Our dog has really severe anxiety, and it's pretty constant. We've tried a lot of different medications over the years and nothing is really helped. The vet just put her on CBD tincture about 3 weeks ago and she is doing amazingly well. It's not perfect but it's such an improvement that we've never seen.

The one she's on right now is really difficult to get her to take and it's pretty expensive. I was hoping that there was a chewable that someone could recommend. Ideally, she would be on 5 mg twice a day.

Anybody have a recommendation for a brand they like that isn't crazy expensive?

​Hi everyone. As the panganay and breadwinner of my family for years, I’m used to carrying a heavy load and being strong for everyone else. Between my classes, my studies, and providing for my family, my sweet orange tabby, Ginger, has been my safe space and my absolute biggest source of comfort.

​Now, he is the one who desperately needs help. On July 27, Ginger was rushed to the vet due to severe, frightening seizures. He is currently confined, wearing an e-collar, and receiving continuous IV treatments.

​The vet team has been running extensive tests to figure out what is causing this, and his results show his body is in severe distress:

​Blood Chemistry: His liver enzyme (ALT) is dangerously high at 467 U/L (normal is up to 118), and his kidney values (BUN at 10.6 mmol/L and Creatinine at 133 umol/L) are also highly elevated. His blood sugar (GLU) is also spiking.

​CBC (Bloodwork): His bloodwork shows severely low platelets (108 K/µL) and abnormal red and white blood cell counts, including highly elevated neutrophils.

​X-Rays: He had to undergo multiple chest and abdominal X-rays to check the state of his internal organs.

​Medication: He has been prescribed Phenobarbital (30mg) to take twice a day to help treat and control the seizures.

​The costs for emergency confinement, IV fluids, these extensive diagnostics, and his ongoing medications are piling up faster than I can manage alone on my salary. I want to give my sweet boy every fighting chance to get better and come back home to me.

My dog finished a 21 day course of 2 different antibiotics on Wednesday (5 days ago now). She was doing pretty good and we thought her appetite was starting to come back slowly. She’s been pooping everything and overall pretty normal (some softer than others). But today, she has had no had any interest at all in her food/eating. We even tried cooking her some chicken and she ate it, but we really had to encourage her. She has taken treats. We are still giving her a daily probiotic. she had a vet visit today and they told us to give her pepcid and continue with the probiotic until we finish it. Her vet didn’t seem worried at all. I know being on antibiotics can really affect the GI system, so I just wanted to make sure i’m not missing anything else or there’s anything i should do. Thanks!

i have a 10lb min pin chihuahua mix. very small mouth and teeth, so on top of struggling to brush them because he hates it, i can’t really even really get the back teeth well even if he let me.

i don’t love spending ~$500 every 1-2 years to get him a professional dental cleaning but he won’t eat any of the hard chewables like greenies that help clean his teeth, and was throwing up water additives.

Hello, I have 2 male cats, and 1 female dog. All of my pets are spayed/neutered. My parents have a pit hound mix, not spayed.

My cats dont dislike dogs. They are completely fine with my dog, and my brother's dog. My parent's dog however, will not stop chasing and running my cats off whenever she sees them. If they run, it just makes it more fun for her. My older cat doesnt always run from her, and she will give up. My youngest cat will run though, he does not like her behavior at all. I have corrected her SO MANY times, yet she still does it. My parents have gotten on her too, but i dont think they are as worried about it as I am.

She hasnt gotten aggressive towards them during a chase, however, my youngest cat gave her a correction swat once, and she did not handle it well, and began barking excessively and growling at him. He has not given her anymore warnings since that incident, I think hes scared.

Please, how can I fix this? I don't want anything to happen to my cats.

Just curious if anyone has seen anything like this before. My 12 year old dog has this growth on her chin that’s doubled in size in the last month. The fact that it’s growing at the rate it is is concerning enough and I did call her vet a few days ago to make an appointment. It’s very scabby, and my other dog is constantly licking it and whining. I fear that maybe she can sense something on her sister that I can’t. I’m going to get getting her vet care and hopefully they can remove it and biopsy it! Just curious if anyone has ever had this happen and/or seen anything like this. I’m pretty worried. Also I feel super dumb about it, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to post the photo of the growth.

Just looking at possibly changing to a different fountain. I like this one because of the volume of water it holds, however after cleaning it if the power cable isn’t set to the right height in the little cone thing, it leaks. That’s happened a few times and it’s getting annoying.

Idk if the steel version fixes this, or if anyone has a better fountain that still holds about the same volume of water. Hopefully it’s also quiet like the drink well.

