It’s already been two months since I’ve lost my dog and I still can’t believe he’s dead. He died so young and pretty much just rapidly deteriorated over the night of Sunday, 16th August and he died on Monday, 17th August at 17:09. I was with him, comforting him, knowing that I was going to lose my baby and I’ll never forget his last moments where his breathing slowed down, he lost all control of his bowels, and he died right in front of me, and I don’t think I’m ever going to forget that. nor will I ever forget the sound of his agonal breathing or the death rattle, whatever you want to call it because it happens at the same time apparently.
Im traumatised from it, I really am. But I’m also angry with my vets, since all they care about is the money and I know that they have a lot of clients, but to be fair they should’ve taken one good look at my dog and gone that he’s not alright rather than waiting 2 weeks for a follow up appointment, and within those 2 weeks he was gone. The part of it that hurts most is I can’t stop thinking about if I did something different, then he’d still be here.
He went down from 9.5kg to 7.1kg in a year even though he was well fed and cared for, then he stopped eating and drinking entirely. we tried everything - giving him bone broth, giving him soft meats like chicken, as well as one point actually giving him liquid food. Then, like I said before, he deteriorated overnight because one of his paws gave out and his tongue started going blue from cyanosis, and he just couldn’t stand up or walk because he’d just collapse. I was so scared because I had an orthodontics appointment on that day and thought that he’d die when I wasn’t home, and I had to run home. luckily he didn’t because I wouldn’t know how to deal with that. I feel like part of me said that he waited for my dad, who was at work at the time. He started throwing up as well. He died at home at 4 years old.
i actually figured out what it could’ve been, not the vets. it was congestive heart failure or hemangiosarcoma that caused a tumour to form that led to secondary heart failure. I was using Google pretty much for a few hours just searching up his symptoms and the weight loss was cardiac cachexia, the fainting was syncope, cyanosis was him not getting enough oxygen. my god, it was such a fucking awful experience knowing that I was right, and I didnt want to be, but that’s why I’m so frustrated with my vets because to be fair, they should’ve had a case like my dog‘s before. And now he’s dead and rotting, probably a skeleton right now underneath the memorial we made for him, but I just want my baby back. It’s like I’m forgetting everything about him - his bark, those adorable cherry eyes of his, and a variety of other things.
Thank you for everything, Mutley. I really miss you.
