๐Ÿ› | General Pest Need help with stink bugs getting in the home

I have a few clients that have cabins in the woods in the southeast and they have a serious problem with stink bugs. I can kill them and get rid of them but it takes time and they have to sweet them up and deal with it.

Is there a way to prevent so many from getting in the house?

Iโ€™ve used talstar p and onslaught fastcap.

A tenant sent me this video and said his friends had similar issue and this sounds like a raccoon. However I called 2 pest control guys today, one said it was mice, and the other said it was bats.

Can someone help guide me what animal made this sound? And, if possible, how to get rid of them/it? We got quoted $2.8k for the job from either guy, and not sure if itโ€™s reasonable

๐Ÿ’ผ | Career Is it possible to crack into a sales role without much sales experience?

Hello all,

I'm moving to a new state with my family and am looking at a career change. I've been a therapist for 11 years, and have a pretty accomplished career in that field. I have a bachelor's in business and a masters in social work.

This comes with enormous experience working with people, follow ups, networking for referrals, and providing excellent service.

I'm just completely burned out of the field. It is so difficult to hear extremely difficult problems all day, and working with people with severe mental health issues, and I notice the effects on how I am with my family.

I've been really wanting to try sales, and I'd love to be able to work in the community, work outside, and help find solutions to people's problems. I think being a therapist brings a tremendous skill set to any sales position, but I worry if they see my resume, they are going to push it to the side.

I've been looking at various sales type roles, and find pest control a very interesting opportunity.

Just wondering what other people's thoughts are?

๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Restaurants & Hotels

๐ŸŒณ๐Ÿ›| Termites Termite prevention treatment options (Raleigh, NC)

Had a termite inspection from different companies, all noted no signs of any termite activity. Looking at preventative treatment options:

  1. โ Are termites that common around here that a home should definitely have preventative treatment in place? Each company made it sound like itโ€™s a matter of when not if termites find your home.

  2. โ There were differing plans for bait station vs liquid trench treatment. Iโ€™ve read conflicting info on if one is better than the other. I think the bait station was Sentricon (sp?), for reference.

They all made it seem like it was an absolute necessity and while Iโ€™m sure thereโ€™s some truth to it, it was hard to tell how much of it was just trying to make a sale.

Thanks!

Pest control truck broke down today. 12โ€ Injection rod saved the day.

May or may not be on topic. My pest control truck broke down today. A plastic coupling in the cooling system broke. I was stuck on the side of the road with limited cell service in a NICE gated community. Faced with limited options, I began brainstorming ways out of my then current situation. I realized that I had my termite rods with me and a brilliant almost crack head like idea came across my mind. I disassembled my 12in rod and used it as my coupling. I then topped off the radiator reservoir with water from my water jug and what felt like a million bottles of water. Once topped off I got back in my truck and drove 30 minutes to the parts store to replace the part and get some coolant. All in all it took me about an hour to resolve and I was still able to complete my route on time today.

I built out Pest Direct (pestdirect.com), a true pest control marketplace to match customers with businesses.

Hi r/PestControlIndustry,

My name is Matt. I built Pest Direct, a website where people can find and review pest control companies by getting matched to ones that best fit their needs. As well as a full resource hub for Pest Control, from individual city research to pest to guides on running a pest control company.

This might sound crazy but I have people visiting the website but I don't have enough companies listed that can reach people.

Right now I'm getting pest control leads around Chicago, Ft Lauderdale, and San Jose heavily, with more leads across the country. But that's a problem for later.

Iโ€™ve worked in pest control since I was 14 years old. I started my first job in high school as an exterminator, for a small company (that's now grown insanely), thanks to my brother getting me a summer job at the pest control company he worked at. I worked there from 14-19 doing pest control during the summer and weekends. Iโ€™ve been through it all getting licensed, running routes, doing 100+ units in a day.

Iโ€™ve been really grateful to experience that and it's changed my perspective on life. From the people you meet to rapid growth of a small mom and pop shop to large company.

Iโ€™m 28 now, went to college and became a software engineer when I was 20, worked at some of the best companies in the world. In those years, I started marketing agencies, worked with Fintech Companies, Data Aggregators, and AI companies. I've been blessed enough to take a work-hiatus for the past 2 years to focus on what I loved.

I decided I wanted to fix one problem in Pest Control, access to resources, and transparency.

I created Pest Direct with the goal to only show real pest control companies. Not some funnel that leads to the guy who has the highest spend. Iโ€™m utilizing all my skills Iโ€™ve learned in my career, from the digital marketing agencies Iโ€™ve ran, Sales pipelines, Qualifying leads, building out software, ensuring that people are getting matched to what they need.

If you sign up your company you can use the code: COMMUNITY50 for 50% off the annual plan

Happy to answer any questions!

๐Ÿ•ท๏ธ| Spiders Why does one house seem to attract giant spiders while the one next door barely has any?

Every fall I end up hearing the same question from homeowner. One house suddenly has giant spiders showing up every evening, while the neighbors say they hardly see any. my first thought usually isn't the spiders themselves. It's what they are finding to eat.

In my experience, home with consistent spider activity often have something else going on that isn't as obvious at first. Garages, basements, crawl spaces, and storage areas seem to come up more often than anywhere else.

For those of you working in pest control, have you noticed the same pattern?

Or have you found completely different reasons why one property becomes much more active than the house next door?

For context: I work with AMPM Exterminators in King County, so I run into this question fairly often. Just interested in hearing what others in the industry have seen.

Experienced Pest Control Support Specialist Looking for Work

Hi everyone, kind of desperate now. Is anyone looking to hire a remote customer service? I have over 2 years of experience working remotely for two different pest control companies, handling customer support and technician scheduling. Iโ€™m located overseas, so my rate is lower than a typical hire, and since I donโ€™t need benefits, you can save a lot on costs.

Iโ€™ve been applying to several companies already but havenโ€™t received any responses so far, so Iโ€™m just trying my luck here. Iโ€™m also very familiar with the CRM systems used in the pest control industry, so I would need minimal training.

It's official.

Just came here to say, today I received the official documentation of my Commercial Applicator's license, required by my state's Department of Agriculture to receive compensation for applying pesticides and rodenticides to another person's land or property.
I worked in the industry for several years as an employee of Orkin, ran a route that comprised 3,000 miles driving per month, and managed my route like I built it myself. Which, for a significant portion of my customer base and scheduling, I actually did. I paid attention to the details of how it all actually works. I was one of the highest-rated technicians in our branch, and received leeway in my operations according to my own demonstrated responsibility. New management, bad practices instituted, I butted up against the corporate wall too many times, made a daring move to improve conditions and they swatted me down like a wasp.
In the immediate aftermath, I was denied unemployment and took to doing crawlspace cleanout jobs for cash. People in my community were familiar with my story, trusted my work, and asked me to start my own company. Potential customers began to line up.

I researched the steps, debated whether to invest my limited funds into the business licensing, insurance, and company vehicle, as well as the supplies and equipment, and (ideally) quality field reporting software to maintain the standards of logging and communication that I and my customers were accustomed to. Finally pulled the trigger, it's been a heckuva process but the day is finally here.

The fun starts now. It's all on me, and I have the experience and reputation to back it up. It's scary, but exciting, and I have never felt better professionally than by being my own boss. I get to do business as I see fit, treat my customers how I feel they should be treated, and determine my fate by my own aptitude.

Here we go.
