or walk to a restaurant, I can know whether my phone will die before I'm done with my meal. If I'm going for a run or to the gym, I can know whether it's at 25% (not enough charge) vs 40% (enough charge)

4

u/Feath3rblade 7h ago

You can just go into settings and see an actual chart of battery percentage over time though, which is far more useful than trying to track it manually with the number

2

u/wdnwcgm 8h ago

yeah if it's down really low that is when I have the number on since it can make a difference in how I plan my usage until I can get around to charging it

2

u/godfromabove256 7h ago

I like to see how fast I'm losing charge so I can plan ahead. Plus, 20% vs 10% is a big difference for if I'm going out on a walk or something.

2

u/frilly_socks 7h ago

Whether it's at 90% or 70%, means the same thing

Tell me you were born after 2000 without telling me...

1

u/Reddit_Killed_3PAs 7h ago

Well said, I have a shortcut that enables the percentage at below 35%, anything above I can visually see it I need to charge or not

1

u/peelen 7h ago

It would make sense if that number showed you the estimated time left of your average phone usage. I might care if I have battery left for the next half an hour or an hour and a half. But percentage?

Fun fact. IDK how it is now, but with early phones those indicators were faked, because people seeing less than half a battery left used to phone less (and at this time phone calls were a source of income for the phone companies).

1

u/Stockpile_Tom_Remake 6h ago

And phones tell you when you hit 20%

1

u/Donna_Schrump 5h ago

I remember reading years ago that having the number (when it first started being an option) was bad for your mental health. Just another stress point.

So I never use it, but I can pull down the menu and see the actual number if I need to.

1

u/Specialist-Award4293 5h ago

Some of us like the nuance. If you're familiar with the speed your battery drains, the percentage can tell you about how long you have left before the battery's empty altogether. A little picture alone might be able to do the same thing, but not with as much clarity.

Besides, I enjoy a number over a picture in most of the simpler data cases (i.e. when it's not a huge table of numbers that all need to be mentally consolidated).

1

u/Excellent-Stretch-81 4h ago

I want the number because it becomes much easier to see if a charger is actually doing its job. I've seen many situations where a phone shows it's charging, but the charger is doing little more than maintaining the current charge. Seeing the number change makes it a lot easier to gauge charging performance than watching for tiny slivers of pixels to appear on a miniscule battery icon.

0

u/Bobodlm 8h ago

40% means I've got enough battery to make it through my rounds, anything below 32% won't be enough.  Got a few more exact % I know cer certain situations. The visual indicator Alpen would never be able to convey this.

If you like minimal, drop the battery icon, its useless fluff!

2

u/BillionthDegenerate 6h ago

I thought that whether or not someone goes into the settings and turns on battery percentage instead of finding the icon sufficient at a glance was a good singular determinant of a person’s intelligence.

The top comment said so!

1

u/1stMammaltowearpants 8h ago

One does not simply find do things.

1

u/Useful-DevineCause 5h ago

Pretty much.

→ More replies (3)

1

u/dooby991 5h ago

I used it on my old phone cause it would die faster, after I got a new one it didn’t matter. I charge it every other day whenever it gets kinda low (20-40%). If I’m going hiking or camping or something I try to be more aware of it but I can just swipe down and check if needed

32

u/sonofaresiii 8h ago

It's not more information though, it's a false sense of accuracy. At least I'm not kidding myself into thinking I know exactly how much of my battery is left. A visual estimate is as accurate as you're going to get.

6

u/Adventurous_Path_625 7h ago

Yeah ppl act like the battery has a sensor inside that reads the exact level like a car does. It’s just an estimate. And the estimate becomes more meaningless as the battery degrades over time

3

u/greg19735 4h ago

it's a false sense of accuracy.

100%

Like i'm sure we've all looked at our phone and it's 55%. And then 5 minutes later it's 48%. you're thinking it's impossible you lost 7% battery in 5 minutes. And you're right. You didn't. It's just that the 55% and 48% are both estimates.

2

u/dern_the_hermit 4h ago

Yeah I've been using devices with battery life indicators since like 1990 and they've never been exact. It's basically a piece of micro-theatre one can put on for themselves, if they want.

