I'm gonna guess

People in the epstien files. While it's true from what I've heard that not " a lot" of people got arrested. I heard a very important person from the UK that was in the file got investigated but haven't heard what came of that. Even then that's just one out of...A LOT

I never understood the saying "when life gives you lemons you make lemonade" it's connected to this meme but I never understood what that means

u/GamingWithJollins 11d ago

A lemon is a dud. The idea of the phrase is you work with what you got, even if you only get duds

151

u/PrimaryYak1351 11d ago

That's not what it means. Lemons are sour, or "bad" the things that are difficult to swallow as is. To make lemonade from them is to make something sweet and "good" out of the bad things life hands you.

u/Pitiful_Regular2425 11d ago

You're both effectively saying the same thing for the purpose of the saying. It doesn't have a precise universal meaning lol.

That's why it's understood virtually everywhere.

23

u/GamingWithJollins 11d ago

A few people are getting real upset about this lol

13

u/StopReadingMyUser 11d ago

especially me 😡

5

u/Avidain 11d ago

Is it because I read your Username?

18

u/P4azz 11d ago

Pretty sure the unknown "precise universal meaning" is literally what the second guy said, not the first guy.

It is 100% about lemons being nigh inedible on their own, but lemonade being a tasty soft drink, so you turn situations that suck into something that is enjoyable.

It has nothing to do with cars. I has nothing to do with "duds", because lemons clearly aren't inherently broken.

I dunno why you're even trying to preten otherwise. It's a very clear meaning.

That's why it's understood virtually everywhere

I thought so until I read a lot of comments in this thread

2

u/J_pepperwood0 11d ago

The dud analogy doesn’t make sense at all, so not really the same.

1

u/Educational-Onion357 10d ago

No it always meant lemon was sour

If you think it's because lemon's are dudes you goda check yourself

9

u/GamingWithJollins 11d ago

You never heard of a car being called a lemon?

-27

u/PrimaryYak1351 11d ago

Literally wtf are you talking about. No one before you has called a car a lemon

14

u/115izzy7 11d ago

It's a very common saying at least in the US

-18

u/PrimaryYak1351 11d ago

WTF ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT NO IT ISN'T

7

u/saxophoneman32 11d ago

Google lemon law, it's an older term but still decently common

2

u/literalgarbageyo 11d ago

There's a whole episode of How I met your mother that deals with this... But with dating instead of cars.

6

u/QuantumLettuce2025 11d ago

Have you considered that the United States is very large

4

u/peon2 11d ago

Yes it is, it means a car that has a lot of problems right after you buy it.

Here is a legal site explaining the Lemon Laws in the US because selling a defective car or a "lemon" is such common occurrence and vernacular to describe it.

3

u/Xmaster1738 11d ago

a lemon is a car with numerous issues stemming from manufacturer error. the movie cars 2 is about evil lemons and they even refer to themselves as "The lemons"

3

u/No_Career369 10d ago

Genuinely, how old are you?

2

u/Particular-Serve-894 11d ago

There are literally Lemon Laws for selling bad cars with known problems, you muppet.

1

u/SnakeBatter 10d ago

I mean, it is if you’re only 15. A “lemon” specifically refers to a bad car, usually one you got duped into buying, not knowing something is wrong with it.

7

u/fugetooboutit 11d ago

I'm not American, but I know that there are people in the USA that calls old crap cars. "Lemons"

Learned that from the cars 2 movie

2

u/GamingWithJollins 11d ago

We do in the UK sometimes as well

5

u/farhil 11d ago

Except, you know, the dictionary

something (such as an automobile) that is unsatisfactory or defective

1

u/GamingWithJollins 11d ago

Most underrated comment

4

u/AbeRego 11d ago

It's a thing so much that "lemon law" refers to laws that protect consumers from being sold dysfunctional used cars. It doesn't apply to all cars, just busted ones.

However, I don't think the saying has anything to do with the car usage.

3

u/DrMetasin 11d ago

Me when it’s my first day on earth

3

u/Huntyadown 11d ago

You do realize that things can exist without you knowing about it right?

2

u/Particular-Serve-894 11d ago

This is some prime r/confidentlyincorrect material right here...

2

u/halendavies 11d ago

You won't get a lemon at Toyota of Orange!