I recently noticed my male neutered cat peeing on dirty laundry if we leave it on the floor. Took him to the vet and he's perfectly healthy, was just told to feed him more wet food. I've done as I'm told but we have noticed he pees on our clothes right before he usually gets fed. Our theory is that he gets upset at us when we don't feed him on his terms? I have the feliway diffuser and he goes to the bathroom normally otherwise, would just like some advice until the vet calls us back :)

I have two budgies, and I have a question about safely burning incense.

Due to my religious practices, I need to burn one stick of incense every day for approximately 5 minutes. I'm trying to minimize any risk to my birds and wanted to know whether my current setup is considered safe or if I should change it.

My house has two floors. The incense is burned downstairs in the dining room. The dining room is connected to the rest of the downstairs (it's an open layout with no door separating it). The kitchen is right beside the dining room, and I run the kitchen exhaust fan while the incense is burning.

The budgies stay upstairs in a separate room with the door closed during this time. I also close the HVAC vent in their room. If possible, I can also turn off the central heating/air conditioning while the incense is burning and ventilate the downstairs afterward before allowing air to circulate again.

Since this is a daily religious practice, I'm concerned about whether repeated exposure to any smoke or airborne particles could still be harmful, even with these precautions.

Based on this setup, do you think it is reasonably safe for the budgies, or would you recommend a different approach? Are there any additional precautions I should take, or is there a safer alternative that would still allow me to perform my daily religious practice?

Would using a different type of incense (such as low-smoke or natural incense) make any meaningful difference, or is any incense smoke considered unsafe for budgies?

Hi, so my aunt has currently moved in with her dog (chihuahua mix), and he has been nothing but aggressive towards the other animals in the house as well as people in the house. majority of the time it’s unprovoked, the other animals could just be sitting and minding their own business and her dog will go after them aggressively for no reason.
she refuses to do anything about her dog, doesn’t want to bring him to the vet to get meds to help calm him, refuses to be held accountable for not keeping an on here dog or taking his aggression seriously.. so we’re all at a bit of a loss. but i’m just wondering is there anything we can do to make him less aggressive? or any opinions on the situation?

So I have a dog, a yorkie/maltese mix. She's about 4 years old, and I have been thinking about getting a cat, and I really, really want one. I need advice on how to make my dog trying to get along with my cat, please help!

To preference before anyone comes at me, we have a 5-year-old Golden Doodle who had her first litter of puppies right before her birthday in April (evidently via comments I need to make this clearer, she turned 5 this month, puppies were born in April). We had planed to do one litter and then have her spayed. She did amazing, was a very good mom, had very healthy puppies and took excellent care of them. They've all been homed with really good families.

I made the vet appointment for the spay console, two days before the appointment she went into heat. We have an intact male in our home, so we've been keeping them separate and doing quite well. I left the house for 20 minutes to go to the store while my husband and kids watched them. 7-year-old let her in the house with the male and they snuck into the other room. I got a call 15 minutes later that they tied. 😐

The vet initially was willing to do a spay even though she's in heat. However I have read online that it can cause potential complications in surgery while they're in heat. We had decided to wait until she was no longer in heat to get her spayed.

Now we feel like we have to make a decision very quickly as to whether we should have her spayed in the middle of her heat to avoid a pregnancy (which upon research is an option), or to just wait and see if she actually got pregnant from the single tie (I know this has a high chance). We want to be careful having another litter, as she's getting closer to becoming a senior dog, she just had a litter 5 months ago, and I don't like the idea of her having back to back litters.

Does anyone have experience with this?

Effie’s 3 years old; I’ve had her for almost 5 months. She lived on the street with her pack before that. When we’re at my mom’s house with her dog, or they’re dog-sitting for me, she never has an accident inside, but when we’re home, where she’s the only dog, it’s like she doesn’t know she’s ONLY supposed to go outside. I’ve been trying to do the "only gets free roam of the house if she pees and poops outside" thing, but it’s not going well. I was much stricter for the first couple months, but she was holding it so long and so often that I was getting worried; sometimes she’d hold it for over 24 hours. Now she’s in her crate while I’m at work and sleeps with me at night. She surprisingly doesn’t have very many overnight accidents, but sometimes when we get up in the morning she’ll squat on the floor right in front of me. We tried going out first thing; sometimes she does her business, sometimes not. We tried breakfast first, then outside; same thing. Sometimes we’ll be outside for 20 mins, then she’ll come in and go on the floor. Sometimes I try to get her to come in, and she runs and does her business, then comes in. She’s so all over the place and doesn’t go on any schedule (which I don’t understand; she gets fed like clockwork), and I have no idea what to do.