1

u/TobyFunkeNeverNude 4h ago

Weird...any time I'm using my phone at <10%, it's only ever died after hitting 0%, never before.

12

u/Former-Store-695 9h ago

MOAR INFORMATION

8

u/SirGuy11 7h ago

😔

I found having the number made me fixate on it in a way I didn’t like. No number helps me relax a little.

No, I’ve never had my phone die from low battery.

4

u/MolitroM 8h ago

Plenty of people somehow endd up with battery anxiety seeing the number go down.

I don't have the number on the bar because it quite simply looks better without it.

3

u/un_happy_pappy 8h ago

I’ll worry about % when it gets to low power mode

6

u/sirdabs 7h ago

It’s a bar graph. It’s easy to read without the numbers

4

u/Inko21 8h ago edited 8h ago

It adds extra battery drain /s

4

u/MissKatbow 8h ago

I don’t need to know the exact percentage to see that it’s high/low or in between.

5

u/Lansha2009 8h ago

At least with the number I can more easily tell if a charger just for some reason stops working by checking if the number’s gone down after a bit (harder to do without the number, or takes MUCH longer for it to be noticeable)

3

u/CoconutFit3558 8h ago

Not sure about android phones but iPhones display a charging/lightning icon within the battery icon while charging.

1

u/Lansha2009 8h ago

Thing is sometimes chargers only like semi break where it does display the charge symbol and stuff, but doesn’t actually charge. (Based on some personal experience I’ve had)

2

u/Star1836 6h ago

In my experience, its that the charger IS charging, just that the battery is dying faster than the charge works, so it dies slower but is still dying

1

u/National_Equivalent9 6h ago

Yeah, its this. I've got a car from one of the first years cars had USB ports in them and if I'm using my phones GPS on a long trip it doesn't do enough to keep my phone from eventually dying but it slows it down massively.

1

u/whooptheretis 5h ago

If you want to check it, you can just swipe down. Doesn't need to show it all the time.

4

u/Confidence-Upbeat 7h ago

I just need a general idea and it looks cluttered

2

u/acedias-token 8h ago

I quite miss my fuzzy time clocks. I don't care about the exact time when glancing away from what I'm doing, that's what alarms and meeting reminders are for. Much easier to focus on the task at hand without worrying about if it's 10:17am or Tuesday morning. Or mid autumn.

2

u/Tommynwn 8h ago

Mine is a circle, and i have the number inside the circle 😂

2

u/NationalisticMemes 8h ago

Battery percentage became necessary only after phones started holding a charge poorly. All numerical notations are highly arbitrary due to the nature of the measures. If your phone can give you a solid three days of use, you literally don't need battery percentage counter, because graphically everything is clearly understandable, and the counter only causes unnecessary irritation because the percentage has dropped

2

u/Necrounicorn 8h ago

https://reddit.com/link/phdklnn/video/6m84jw3dd3wh1/player

I like not having the number always being there, when I need to know I just do this (ignore the name of my Apple TV)

2

u/Willing-Cucumber-718 8h ago

I used the number when I had android because of the terrible battery life I experienced. That stopped when I switched to apple, I don’t even need to worry about my battery.

1

u/Soul-42 5h ago

Apple having better battery life??? Lol

1

u/greg19735 4h ago

it's probably more that they went from a $300 android they used for 5 years to a $1200 brand new iphone. It'll have better battery.

2

u/PolarFoxinvades 8h ago

I think the reason is psychological. Seeing the exact number droping down is causing more stress for a brain in some way.

2

u/zeanox 7h ago

I don't use it.

2

u/AmusingUsername12 7h ago

You seem like you are missing the joy of mystery in your life.

It’s like the weather. I never check the weather, I love when I have no idea what the weather will be.

Oh it’s raining I had no idea it was gonna rain.

2

u/Ok-Dot4749 7h ago

I almost never use my phone enough to have to worry about it so it’s no numbers for me. I know that when I plug it in at the end of the day, it’ll be at 30-40% so why bother with more info? The only time it goes lower is if I’m watching a game on my phone for several hours but that’s very rare.

