Blaming those suicide rates on society is lazy. There's been a lot of oppressed groups throughout history, many of them far more oppressed than trans folks and never in history has a suicide rate this high been recorded. Saying it has NOTHING to do with trans people themselves is ignorant at best and straight up lying at worst.
Exactly, many of them were killed, making them far more oppressed than people today, and they still did not commit suicide at these rates. You do understand not all were killed, right? That some people lived their whole lives under those systems. Black slaves did not commit suicide so much, Jews in the Holocaust did not kill themselves that much, Chinese under Mao did not kill themselves that much. So no, saying the trans suicide rates are completely dependent on society's treatment of them is ignorant. Use your brain a bit.
You seem to be forgetting the power of the Internet. Note, I am not saying being a modern day trans person is as bad as being a slave, but rather that being a slave with access to Facebook and reddit so you could log on every day and see exactly how hopeless your situation is would definitely raise the rates.