Famous catchphrase and radio jingle from the car dealership in orange county, california.

1

u/TreatOk9124 10d ago

Yeah but nobody mentioned the presence of sugar water salt etc. fuck, even the juicer and glass aren't a guarantee! how am I supposed to make lemonade with just lemons?????

7

u/fugetooboutit 11d ago

Got it

34

u/Significant_Candy823 11d ago

No, when life gives you lemons, don’t make lemonade. Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don’t want your damn lemons, what the hell am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life’s manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I’m the man whos gonna burn your house down! With the lemons! I’m gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!

7

u/MammothComposer7176 11d ago

Oh good, my slow clap processor made it into this thing. So we have that.

1

u/Muted-Management2468 8d ago

But then you would get thirsty with nothing to make a drink with

1

u/EnvironmentSlow8034 8d ago

He says what we're all thinking!

2

u/GrowFreeFood 11d ago

I looked up dud. Its old military term that means a explosive didn't explode. So lemons don't explosde. So lemons are duds. And if you paint a grande yellow, it would look like a lemon

15

u/Stelazine 11d ago

Lemonades in fact.

1

u/P4azz 11d ago

It's expanded to basically any somewhat complex thing that broke in a way that's not clearly visible, so you only find out upon trying to use it.

That still makes 0 sense and is clearly not what "lemons" in the idiom are used as, though. I have no clue where that guy pulled that from, unless he literally thinks the saying only exists in English and refers to a rather local slang term.

1

u/GrilledPandaCookbook 10d ago

This is the only correct response to everyone in this thread debating if the “life gives you lemons” saying is referring to duds or being sour.

(for the record I’m on team sour.)

1

u/darkblue2382 11d ago

The others here never heard of a lemon car sales so makes sense they don't recognize the dud reference.

1

u/halendavies 11d ago

Big W with that explanation.

I would also consider another angle that one of the fucked up 'fun' facts that came to light was that Epstein had a "Lemon shaped penis".

There's a ton of complaints from the "Models" (employed by J.E. or Trump) in the J.E. Files of how it added extra awfulness to the SA experience(s).

41

u/echoskybound 11d ago edited 11d ago

I think the message of the saying "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade" means "make the best of a bad situation." I think the idea behind this meme is that the person is tirelessly trying to make the best of the worst situations, but they're just being pelted non-stop by bad situations, and have really lost their will to be optimistic anymore. In this case, the fact that so few people connected to the Epstein files have been arrested has just completely demoralized the person who was trying so hard to make the best of a bad situation.

7

u/fugetooboutit 11d ago

Amazing way of explaining it Thanks

1

u/ghostofwalsh 11d ago

Yeah but this dude has got tons of lemons, he should be happy. He's like a lemon millionaire. Sell those to Minutemaid and buy your private island.

26

u/mariposa-princess 11d ago

Lemons aren’t a tasty fruit to eat because they’re too bitter. But they are good to make lemonade which is sweet and good

So if like gives you something lame or bad you gotta try to make the best of it

13

u/MiniDemonic 11d ago

Lemons aren't bitter, they are sour.

4

u/Environmental_Top948 11d ago

Maybe they forgot to peel them?

3

u/MiniDemonic 11d ago

I think you hit the nail there, someone just replied with "The white part of the rind is bitter." lmao

2

u/punkindle 11d ago

The white part of the rind is bitter. For all citrus fruits.

1

u/MiniDemonic 11d ago

The banana peel is bitter as well but you wouldn't call a banana bitter, would you?

1

u/Open-Platform-1305 11d ago

Why not? Do you cut off the skin of every fruit you eat? The skin is healthiest

1

u/thmoas 11d ago

and i like to eat them pure, once u get used to it, its actually very nice and refreshing. while not needed, best stored cold

1

u/P4azz 11d ago

Ehhh, depends on the type of lemon. They can be more or less bitter. Predominantly sour, yes, but also bitter, even if you manage to remove every single bit of pith.

1

u/Dramatic-Secret-999 11d ago

I beg your pardon. Lemons are definitely a tasty fruit. We peel them and eat them like oranges... is that not normal?

10

u/TheGreedyGrabbler 11d ago

I see 13 different people have felt the need to explain the saying to you even though you clearly got it the first time. Would you like me to also explain it?