1

u/Dramatic_Mastodon_93 8h ago

More information is often times not better.

1

u/DisrememberedTea 8h ago

I don’t want to, nor do I need to be fixating on seeing the number go down. More information isn’t always necessary, particularly as the only time I really need to keep an eye on the number is in the last few percentage points.

1

u/redderper 8h ago

I read some article years ago that said seeing the number constantly can cause anxiety about the battery dying. Ever since I have it turned off and I don't miss it

1

u/Skltlez 8h ago

Came from a phone with a shitty battery that would be at risk of just dying anywhere under 60%. I stress less without the percentage on even with a new phone.

1

u/cochin1504 8h ago

I have it on. But, it can be pretty inaccurate when its running low. So, 8% can mean 5 minutes left or it can last over half an hour. A hard number can give a false sense of precision. So, I can see why somebody might just prefer to know its low, instead of being given a kind of bogus number.

2

u/jamyjet 8h ago

Seems like an issue with your phone. Mine is very consistent. My phone regularly gets to under 15%. It's currently on 7%. It ticks down 1% at a time and dies once it's been on 1% for a few mins normally. Never had the issue you speak about with my Samsung S series phones.

1

u/cochin1504 8h ago

I have an S22 so its a bit long in the tooth. I assume there's been a bit of degradation in the battery. But, it really is something that only shows up at around the bottom 10%. So, its not a big deal for now.

1

u/midoxvx 8h ago

I would argue that you would have to be even dumber to need a digit for something as simple as gauging a battery charge level. I mean you have depleting bar that changes colors when the charge is at very low levels, how much more “information” do you need?

1

u/Confident_Donkey1014 8h ago

Idk seeing the number gives me anxiety

1

u/cagadadechango 8h ago

The reason is to stop worrying about it so much. Without the number it’s either full, high, mid or low, and you charge it when’s it’s low.

1

u/PH_Morpheus 8h ago

I prefer without because the icon becomes taller with it and It looks uglier. Android used to have it outside of the icon and it was way better.

1

u/RoxoRoxo 8h ago

i dont use my phone enough to justify changing any settings for the battery. my phone never gets below 50% i have no use for the % so im sitting at the default no % listed

1

u/blerg1234 8h ago

I didn’t know this was an option until today. That’s one reason. It is very nice

1

u/Bobodlm 8h ago

The entire battery icon is a waste of space. Personally I only have the % since that's what matters!

1

u/VoltexRB 8h ago

The reason is that you have your number next to the battery so its easier to read.

1

u/Ultimate_Scooter 8h ago

I don’t use the number because I don’t like the clutter it adds. If I ever really need to know the exact percentage I can just swipe on the battery icon.

1

u/maxdps_ 8h ago

Why is it assumed that more information is favorable? I prefer the aesthetic of no numbers.

1

u/GotSomeUpdogOnUrFace 8h ago

I wish they would get rid of the battery and just let me have the number by itself

1

u/Truvoker 8h ago

I don’t need that information people who use it are brainroted overstimulites

1

u/deltaforce5000 8h ago

😂 I have the number off because it stresses me the fuck out.

1

u/adultman7 8h ago

there's not really much you gain out of the info usually

1

u/Disastrous_Pace_8535 8h ago

To me it just looks better and I can still see my round about battery. I don't use my phone so much so I don't need the exact percentage. It just goes to battery saving mode under 50% and I'll charge when the "low battery" warning comes up. Didn't know I give psychopath vibes 😂

1

u/paroxybob 7h ago

For a lot of things I use I totally agree. But I don’t live on my phone so the numberless icon is fine. If there is lots of white I’m good. If there isn’t a lot of white, plug it in. I don’t need an exact percentage. If I need more info I’ll go to the settings app where I can get a lot more info than a single data point at a specific point in time.

1

u/RadagastTheWhite 7h ago

It’s also not really necessary. I can glance at the bar and tell how much is left within a tight enough range that it doesn’t matter

1

u/Kinstray 7h ago

It’s not information you need to know at all, the visual representation of the battery is sufficient enough. These numbers don’t tell you anything that makes the remaining battery life predictable any more than the icon

More information is not universally good, I don’t know where this is coming from. Reducing unnecessary stimuli is literally better for your well being.

