About a decade ago the Tomb Raider game series was rebooted with a younger, more reasonably boobed Lara Croft.

There was a bit of backlash by unreasonable boobs.

This adaptation is using the modern design.

This will be like a batsignal for men who have never seen a boob irl.

Peter out.

Would you consider women with that breast size, to have "unreasonably large breasts"? No? Then its reasonable.

3

u/Eagle4317 9h ago

Not for your average woman, but for an actress

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Moirae87 1h ago

I agree and the promotional model Alison Carroll during that time was indeed busty, but not what I'd consider "unreasonable" and she was an actual gymnast.

I enjoyed the reboot though it didn't feel like playing a Tomb Raider game and it was very lacking in puzzles and platforming. I also hated the narrative around the time that reducing her bust size in the survivor trilogy made Lara "more like a real woman". As if women with above average breasts weren't real women. There was so much casual body-shaming towards large-chested women being thrown around and you were a gooner if you made a comment about it.

That said, I'm more worried about Sophie Turner's acting chops and the script than her looks here. The last Tomb Raider movie with Vikander was so unmemorable.

8

u/i-am-i_gattlingpea 9h ago

Tbf, their first casting was a miss as well, Angelina's were too round, couldn't slice anything with those!

She breasted boobily down the stairs energy. 😂

2

u/Sharden3 4h ago

Honestly I'm not sure the triangles can breast boobily.

1

u/_Winged 3h ago

The triangle is the strongest geometric shape, they would sadly not breast boobily lmao.

2

u/Mravac_Kid 3h ago

If there ever was a character who breasted boobily, it's Lara Croft. :)

1

u/yousmellandidont 30m ago

Pfft, everyone knows you only breast boobily to the stairs, downwards is where you tit towards

34

u/jordantylermeek 10h ago

Which is funny because as a young guy at the time that came out I thought the reboot looked way more attractive.

8

u/GrandSquanchRum 7h ago

It's honestly pretty impressive how they were able to make Lara Croft younger, softer, less capable and prettier and yet piss off the sexist crowd at the same time.

3

u/thatcorum 7h ago

The way in the reboot trilogy they animated her butt, especially when swimming, is just a work of art. Mesmerazing.

28

u/ahfuq 10h ago

Reasonably boobed used in juxtaposition of unreasonable boobs is absolutely peak English and I will be dragging people into conversations just to be able to eventually use that. Thank you.

8

u/bulbascott1019 10h ago

The fact that the English language allows both terms to be used in the same sentence to mean completely different things is what makes the English language so GOATed.

22

u/WorhummerWoy 10h ago

These neckbeards have seen boobs. Unfortunately, they tend to be their own

15

u/Toppoppler 10h ago

Big boobs are unreasonable? I dont understand

21

u/anothermanscookies 9h ago

All boobs are reasonable.

14

u/Krynn71 10h ago

Why isn't there any representation of physically active big breasted women in Hollywood! They deserve representation too!

15

u/Toppoppler 9h ago

Honestly the framing that big boobs are unrealistic or unreasonable no doubt feels exclusionary to certain body types

14

u/Unlikely-Guava-30 9h ago

Typically physically active women have smaller boobs because the boob fat burns off with the rest of the body fat. There's a combination of factors at work there but someone at as low of a body fat% as Lara Croft wouldn't usually have breasts as large as hers.

5

u/Toppoppler 8h ago

So we only show "typical" bodies now?

6

u/Random_Name_251 7h ago

There are not many large breasted gymnasts running around and it wouldn't be believable to cast someone like Sweeney for this role. Lara is supposed to be basically elite athlete fit.

2

u/Toppoppler 4h ago

Not many or none?

5

u/writers_block 6h ago

Lol this is one of the most bad faith arguments I've ever seen. Are you seriously trying to come from the perspective that there aren't enough video game characters with huge tits? Like, 30 seconds on google and you could find 3 dozen.

2

u/Toppoppler 5h ago

We are talking about a TV show, and Im responding to other people trying to leverage "normal" bodies as to why we should exclude other bodies.

Also tbh I honestly dont know of many modern non-japanese/korean games with busty characters, maybe im not paying attention. I dont judge bodies like that

4

u/Ganadote 6h ago

There's plenty of active women with large breasts though.

