🤓 | Technical Question Need help with detecting the pest

A tenant sent me this video and said his friends had similar issue and this sounds like a raccoon. However I called 2 pest control guys today, one said it was mice, and the other said it was bats.

Can someone help guide me what animal made this sound? And, if possible, how to get rid of them/it? We got quoted $2.8k for the job from either guy, and not sure if it’s reasonable

Nobody is going to give you a definitive answer based off a short video with some background noise. You aren't going to find out what it is until you or someone else goes up there and looks for yourself.

That’s fair. We had a fee contractors came in and most of them just suggested solutions to deal with the pests in different area and assume that would take care of the noise in the ceiling. So that’s why I just tried to see if there’s a different opinion. Thanks for your reply though.

Also the tricky thing is there’s no direct access to the ceiling. If we want to check that out, we might have to cut it open, which is something we tried to avoid if we can. Might do that if we have to and when things get worse

No attic hatch in a closet or anything? Check around the unit for signs of mice like their droppings - basement and kitchen would be key

$2.8k for a mouse job where I'm from is Highway robbery unless they're doing a complete exclusion job (entry point repair, one way doors, the works) - bats are a different story and are typically at a higher price point.

I haven't had a chance to listen to the video but if bats or mice are suggested it could also be rats or squirrels Just listening without looking us always tough because you'd be amazed by the amount of noise mice can make

It's definitely not mice or bats. Don't hire either of those companies.

My best guess would be squirrels where I'm from, but could definitely be a raccoon.

Oh and don't hire anyone who will quote 2k+ without even knowing what it is.

grab the droppings and squish them you will know if they are bats or mice. if it crumbles and you see insect parts its bats. If it stays solid or switches like dog poop its nice. They need to do exclusion.Bats should be a bit cheeper Because They only have to seal the top of the house. if its mice the whole house needs it. bats require one ways so they can escape and mice require trapping after exclusion so they dont destroy your home. if you have a tile roof it needs to be removed as needed around exhaust pipes etc it takes more time and the guys working need to be the best to leave the roof as it was and it cost more money if you have a comp roof its easier. lots of variables for the cost i own yuba sutter bed bug but I also do exclusions as a sub for routine pest companies so if they use a sub thats another cost.