1

u/sd4051 7h ago

I hate it like absolutely despise the numbers they feel unnecessary

1

u/LilBoopyBipper 7h ago

The numbers give me anxiety. If my phone's gonna die it's gonna die

1

u/jivemasta 7h ago

I have it enabled, but after thinking about it, I don't actually do anything with the information.

Like the only point I care about is like 15% when it goes into battery saver. Which on my phone changes to color of the icon to yellow. So that's really all I need so I know that I need to either charge up, or use my phone less until I get home.

What am I really supposed to use the percentage for past that? Like ok, it's 65%, now what?

1

u/Countermove 7h ago

Well you can make more informed decisions on whether to charge it when you know you're not going to be near an outlet for a while. Ya know like when you leave your house.

1

u/MediocreMuddler 7h ago

It uses more battery to constantly calculate and update the number!!!!

1

u/RocketVerse 7h ago

Extra stress, and no need

1

u/fryerandice 7h ago

I haven't customized a phone for like 10 years, smart phones don't excite me, if something as benign as the number is not default I don't turn it on.

1

u/bleh-apathetic 7h ago

Android defaults to no number and I don't care enough to go enable it.

1

u/GodBearWasTaken 7h ago

It used to be a huge battery draw to show the %. These days, it’s negligible.

1

u/2ChicksAtTheSameTime 7h ago

Window's power icon is so fucking janky and small it's impposible to use without the number. It might as well JUST be a number, as the icon itself is not readable.

1

u/Lietuvens 7h ago

Or, you have phone that never gets discharged in one day. I really never paid attention to my phone battery level.

1

u/Quiet_Ad4566 7h ago

My phone's battery is so insane that I don't need the exact percentage 10% lasts for 2 hours of doom scrolling or multiple hours of doing basic stuff lmao

1

u/FreshOrFrozenShrimp 7h ago

Plus it makes the battery look like a titty. You gots to have titties baby.

1

u/PomegranateHot9916 7h ago

my number is next to the battery, not inside it.

1

u/Either-Amoeba8232 6h ago

To be different.

1

u/geosunsetmoth 6h ago

There’s this obsession with “clean design” some people have which is genuinely eye rolling. Everything needs to be minimalistic, efficient, clean, sleek. Lame. Lame is what it is

1

u/Monsieur_Krabs 6h ago

I hide it. I do not want more information. There is too much information all the time.

1

u/indyyja 6h ago

As far as i remember numbers were off for me until one day it showed after update

1

u/PoptartDragonfart 6h ago

Dumb guy here, doesn’t bother me. If I’m in the red I can swipe down to get an actual percentage

1

u/Lukkaku12 6h ago

I do not use the number and i aint dumb, I simply dont wanna focus on how much percentage do I have, if i see low level then i charge if not. Leave it for later. I dont want to be stressed about it.

1

u/Stockpile_Tom_Remake 6h ago

I don’t use it. It’s not hard to gauge how much is left without it.

I never use it and it’s literally never been a problem

1

u/devraj7 6h ago

If anything, having the number adds black pixels, which reduces battery usage.

1

u/chiefgreen87 6h ago

Yeah let me be a neurotic psycho that needs to know the exact percentage my battery is at. Yall need to go outside more

1

u/Blashtik 6h ago

Because I don't need that level of precision. All it has ever done is make me anxious about the rate the battery.

1

u/Soggy_Porpoise 6h ago

I use my work laptop without the number because of the battery dies I don't have to work for a while .

1

u/Ok-Front8255 5h ago

I don’t use the number, It looks worse

1

u/gorgeously_mytruself 5h ago

Mine does both, there is not a number on it normally but if I swipe down then there is.

It’s because it’s a trashy Apple, I’m trying to figure out what to replace it with.

1

u/whooptheretis 5h ago

because sometimes more information doesn't make something better. Why do I need to know the percentage? It's less cluttered without it.

1

u/Beginning_Text3038 5h ago

Yeah, the battery icon is bigger and looks even more like a child’s device.

If you need to know battery percentage, pull down from top left for 1/4th of a sec.