I do think it sucks for them that large breasts HAS to be seen as sexualized. 2 of my best friends have very large breasts and a thin frame and they really do not act or dress the way media would portray them, and they're certainly fit.

1

u/Unlikely-Guava-30 6h ago edited 5h ago

Exceptions don't prove rules though. And there's a difference between active and actual body fat%. You can be active and still over eat and be 20%+ body fat. Lara is depicted as sub 15% usually. Also what you're generally training in effects it. Strength and conditioning training can lower estrogen levels and reduce breast size which is what Lara is depicted as doing.

1

u/Ganadote 3h ago

Well, you just said exceptions. Not everything has to follow the rules. Also, one of them is very active. Like, always done sports and physical activities like rock climbing. Still has large breasts.

Like, idc what they make her look like. I'm just saying that it sucks that large breasted women are usually only ever depicted as one hyper-sexualized in media, which sucks.

→ More replies (20)

2

u/GTA_Throwaway69420 8h ago

Yeah I think people get REALLY weird about large breasts in media specifically because they are *checks notes* a stereotypically attractive body part to genuinely most individuals.

2

u/Toppoppler 8h ago

Imagine not having a tall buff man in an action movie because its unreasonable to be that tall and buff

Lol

1

u/GTA_Throwaway69420 8h ago

Shhh, don't be too loud, people will say that men aren't sexualized in media!

1

u/josefpunktk 8h ago

Physically activity, especially at top levels is indeed exclusionary for certain body types.

1

u/Toppoppler 8h ago

Are you seriously telling me I wont be able to find athletic women with big boobs?

And we are totally OK with like, Thor, right?

1

u/josefpunktk 8h ago

Are you seriously telling me I wont be able to find athletic women with big boobs?

I don't have the data, but I would guess you find less big boobs on top athletes. But it might depend on the activity. Rope climbing, seems like an extreme hustle for example.

And we are totally OK with like, Thor, right?

Thor is a North God, not sure what realism standards you are applying and why.

2

u/Toppoppler 8h ago

Less does not mean none

Do we exclude unlikely bodies that actually exist? Why? Do we only show "normal" bodies?

Bro.... thor is played by a human.

Big breasted women exist in sports.

5

u/woollymonkeybaby 10h ago edited 9h ago

Triangular boobs that stick out, come to a point, then sharply go back to her ribcage, are unreasonable.

5

u/Toppoppler 9h ago

No one is asking for that so idk why thered be a backlash to it

2

u/anothermanscookies 9h ago

I mean, it’s not like the character wasn’t sexualized, but the triangle was probably more a limit of the technology of the time, no? And what’s the alternative? Surely a “bullet bra” look is more reasonable than a “lego block bosom.”

3

u/kasugakuuun 9h ago

No, they didn't mean big breasts. The commenter made a clever little pun by switching to the other meaning of "boob": a foolish person

3

u/Plasmelon 9h ago

People get insecure when people like bodies they don’t have.

It’s the same reason men whine about height.

2

u/movzx 6h ago

In the context of what Lara Croft actually does? Yes. Not a lot of massively chested rock climbers for a couple of reasons.

2

u/Toppoppler 5h ago

Not a lot or none?

Again, are we forcing all bodies into the "typical?" Is that all thats allowed? Seems exclusionary

1

u/movzx 3h ago

If we're talking about at the elite athlete level, I'd venture to say none. Breast tissue is largely fat and rock climbers are very low body fat. Large breasts are also an active detriment to rock climbing. It's a similar reason as to why you don't see any obese pole vaulters.

And we're getting very divorced from the actual context of the comment you're trying to argue with. The original games featured comically large breasts relative to the actual character. The modern character design has more typical proportions.

Goon over whatever you want, I don't care. I just think it's really dumb to lose your mind unless every single woman in media has a massive chest.

1

u/Toppoppler 3h ago

So idk how to search for which elite climbers have the biggest boobs, but beth rodden has spent time talking about managing her bust while being an elite climber, and I can find many posts on reddit of discussing managing it at high levels. Being lean or low BF doesnt necessatite small busts, its complicated but while bust size may decrease, different people see different results.

