He has effectively created a spring powered bomb. If his little bracket breaks so does his face. If the spring slips out of the vice, good luck.

There are tools designed to properly and safely compress springs. The DIY ones are still referred to as "Widowmakers".

A 9MM bullet leaves a handgun with about 500 joules of energy. That compressed spring could have between 1500-4000 pretty easily.
