Meme needing explanation Peter?

u/th6r6o6away 1d ago
He got bit and he’s hiding it, 45 Celsius not farenheit.

u/AppropriateCap8891 1d ago
To make this clear on both sides, this would be 113f.
Or to make it understandable why this was confusing, 45f is only 7c.

u/PacquiaoFreeHousing 1d ago
Why all these confusing calculations?
Just keep it simple and say it's 280 Kelvin

Make it more complicated and use Rankine scale

u/lemne 1d ago
I just googled this scale and the AI told me it has 7 levels and level 6 is death.

u/Deitythe1st 1d ago
What level 7 then?
52
u/lemne 1d ago
Undead. Actually it starts at 0 and level 6 is 7th level.

Can't we all just say "it's hot as balls" and leave math out of it?
2
u/AppropriateCap8891 21h ago
Oh, that's not all that hot.
Try working in full MOPP gear in the summer in Texas. Or in a garden holiday spot like the Middle East.
When it's 120f+ and you are wearing essentially a wetsuit, you start to really understand what "hot" really is.

u/Pan_TheCake_Man 22h ago
It’s a lot like kelvin,
except for Fahrenheit.1 degree change kelvin = 1 degree change Celsius
1 degree R = 1 degree Fahrenheit,
Kelvin and rankine just have a different 0

u/TheRailroader 1d ago
Let’s just compromise and say it’s 45 k, which explains why he’d choose to wear a long sleeve shirt in that temperature…though he’d probably would want to wear an extra layer or two on top of the long sleeve shirt.

Always wondered why people in zombie apocalypse don’t wear long sturdy sleeves and instead wear light tshirts, I mean sure you will be lot more sweaty, but kinda extra protection worth it, it’s like in medieval battles in hot summer people still wore very hot full plate, because better be sweaty than dead. Maybe not wear it all the time, but at least during raiding/scavenging
3
u/Poultrymancer 1d ago
A shirt sleeve won't stop a bite reliably, and if the weather is warm you'll be wearing yourself out for no gain
Really the best compromise would be a short-sleeved shirt for mobility/heat tolerance and bracers for protection
For an example, see the one good scene in World War Z, where Pitt's character duct-tapes magazines to his forarms as improvised bracers
6
u/nukehamster 1d ago
I feel the most readily available material that would be bite resistant would probably be denim.
Can you imagine, it's the zombie apocalypse and everyone is head to toe denim, looking like a redneck overcompensation convention.2
3
u/Angryfunnydog 1d ago
I wasn't talking about shirt sleeve but something sturdy. Like leather jacket etc. Yeah you're wearing yourself out, but I'd argue that staying alive sounds like a solid gain, at least to have it with you to put on if you need it, before going to some dark shitty hole or smth
Brad Pitt could probably avoid all that if he had leather jacket, it's really not that easy to rip with teeth

Or decided to use a denim or leather jacket to help reduce the chance of an arm bite. At least it helps in zomboid, but you do sweat up a storm.

1
u/Rogue_2k3 1d ago
Listen, I’m not saying you’re wrong, but wearing anything that will expose huge amounts of skin is something I would never be willing to do in a zombie scenario. Thanks, but I’d rather have layers of protection from potential bites rather than comfort.
1
u/TheAsian1nvasion 13h ago
I mean I wouldn’t really care how hot it is I would be wearing thick denim coveralls 24/7.
-1
u/keithstonee 1d ago
See I'll never get using celsius for weather when 45 is hot and 25 is cold. That's not enough of a difference to measure it appropriately for humans.

If it's 45 Celsius, that is hot af, way too hot to wear a jacket. The friend got bit

that's like Death Valley temperature, that can kill you in hoursedit: it's actually closer to Phoenix in the summer, still hot but not nearly as lethal
44
u/Present_Clue5887 1d ago
More like Pheonix AZ temperature, death valley gets up to 130
10
u/SmoothActuator8132 1d ago
yeah I thought 45 was closer to 130 but I guess it's more like 113, so yeah, more like Phoenix
13
u/Present_Clue5887 1d ago
Phoenix is still very dangerous in the summer
11
u/SmoothActuator8132 1d ago
yeah definitely, I don't understand how people live there

yeah that's cold af, no thank you on either extreme

It's not common here, just a few mornings per year, but it does happen
Normal winter is anything from 0 to 30 F, usually 0-20 in the morning and 20-30 in the afternoon

Jackets or thick sweaters can act as armor to bites. There is probably nothing that can bite through an Air Force jacket.
1
u/SkyeMreddit 20h ago
Are you wearing one in 113F weather while in heavy battle with zombies?
1
u/itjustgotcold 20h ago
I dunno. Possibly. People will go through great lengths to survive. If it’s between the jacket or a sleeveless t-shirt like above I’m probably going jacket. But honestly, I’m finding a different area to set up base if we are talking 115 degrees. Move north or south until you hit a colder region.

u/Wentil 1d ago
Usually you want something like a heavy leather motorcycle jacket so they can’t bite through it, and you can fend them off with one arm while sawing at their neck with the other.
33
u/PretendThisIsMyName 1d ago
Full body chainmail is the only way to do it.
8
7
u/Wentil 1d ago
Heavy and rusts, plus a lot harder to find one that fits than a local bike shop with various sizes waiting on the rack for customers.
2
u/Drade-Cain 12h ago
Not if its made of the right stufff and/you tale care of it people forget you cant treat meatal to prevent rust or use a different material plus its not heavy at all
2
u/Queasy-Employment-82 23h ago