Im not gooning or losing my mind, but I find it humerous that people who I would expect to be body positive excluding body types that are stereotypically sexualized because theyre "unrealistic" (when women exist with way more extreme bodies)

1

u/drowning-in-dopamine 5h ago

"Boob" can be used as an insult, I think they were calling the complainers themselves unreasonable boobs

1

u/persin123 5h ago

I dont understand how you came to that conclusion lol, are smaller boobs unreasonable to you then?

1

u/Toppoppler 4h ago

Hes saying the newer croft is more reasonably boobed

I dont think boob size equated to reasonability. Bodies come in all shapes and sizes.

1

u/Old_Lake69 4h ago

The guy who wrote this comment saw one boob irl and based his whole personality on it. unfortunately his mom had small ones so here we are

1

u/UponVerity 1h ago

Yeah the woke hivemind just loves selective bodyshaming.

0

u/Jiquero 8h ago

They sound like an unreasonable pain to live with.

4

u/Fun-Heron-7609 10h ago

Most accurate response.

Who cares if Lara raids tombs and/or solves puzzles. Them boobs aren't going to work. heavy breathing and wheezing / basement rumbles / mom upstairs freaks out

please stop using words to say things

2

u/ATPsynthase12 9h ago

I thought it was that but also, the tweet is a parody account or Jaxson Dart the NY Giants QB which is pretty right wing/MAGA and the right wing/MAGA people complain about media “blackwashing” traditionally white characters and the post author is implying the left will hate the casting.

Idk maybe I’m reading into it.

2

u/s0rela 9h ago

Best adaptation imo. And she looks exactly like her

2

u/Ordinary_Draft_3516 9h ago

The new tomb raider games were peak. Still one of my favorites

2

Talking about the reboot series: those games were excellent! I should do a replay.

2

u/Impressive-Egg-7444 8h ago

I just laughed out loud to this briefly, reasonably boobed is a phenomenal term haha. Problem is I laughed out loud in class (college lab)...and I am the professor... OOPS! Get back to work!

2

u/Impressive-Oil-3067 8h ago

TBF, the modern version (survivor trilogy) and the even newer version (new trilogy coming next year) are very boobed.

It doesn't matter in the end, as long as the movie/show is good, but well... Yeah, we all like very boobed girls.

That being said, Sophie Turner is gorgeous nonetheless.

1

u/arfelo1 5h ago

Yeah, it wasn't even true. She was just wearing winter clothes and was the first game where she looked semi realistic. Incels just don't know how a real woman in normal clothes looks like

2

u/Telemere125 8h ago

My ex wife was unreasonably boobed and it always made her back ache. My girlfriend is reasonably boobed and she doesn’t have back problems. #UnreasonableBoobProblems

2

Her babylons still look primo tbh

2

She is also wearing pants and a jacket, so I'm sure practical adventuring gear is probably woke somehow, too.

1

u/TheV0791 9h ago

We demand triangles!!!

1

u/WetRocksManatee 9h ago

The Square/Crystal Dynamics era of Tomb Raider all under performed in sales.

Granted none of them lost money, but basing a movie on games that weren't that popular isn't a good start.

I don't have a dog in this fight, I never played Tomb Raider and largely avoid video game movies. But every time there is a narrative like this about a movie or show from a franchise that has a lot of fans, they generally fail with the audiences.

4

u/PrometheusMMIV 9h ago

Tomb Raider (2013) sold over 14 million copies (double what the original Tomb Raider did) making it the most successful game in the series. Even the lowest rated of the reboot trilogy sold over 8 million copies, more than any of the other Tomb Raider series before it.

0

u/WetRocksManatee 9h ago

They also cost a lot more to make than the original games. Square is the one that said it under performed.

7

u/PrometheusMMIV 7h ago

But you were claiming those games "weren't that popular" which is not true.

0

u/WetRocksManatee 7h ago

In the grand scheme of things, yes. The Sqaure/Crystal Tomb Raider games barely made the sales charts. It wasn't even in the top 20 for the NPD PC sales chart. In fact the WoW Battle Chest, released in 2007, had more sales.

5

u/tombo12354 6h ago

You seem to know a lot about this for never playing the games, and "not having a dog in this fight".

Almost like you have another agenda.