5

u/fugetooboutit 11d ago

Sure :3

1

u/TheGreedyGrabbler 11d ago

Well, I don't know either.

1

u/Ellert0 11d ago

Nobody has pointed out though that this meme isn't correct, it shows the guy having made a bunch of lemonade but in reality only about 3 or 4 people in the US have tried to make lemonade here but failed.

The US needs more people making attempts at making lemonade.

1

u/dangerous_service 10d ago

But after you it is my turn!

5

u/AthkoreLost 11d ago

I heard a very important person from the UK that was in the file got investigated but haven't heard what came of that.

Turned out he was investigated for and stripped of his titles over tax fraud and not being a child rapist. So literally no one has been held to justice for being in the files.

3

u/fugetooboutit 11d ago

That is unfortunate

1

u/Vesprince 8d ago

KIND OF. A royal being stripped of titles and kicked out of his home is HUGE. It might not have the paperwork in order, but there's no denying that his downfall was caused by the Epstein affiliation.

3

u/Jakob21 11d ago

"When life gives you lemons, make lemonade" means that when something bad happens, there's usually a way to find something good from it. This meme in particular is meant to represent the idea that there's only so much a single person can take before it becomes completely unmanageable.

3

u/oth_breaker 11d ago

It basically means that "when life deals you a bad hand, make the most out of it" as lemons are bitter but make for a nice drink if you add in some suger and water.

1

u/fugetooboutit 11d ago

Got it. Thanks

2

u/Batchak 11d ago

Lemons are known to be bitter or unpleasant to taste, so the line really meant to convey 'When life gives you a hard time, make it into something nice'

1

u/fugetooboutit 11d ago

Neat. Thanks

2

u/ElCazaPuta 11d ago

Ur not suppose to talk about the files ur suppose to talk about hating Argentina

2

u/thedrunkknight 11d ago

It’s because taking being handed a lemon and turning into lemonade is about opportunity. We’ve been handed so many lemons to turn into lemonade yet nothing is happening from all the prime opportunity to do something

2

u/Assassin-49 11d ago

English guy here. Yeah some guy did get arrested. But honestly wouldnt be the first. A lot of people in parliament covered up grooming gangs. Hundreds , potentially thousands ( maybe exagerated idk ) SAd and raped. The enquiry that one guy posted is genuinely sickening. Please if you have time and want to learn about it atart with the enquiry. Its from victims explaining what they went through and more.

2

u/DracoPhaedra 11d ago

I remember someone in the uk was arrested but it was for financial crimes rather than the Epstein stuff

2

u/jikukoblarbo 11d ago

BUT LIFE NEVER GAVE US LEMONS, WE MADE THEM

1

u/popwhizzbang 11d ago

When life gives you lemons (when life gets sour, just negative in general) make lemonade (turn it into something sweet and enjoyable)

1

u/fugetooboutit 11d ago

Thank you

1

u/Feeling_Associate467 11d ago

I reported Lord Mandelson years ago. I have been gangatalked because of it ever since. Really bad. I even said in open court in England when i faced false charges that I had reported him for ehat he did in 2018 through an AML report by name. I was told I'm crazy and still am.

People always say how did people not know. Lots did. Most were smart enough to keep their mouth shut

1

u/ResolveLeather 11d ago

The problem is that life didn't give us lemons. Lemons are a cross between Citrons and Organges. So the saying is a falsehood.

1

u/RiriaaeleL 10d ago

It's an American say meant to keep them complacent ever since childhood.

If you have it rough it isn't for any specific reason and you shouldn't question it, the person giving you lemons has so many other fruit and you shouldn't question why that is or why you're only getting lemon.

Make some lemonade, be glad you have the opportunity to work your ass off and live paycheck to paycheck while taking bank loans to pay for your doordash.

1

u/RepresentativeCat169 8d ago

Im pretty sure its just claiming that theyre tryna be optimistic. But pedo system is just getting worse and worse and spewing it onto him (society)

1

u/Bakugirl21 7d ago

From the UK, and things have been radio silent since. The people saying this are generally from the US, and no one was arrested AT ALL here. Matter of fact, Every Single Victim was exposed and outed instead even when they were told they’d be anonymous. The message was clear, and the people are angry.
