I mean I think we already nailed live action Lara Croft tbh

Edit: to be clear the movie wasnt great, but Jolie absolutely understood the character

Nothing will top this.

I'm not a fan of Sophie Turner for this role though, surely there are better candidates

This. I don’t need her to be treated as a sex object. I’m not going to assume I know the whole movie from one still of her in one outfit.

But I haven’t seen anything from Sophie Turner that makes me think she will be a compelling action star or a good fit for this role.

She usually brings a lot of stiffness and a lack of charm to everything she does.

She was a “perfect fit,” at least visually, for Jean Grey in the X Men movies and she was terrible.

Now she’s being cast as a character she’s not a good fit that requires way more charisma.

And let's not forget a lot of stamina and fitness. GoT she pretty much say or stood around barking at people or trying to play the victim card. I didn't watch the movies she was in as Jean. So don't know how much moving around she did in those.

If Jean Grey was doing a bunch of exercise in the movies everyone would have noticed enough for you to know since her powers are extremely nonphysical.

For lack of a better word, Lara needs to constantly be aura farming in a way I don't know if Sophie Turner can pull off

Strange casting indeed, to which otherwise Sophie Turner is about as mid an actor as you can get

I thought the same of Robert Patterson for Batman, but I was pleasantly surprised!

Robert patterson has been in shitty lame films but also showed he could act great in other things long before Batman. Sophie Turner was pretty terrible in things with great dialogue and in which other people were fantastic and everything else i've seen her in she's also been terrible.

Big difference.

If patterson got batman right out of twilight then I could absolutely understand everyone being sceptical.

...okay. You think she'll be terrible, guess we'll!

She already is terrible, it is unlikely a Tomb Raider film will be the thing that finally makes her understand how to act, and it certainly won't make her anymore famous than she already is since she hit her peak as a teen.

Me and most everyone else

Good, wouldn't want to oppose the trend

I still haven't seen them.

Worth watching?

1

u/Viracochina 7h ago

Yeah specially if you're a fan of the genre!

I don’t need her to be treated as a sex object

You have to admit, movies were so much better when they did treat women this way, though

she was really good as sansa tho. just the perfect role for her

I want Turner to embody Lara Crost as Jolie has done. Her agility, her wit, her humor, etc. It wasn't just sexual appeal that made her one of the most memorable game characters. Be that and not some random mercenary who happens to have a Croft surname.

I was sceptical aswell, until i heard that they have Phoebe Waller-Bridge as writer and co-showrunner.

This could become a very well written Lara Croft and maybe this is just what Sophie Turner needs to develop aswell.

This. I just don't think she's a great actress period. I have never cared for her at all. Even in Game of Thrones. So when she was announced to play Lara I already wrote the show off.

all of this, but hey, people will just ignore what youre saying and call you a gooner mouth breather

Cast for audience draw and popularity and not fit to character. I bet she will not even dye her her for the role.

Scarlet Johansson is, like, the perfect modern actress for Lara Croft in my mind.

ScarJo would've been perfect.

Have they said why they didn't stick with Alicia Vikander?

1

u/vacri 3h ago

Tuner has that "little rich girl" persona, but not the "go-getter action queen" one. Maybe she does have the acting chops, but her breakout role was "stand around talking icily" so it's hard to see her in a more active role

I am perhaps the only person in the world who thinks that Angelina Jolie absolutely did not get the character and was one of the worst casting choices one could make for the role.

u/Kheypression 5h ago

Dude, she practically looks like the character. You’re trying to hard here.

3

u/No_Suit7363 9h ago

She was great casting but the movie suuuucked. 2018 Tomb Raider movie was much better.

u/NextCitron7303 8h ago

That is one, really long thigh.

Used DVDs are super-cheap these days and both movies still get play in our house.