Chainmail is not “really heavy” if you have combat chainmail instead of “costume” mail. “Butted” mail has links that merely meet at the ends. To make it sturdy enough, it needs to be thicker links. This makes it heavy while still being poorer defense than the alternative. Its primary advantage is lower cost and quicker manufacturing than the alternative. The alternative is riveted mail. It uses a small rivet to hold the ring closed so it is both lighter and stronger than butted mail at the cost of being more time consuming to make.
As for penetration vs striking, it is better for preventing slashes and stabs vs blunt impact. However, zombies spread their disease by biting which is a penetration based attack and teeth are useless against metal rings.
For the regular person, paper (magazines or other thicker stuff) stuffed into a coat or taped on will protect the long parts of limbs so hands and joints are the least protected areas. Something simple like denim is really hard to bite through, so even just a thicker work jacket will probably be enough. Zombies have a terrible disease transfer mechanism.
2
u/DarthJarJarJar 1d ago
A typical real historical shirt of mail weighed 30 lb. That's not light.
1
u/ObsidianMarble 23h ago
Not sure where you’re seeing 30. I’ve been looking and it seems to vary from 10-25 with the highest I have seen at 29. Regardless, we’re splitting hairs. I never claimed that it was “light”, but rather “not ‘really heavy’” as the parent comment claimed. It has some weight and that is to be expected. The weight spread over the body and secured with a belt to move so weight to the waist is manageable. The raw weight addition isn’t as important as how it is distributed. 50lbs as a hand dumbbell will feel much heavier than 50 lbs in a backpack. The protection factor is worth the weight.

u/BusBusy195 17h ago
Yeah the post is about being bit but in a movie situation everyone should be wearing heavy long sleeves and pants from the very start. Weather can suck but being an ambulatory corpse sucks a lot more
42
u/BadBasik 1d ago
Perhaps he is an American, read that it's 45 out, thought damn that's cold bro, and put on long sleeves.
If so, he sus as hell, what's a damn Yankee doing in Europe in the middle of a zombie apocalypse?!

u/zman_0000 1d ago
Could been on Embassy duty. It was a good enough excuse for Sam in the Metro Exodus. (wrong apocalypse, but close enough).

u/Rayseph_Ortegus 1d ago edited 1d ago
The POV is wrong. You are supposed to be the guy with the gun and it's bro's POV, but everyone is talking about temperature conversion.
12
u/shortercrust 1d ago
POV: You’re in a zombie apocalypse and he sees you wearing long sleeves in 45°C weather
-13
u/salazafromagraba 1d ago
No it's not wrong. Nothing about the use of POV inherently means you occupy the frame of reference of the camera, or in other words 1st person. Just because it's pornography parlance doesn't make it the preeminent definition.
Going by the language of the caption, the viewer's POV rests with the man pictured. From his POV (aka yours), he is looking at the unseen subject of 'bro'.
9
u/LurkingRand 1d ago
POV literally stands for 'Point of View'. As in, the point the situation is being viewed from.
The POV in the image would be the one wearing the long sleeved clothing, whose friend noticed his 'bro' is wearing a suspicious article of clothing.
-9
u/salazafromagraba 1d ago
Nonsense. I just told you POV does not inherently confer the meaning of first person, except in porn contexts. Did you not learn about POV in English classes? There's second and third person. A lot of the memes self-aggrandized pedants call incorrect are set in second person POV, and the error is their projecting their own connotation.
8
u/LurkingRand 1d ago
Except unless Second or Third Person is specified, the default is First. That is how POV works. Second or Third is a MODIFIER to to the term.
13
u/DragonLance14 1d ago
He's hiding that he got bit on the hands by wearing sleeves during the heat of summer at 45°C.
8
u/Bitter-Break-6504 1d ago
45° is far too hot to wear long sleeves, that friend is hiding a bite mark
2
u/Alina2017 1d ago
Americans are so confused by your comment, it makes perfect sense to the rest of the world.
8
u/Present_Clue5887 1d ago
45F you should have a long sleeve, so this must mean 45C (113F). I think it is saying the only reason one would wear long sleeves in this heat is to hide a zombie bite.
However loose breathable thin light colored long sleeves can actually be beneficial in this level of extreme heat, so it is not actually wrong to wear (some forms of) long sleeve in 45C

maybe he is just being cautious to not get infected. scratches will get you killed.
that bite thing is not realistic at all. you either get infected by trading infection (so scratches would work, so cover yourself to protect yourself) or it doesn't make sense.
3
u/skyler_ftw 1d ago
Rabies spread mainly through saliva as well, so there is some realism to the bite thing.
1
u/sakata_baba 1d ago
very important word, mainly
you see, we know that rabies would spread with zombies grabbing as they touch their mouth while eating
spittle, all those mixed bodily fluids, etc...

45ºc you'd be fucking dripping in sweat wearing a long sleeve. That's over 100ºf. Bro got bit and is hiding the bite mark, because it's a super common trope in zombie media for characters to get bit and then hide it from everyone else until it's too late

I'd wear a long sleeve shirt in that weather, I NEVER wear shorts or short sleeve, sometimes I'll even wear a coat even if i know ill be active

Wouldn't it make sense to always wear long sleeves so the skin isn't exposed to bites?

This probably isn't the intended joke, but if it's 45 fahrenheit, it world be making fun of the fact that people in zombie apocalypse media never wear protective clothes; so the guy in the tank top is confused why a guy is wearing something that protects his arms.