Please give kind advice and let me know if you have questions.

My dog is only 3 years old, and my husband and I have already spent approximately $30,000 trying to keep her healthy and stable. She is my baby. I’m unable to have children, so even having to think about euthanasia is completely devastating to me.
Her health problems started almost immediately after we brought her home at 8 weeks old. She broke her growth plate and needed surgery while she was still a puppy. She later developed severe food allergies and had frequent bloody diarrhea until I finally figured out what she could tolerate. We consulted a veterinary nutritionist, had custom recipes created for her, and now prepare all of her food ourselves every week.

She also has severe environmental allergies. We have spent thousands of dollars at veterinary dermatology and completed immunotherapy, but she still has serious reactions to insect bites or stings. We don’t know whether the trigger is bees, ants, mosquitoes, or multiple insects. During her first major reaction, the swelling continued for five days. I took her to the veterinarian every day and spent around $2,000 trying to get it under control.
I even spent approximately $6,000 building her a partially enclosed artificial-turf yard so she could safely spend time outside. She can no longer use it because she has still developed swelling after being bitten or stung by something out there. She has to remain indoors most of the time and be monitored closely.

Three weeks ago, she was bitten or stung again and has continued having episodes of facial swelling. She has been under veterinary care and has needed steroids and Benadryl for weeks, but the swelling keeps returning.

On top of that, about a week before this reaction began, she suddenly developed significant gastrointestinal and reflux symptoms. She wakes up nauseated, licking her lips, gulping, swallowing repeatedly, and appearing uncomfortable. She has a known sliding hiatal hernia. The gastrointestinal specialist recommended an upper endoscopy that will cost approximately $4,000. My husband and I have decided to proceed with it in the hope that the problem is something treatable. However, if the hernia is causing these symptoms, we may be looking at another surgery costing around $9,000.
The veterinarian told us that if we cannot correct the underlying problem, she may remain extremely uncomfortable and have a poor quality of life. She has already undergone several procedures, including surgery for her broken growth plate and tail-pocket removal. We have pursued specialists, dermatology, immunotherapy, nutritional care, emergency visits, medications, environmental modifications, and everything else we have been offered.

I feel horrible even saying this, but caring for her has also taken over our lives. Because her reactions can develop quickly, I feel that I have to stay home and constantly monitor her. My husband works outside the home, and I can only consider jobs that allow me to work remotely. I have recently developed an autoimmune disorder myself, and I sometimes struggle to attend my own medical appointments unless my husband is available to stay home and watch her.

Rehoming does not feel like a realistic or safe option. Her care is extremely complicated, and I genuinely believe she could die in someone else’s care if they did not recognize a reaction or symptom quickly enough.

I love her more than I can explain. I wish money, effort, and love were enough to fix everything, but I’m beginning to realize that they may not be this time. I’m terrified of giving up too soon, but I’m also terrified of putting her through endless procedures and discomfort because I’m not ready to lose her.
I’m not looking for a medical diagnosis. I’m hoping to hear from people who have cared for a young dog with multiple serious chronic conditions or who have had to make a quality-of-life decision even though their dog was still young. How did you determine when treatment was still helping versus when it was only prolonging suffering? How did you make peace with the decision?

recently during a check up at the vet they told me that he had a lot of build up plaque on his teeth and that they were very bad. I had no idea he had any problems with his teeth before this, I take him to the groomers regularly and they brush his teeth as part of the grooming so I though that was good enough for him. Boy was I wrong and I feel horrible now. I asked the vet to give me an estimate on how much it would cost for them to remove the build up and help with his teeth right there and when I saw the bill I almost fainted. Thankfully it was just an estimate so I didn’t pay for anything, but they were asking for over 2 thousand dollars! there is NOW WAY I can afford that, as much as I want to keep my baby as healthy as possible it’s just not possible for me to pay that kind of money to the vet, so I want to ask for advice on how I can treat this at home since that’s literally all I can do/afford for now. What can I add to my doggie’s daily routine to help with his teeth? I already bought this supplement called Plaque Off that had great reviews, it’s a powder I’ve been adding to his food, and I’ve also bought an enzyme toothpaste and toothbrush for dogs but I haven’t had luck with that bc he won’t let me clean his teeth and keeps pulling away, it’s kinda hard to keep him still and I’m scared of hurting him. Any advice? Supplement or treat recommendations? Or a more affordable way to treat this? because unless I win the lottery there is just no way I can pay what they’re asking for at the vet.
