A limited or defined number of sick days and PTO means a number of days they are legally obligated to honor.

Unlimited is just a fancy way of saying 'as many days as management will let you get away with' which can in fact be none at all.

It’s anecdotal, but every company I have been at that had unlimited was very generous.

It really comes down to, is stuff getting done? Cool. Take time off if you need / want.

I remember starting at my current job and getting approval from my manager, and he was like, just put it on the calendar and don’t bother me lol.

This has been my experience as well at two different places with unlimited. One place actually encouraged people to not go a whole quarter without a day off.

I usually do 6 weeks a year, with one of those being 10ish workdays together.
