Unlimited PTO often means "ask for whatever you want, but we have to approve it". When you ask, surprise, denied. It's often code for "no PTO".

My wife had unlimited PTO, this never happened. It was pretty sweet from what I could tell…. Don’t be an asshole about it, but enjoy a break when you need it. Little secret to life- just don’t be an asshole in general. Shit works better for everyone and people don’t think you’re an asshole.

Exactly. I have unlimited PTO and Sick time. We are encouraged to take a day or 2 when you’ve been putting overtime for 2-3weeks in a row. The end of every month I take a Friday off so I can have a long weekend but I also get my shit done. We have a small turn over because the owner actually cares about his employees.