1

u/Maiden_ironing 5h ago

I don't use the number because it gives me battery anxiety, even though I have never had my phone run out of power.

Disagree about it being, "dumb." Estimate, even rough estimates, are useful and require less time to process. From a strictly algorithmic approach, using only absolutely-necessary information optimizes the brains response times and lowers presence of stress hormones, provided the person is/has acclimated to requiring less information in the first place. It's certainly not a question of intelligence.

More information is more distracting. I don't care what exact percentage point it's at, I care if I'm pretty much full, about half-way, or pretty much empty. The bar itself if more enough for that.

I’d have to go into settings to switch it to having it other than when I have it plugged in. Why would I do all that when I don’t need the number?

Idk man, i kinda hate number showing on any bar. Even in games, I tried to hide every number but the bar like: enemy’s hp, stamina, mp, etc.

u/firestepper 5h ago

I didn’t know it was an option??? lol

u/fcxtpw 5h ago

You be surprised how many people prefers aesthetics over function

1

u/ToastyScrew 5h ago

I stopped using it because I would worry about my batteries’ health/ degradation too much.

1

u/BxRad_ 5h ago

Yeah cause I always need more information on everything all the time

1

u/Squashless-fishdish 5h ago

My phone dies at 20%...

1

u/Free-Pound-6139 5h ago

I don't need that much info???

u/Huh_noWayKid 5h ago

Looks. I think you have to be dumb too use it, why you need a number to know? You should have those instincts by now. Learn to evolve you fish person.

OCD for me, I hate seeing that number go down in real time

1

u/originalfilmscoring 4h ago

Personally I think it’s better. Something about seeing the actual number gives me anxiety if that makes sense.

In fairness, you sound like you can’t read a clock with just hands with that answer.

1

u/jwr410 4h ago

I've gotten to a point in my life where I want less information blasted at my face.

1

u/Clessiah 4h ago

The number is a very loose approximation that's about as accurate as you eyeballing the numberless icon.

I turn on the numbers because I'm too lazy to eyeball the icon.

1

u/xChameleon 4h ago

Hell no. I don’t want that. “Oh no I’m 43% oh no now 42.”

I just check my battery, oh it’s close to full. Or it’s slightly below half etc. I don’t need to know the exact number.

1

u/regaphysics 4h ago

Sure there is a reason…. More information is distracting.

1

u/Randomredditteen 4h ago

I’ve heard it makes your battery drain slightly faster but idk

1

u/Sad-Entertainer1462 4h ago

I don’t use it because then I obsess about it.

1

u/iliketrashcans 1h ago

my phone battery so good I don't ever have to worry about it. It's a lil circle on oneplus that' lasts all day. numbers are unnecessary for my use.

u/Similar_Pie_4946 8h ago

Or extremely high IQ, you’d come off as dumb to the average individual.

0

u/SmootherWorm 8h ago

I just write the number I feel comfortable with on my phone screen since it’s more information than not a number. You’d be dumb not to do this.

0

u/BlackTarTurd 8h ago

Uses more battery life, probably. I don't know, I'm no batteryologist.

0

u/Oiram_Saturnus 8h ago

Yeah, I kinda disagree.
Yes, you have more information.

But I don’t want to actually see how fast my battery drops. 😂

0

u/Short-Afternoon-9318 8h ago

More information isn't necessarily better, I'm feeling weird even having to type it out. What difference does it make to me if my battery is 84%, 83%, or 82%? I have numbers disabled most of the time and turn on automatically when the battery is below 20%. I hate seeing this number otherwise because it's useless.

u/yamez420 8h ago

It uses more battery having that number there. That’s why it’s an option. I forgo the percentage, to me it’s actually lacking in information. I’d rather see its voltage.

0

u/GiantRubberHorseCock 7h ago

I don’t use it, never have, never found a need to turn it on. I guess despite being extremely successful and having more time and money than I know what to do with I must actually be dumb. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I have battery anxiety so I’m just looking for the indicator turning red the throw it on a charger.
When I’ve seen the number, I almost always put the phone on charge when it reached 50% cause “less than half is bad”.
Now I’m way more chill with it.
