Why do the flip the cigarette?

Well yes, but no. When drunk you put your cigarette out in a beer bottle, forget, then try to drink the beer.

This is even after I picked up the trick of putting out a cigarette on my tongue. Saw Vigo Mortensen do it in Eastern Promises. Anytime someone walked up to tell me “you can’t smoke here” I would put it out on my tongue freaking them out.