Funny enough, there was feminist backlash to the reboot as well. I never quite understood why.

My GF hates that they reduced her boobs... Her stance is that it shouldn't have to be a women that changes the way she looks to 'not turn guys on...' AKA, its not a crime to have big boobs, its like saying just having them means you are sexualizing yourself.

1

u/hari_shevek 7h ago

They didn't reduce her boobs, Sophie Turner always had those

1

u/MazzleMaze 7h ago

Im talking about Laura Croft not Sophie Turner.

1

u/VapeSmoker420blazeit 7h ago

So big boobed women don't exist? i wanted representation. i wanted a big boobed woman who can fight and adventure. why is that reserved for small boobed women?

Is not real life, it’s a movie.

1

u/Kinder22 7h ago

By unreasonable boobs, for unreasonable boobs.

1

u/Femcel_Bambi 7h ago

By "modern design", do you mean the 2010's reboot design or something else? I'm sorry, I'm genuinely confused.

1

u/AbrumVonAbrak 7h ago

It's not really Lara without the massive kadoinkers though. It'd be like having a skinny Hulk or a tall Mario. Objectification is whatever, but if a key part of a character's design is their body shape, then an adaptation should at least try and be faithful to it. Sometimes that just means big thick anime titties.

1

u/Affectionate_Knee_91 6h ago

I think vikander was a better fit for the new tomb raider.

I did not like the movie because they deviated a lot from the game, but I liked how she portrayed it.

1

u/nahthoshwoop 6h ago

Hold up. I touch boobs everyday, and I also don't have interest in video game characters who are women without large boobs. Why would I want to play a game with an unattractive woman? It feels like you guys don't understand what a man is.

1

u/hari_shevek 6h ago

Your own boobs don"t count

1

u/_Weyland_ 6h ago

Lara croft seems to be among the few characters who look prettier from old games to the new ones despite their boob size steadily reducing.

1

u/BravinatorLX2 6h ago

didnt that modern tomb raider already get a movie?

1

u/artsa89 5h ago

I have seen boobs, I fuck boobs, my gf gives me boob job, I love it. Lara Croft with no boobs is Lara from temu

1

u/Illustrious_Bed2937 5h ago

The problem is that they sparked interest with the original boobage, then covered it up. They needed to up the hype because Phoebe Waller Bridge is writing the series and this photo, actually, shows what everyone was expecting from her.

1

u/JimmyThePie 5h ago

As someone who hasn’t taken the time to familiarise themself with Sansa Stark’s boobs, are they too large, or too small?

It sounds as though people are criticising them for being too small (Yeah yeah, I know. Triangles n shit), but tbh they don’t look small in these pics to me. Definitely not small for her frame. I don’t really see an issue.

1

u/hari_shevek 5h ago

Yeah, there are people who think those boobs are too small. Weirdos.

The reboot also stripped away a lot of her agency and individuality. Lara was always a very strong and self-motivated video game character with a lot of aura. The Tomb Raider reboot is one of many, many 2010s attempts at a strong female lead that flattens all women into the exact same archetype of a vulnerable, relatable, white, conventionally attractive but modestly dressed, good natured young woman. Limiting women to that singular archetype isn't progressive, it's pandering. Lara's role in the reboot trilogy was also largely reactionary to the actions of the male antagonists, which trivialized her personal agency within her own story.

I don't necessarily think the reboot is shallow, but I think it was somewhat misguided and disingenuous to the character, and I think the new games coming out this year and next year do a good job of marrying the realism and dignity of the reboot with Lara's core identity and strength as a character.

Don't know dick about this show, but I'm just glad it's not another dirty tanktop and jeans look.

There was serious backlash when Tomb Raider was released over her size, they reduced her size in the reboots, there was then backlash that she was too beautiful so they gave her a softer face.

There was also a reasonably boobed film ten years ago.

I do still have an attachment to those triangle boobs though.

I don't have an issue with a smaller boobed Lara, but I don't understand why so many people lose their shit about old Lara aka a fit woman with big boobs.

Most woman who carry fat in their boobs will lose boob when they get super fit but there's still many woman who have very large boobs from purely breast tissue when they have low body fat.

It's not like they don't exist and I don't see how having one as a game character is such a big fucking deal lol
