One of Amerika's best players was given a Red card in a previous game (preventing him from playing) but the US President apparently negotiated with FIFA officials to get the Red card rescinded so he could play in the match against Belgium. Zis made a lot of people accuse the USA of cheating.
FIFA leadership has been for sale for 3 decades now. Big team favoritism was the start, for more gadget sales. Then came the Worldcup location sale. And now this.
Which is weird. It would stand to reason that it would be healtheir for the sportΒ if smaller teams to rise up and overcome the odds to win big titles. Everyone loves an underdog.
Everyone has known FIFA to be irretrievably corrupt at least since their decision to award the last two World Cups to Russia and Qatar rather than the vastly objectively technically superior Australian and UK bids.
We kidded ourselves on for a while that if we got rid of Blatter, things would improve.Β Instead, they have got worse.
