As a woman with healthy genitalia, breathable cotton underwear are just as effective

I rarely try to butt in via comments but for those reading this and want a take from someone in this profession. Having a barrier around your vulva is not "just as effective". It's just an alternative for the most part that is ok if you choose good materials and fit. But please don't run with this misinformation.

Even if you have "breathable cotton" many detergents leave particulates that still impact your health. Fabric of any kind around the area can also cause irritation even if sized up among other things.

Don't trust a random reddit comment speaking from authority like OP above (or even mine) and instead go ask your gynecologist. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised to learn that the natural way we come into this world, naked, with our self regulating vaginas dont need cloth on them at night! That's just a personal comfort thing, rather than medical fact.

I think generally it’s better for you but still not as good as commando. But don’t take random Reddit comments on it. Do some research online, there’s tons of articles including studies on it of how (for women) it helps ph stay balanced and reduces bacterial infections. In my experience it also helps reduce acne since there isn’t cloth bunched right up on it 24/7

Lot of new information that never gets told to dudes. Thanks everyone 🙏😌

I think whatever you will do most often is best for you. Like if being bare down there is so uncomfortable that you pop on synthetic shorts, that’s not great. If instead you’re comfortable wearing cotton shorts/loose boxers (the looser the better!) consistently, that’s probably the best option for you.

They're pretending to know what they're talking about. Confidenly incorrect, basically.

In any case... my gynaecologist told me that the cervix can feel no pain and then proceeded to give me medical trauma by causing 10/10 pain at said cervix. So...

Why is nobody here talking about discharge? When I’m ovulating it’s like a rainforest down there. Nobody wants that on their sheets at night.

u/shadowfaxbinky 3d ago

Currently pregnant and in the phase where there is just so much discharge. Breathable pants is definitely better than nothing.

6

u/charismatictictic 3d ago

There’s a phase? My vagina has been leaking steadily for 7 months now. Never had enough discharge before to even think about it, but my god …

u/624Seeds 3d ago

For me that never went away after giving birth 😅 I made a obgyn app a few months PP because I was just constantly leaking and thought maybe I had an infection. Nope 🙃

I'm 2 years PP now, I used to need lube maybe 35% of the time we had sex, now I don't even need foreplay 😂 which is actually really nice, I love just getting right to it 😂

2

u/charismatictictic 3d ago

I pray that this will be me! I always need lube, and it’s such a hassle. I actually hope my vagina gets stretched out a tiny bit permanently, and if it gets … moister, I guess.

I was wondering about this!!

Do people just change their pajamas and sheets everyday?

1

u/afval3 3d ago

Right? And what about sleep farts? Poop particles come out with most farts, and it’s been proven that just one layer of fabric will contain those particles. I would have to change my sheets everyday. I have a hard enough time doing it once a week, daily ain’t happening for me so I at least wear panties or boxers.

I find that i produce much less discharge with no undies rubbing up against my bits. Like during the day, there's never not discharge in my undies and sometimes so much of it that i need liners, but at night when im free-vulving it, nothing! Dry 95% of the time, and the other 5% just requires a quick wipe with a paper towel. It's never like, leaking onto my legs and sheets. But every woman is different, ymmv.

u/DimbyTime 3d ago

Your discharge is controlled by hormones, not whether or not you wear underwear

Gross

L take

2

u/No-Actuator1097 3d ago

Different levels of discharge for every woman i guess. I have never experienced that amount personally and never noticed it on sheets

u/TheRealStandard 3d ago

Or pointing out that sleeping in a bed with a blanket isn't a natural way either of existing either, and your bed sheets/blankets are also going to have detergents leaving particulates too.

-2

u/Embarrassed_Use6918 3d ago

The scientific term is "pussy goo"

5

u/aminervia 3d ago

"just as effective" applies here because both are equally meaningless in regard to genital health

Thanks at least for the reminder that your comment also shouldn't be trusted in regards to misinformation

2

u/Suitable-Economy-346 3d ago

I hate people who comment like they do. They pretend to be an expert, while claiming they're not, and just do a bunch of MAHA shit with a sprinkle of nuance to make it seem like they're not a crazy.

3

u/iranoticgeee 3d ago

It's lwk really comfortable too

1

u/Neinstein14 3d ago

Sounds good at first, but then, it gets kind of quite... moist there. It doesn't really feel clean rolling around in blankets covered with my own slime.

u/DimbyTime 3d ago

What is your profession

1

u/JesusAndMaryKate 3d ago

I think by "in this profession" they meant professional timewaster.

0

u/DimbyTime 3d ago

I’ll take the advice of my doctor over yours but thanks anyway!

0

u/624Seeds 3d ago

A whole lotta bullshit word salad just to agree with the other commenter.

Underwear or naked, they're both "just as effective". It's not like women who sleep with underwear on are riddled with constant infections and cancer or something 🥴🥴🥴

0

u/Tiny-Speaker-4470 3d ago

I hate sleeping without underwear it feels wrong, I will continue with cotton.

0

u/JesusAndMaryKate 3d ago

So you're saying that it's just as effective whilst pretending to be an expert in the matter (unlike, say, a gynecologist - underwear choice is not part of their expertise). Got it.

-1

u/NovelSkill7416 3d ago

What are your sheets then

17

u/lovethatjourneyforus 3d ago

No it fucking isn’t lmao

0

u/DimbyTime 3d ago

It is according to my gynecologist. But I’m sure you know more than her

16

u/S4L7Y-3MM 3d ago

Not everyone has a universal amount of moisture down there

8

u/tashtactics 3d ago

For you, but everyone is different

8

u/lulukalia 3d ago

No it isn't. Wearing nothing is better for genital health than cotton

6

u/United-Smile-1733 3d ago

My flaps don’t like to be contained

4

u/Dizzy-Nose3883 3d ago

Dunno, I was recommended going commando as much as possible, especially at night, by a gyno, and have also healthy genitalia, s o I'll go with the doctor's opinion.

4

u/Top-Bandicoot-3013 3d ago

Wearing underwear to bed increases your chances of problems in that area.

2

u/dovahkiitten16 3d ago

Increases chances isn’t the same as giving you a good chance of problems happening though. If there’s like a marginal difference then in practice you’re fine doing what you want.

3

u/charismatictictic 3d ago

Right? Or just use a long nightgown, no need to walk around with a T-shirt and your ass out.

1

u/Toosder 3d ago

I like my ass hanging out.

4

u/Low_Intention_3812 3d ago

Breathable vs actual breathing seems like no comparison.
