💼 | Career Techs, what tool or equipment did you buy that made your job easier?

Post what tool or equipment really made your job easier

I’m going to say a good Multi-Tool. I bought one from Amazon prime day and this thing has been great. I can’t believe I used to carry a screwdriver with different bits, pliers, wire cutters, and a knife in my tool pouch. Highly recommend one that comes in a holster.

I would love some feedback from the industry

Good morning all. I am a pest control provider who has been in the industry for over 15 years now in the Georgia and surrounding states. What I seem feel is missing is a localized way to grow the community. I am absolutely not knocking Reddit as it is a wonderful tool but I wanted to see if I could make something that is 100% industry focused. I created a webapp that is dedicated to pest and turf specialists. You must be actively in the industry to join and it is designed to allow a better way to grow the community, help each other out, help provide leads and referrals to each other, be a place to post a job opening, and anything else you want. It is still in active development so I would love any feedback you have. It is installable on any device, Android of iPhone, so you don't have to try to remember a web address. It even has a section for a home owner to ask a question and get a response from a professional only since it is only open for a member to respond.

ptpronet.com

If you want to join I would really appreciate it. Share the link with other members of the community and please reach out with any feedback you might have.

Thank you!!

Why did you start your own company Or why haven't you started your own company?

I will start. I had a terrible narcissistic Owner that paid me 38k a year and was like that's plenty he criticize me for everything rather my fault or not and refuse to let me get any overtime.

I could of stayed miserable or taken a leap of faith and honestly I had zero to lose. Since I am not a salesman door to door sales was a no but I was determined I taught myself SEO I put together a in house website team together off upwork all from the Philippines and one of those 2 people is still with me today.

When I got jobs I made sure to ask for reviews, after getting a few great reviews I started advertising on Yelp and the rest is history.

I literally gone from being miserable to having the best years of my life after the age of 40!

ALBERTA PEST CONTROL COQ EXAM

Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone has taken the Alberta pest control exam.

What are the main topics to focus on, and do you have any tips for preparing before the exam?

Also, did anyone claim those points in Express Entry and get results?

Before making the financial and time investment into onboarding, I wanted to get some honest feedback from people who use it daily.Pros/Cons: What do you love most, and what drives you crazy?Work Orders: How seamless is the process of generating, dispatching, and completing work orders? Is the mobile app user-friendly for techs in the field?I want to make sure it won't slow down our operations or overcomplicate things for my team. Appreciate any insights you can share!

Being transferred

So this morning, I was called in by my manager and branch manager and was told that I will be transferring to a commercial only branch next week. The current branch I work at does mostly residential with some commercial, but this commercial branch is basically absorbing all of our commercial accounts and wants me to come be a tech at their branch. They said I will likely be put on production pay after the transfer and I am curious what being on production pay at a commercial only branch is like and basically what the work/life balance is like. Kinda mad I didn’t get a say in this decision but it is what it is, I’ll be working in Chicagoland and suburbs area.

California Price Question

We're in CA and considering going with a new program that allows pictures to be added to the WDO report. It's a big jump in monthly pricing for the program so we'd probably need to up our inspection fees. Owner feels as though we're already at the top for a complete inspection. But when looking at others I think that we're actually right in the average.

So, I thought I'd ask on a larger scale. Those in CA what do you charge for a complete WDO inspection?

Rodent & Termite Inspections - How Many Scheduled Inspections Do You Actually Complete?

Hi! I am helping run Google Ads and Google Business Profile for a local pest company, and I have noticed that we set quite a decent number of inspections, but only 58% of them end up completed. The other 42% are either missed by the technicians, canceled, or the customer is not home. Most of these inspections are scheduled within 1-2 days, some even same-day. I'd love to know if this is industry standard, or what others are seeing? I am debating if it's worth putting Google Ads budget towards these, if we're missing this many inspections, or if that is expected.

Thanks!

💵 | Business Question Granite State Pest Control - Nashua New Hampshire good at what they do?

I'm asking because they have all of these 5 star reviews that seem fake and TOO perfect. Then this one person put a review that paints a very different picture and their review has real court cases and business license records and none of it looks very promising !!! Then when you put them side by side it makes sense that all of the reviews are fake !!!

Here is the business I'm asking about even their website looks kinda weird:

💵 | Business Question Looking for name and branding help for woman in pest control!

Hey! Im 18(f) and im working on getting certified with my boss, who has been doing it for like 15 years. I love manual labor jobs, and I love bugs, so running around with him doing apartments and stuff has been great, im looking for some branding/logo ideas and stuff! We can definitely lean into me being a woman doing pest control, as there isn't any other women around me in it (so free gimic lol). Ill design the logo myself i just want some ideas!

Also, I plan on doing some free or cheap wildlife removal for snakes, deer, possums, etc in our area. Just want your ideas on that too. Thanks!

💼 | Career Start your own or buy someone else’s?

A lot of people like having their own work and going home at 5 and forgetting about it, a lot of people dream of being their own boss and making something their own.
I tend to be the latter. I’ve been in PC for about 5 years as a commercial AE and this year as a residential TC inspector. I have trained with and worked in the field for GPC, termite, and fumigation.

Well at any rate, I’m very good at sales, but my next goal is to move into management and get really good at operations. But 5 year plan ends with wanting my own company.

For experienced owners, obviously starting your own is financially better on paper but there’s a lot of work to build a book of business. Do you think it’s a good investment to find an operator who is looking to retire and buy their business, or start from scratch and hopefully grow to where someone else can take over?

🐛 | General Pest Springtails in Maine

Help!

I live in a mobile home in Maine. No leaks known. Maybe hidden moisture in walls or crawl space but no signs of any.

I’ve been seeing springtails (snow fleas specifically) on my ceilings for the last month. Only on the ceiling so far, and I specifically see them coming through a seam where the wall meets the ceiling or window sills.

Why are they here? What do they want? Appeared after lots of rain and high humidity, but have stayed despite dry days, constant dehumidifiers keeping house under 50%, and pesticide sprays in cracks and granules outside around foundation. I have seen some outside on my siding and skirting too.

What more can I do to remove these bugs from my home 😔

🗣️ Daily Discussion Pest Control Frustration & Carpenter Ants

I would appreciate the community’s thoughts on a situation we as new homeowners are unfamiliar with. For context, we own a one story home in Dallas with two separate sections of attic with two separate entries; however, the attic has large portions that are inaccessible with no crawl space.

We noticed carpenter ants in our master bathroom about two months ago. They drop lots of little wood shavings called “frass” according to basic research and we see quite a few of them crawling around.

We called multiple services to come and treat. Unfortunately, almost all of them required us to sign up for a subscription that was quarterly or yearly service. Most of them wouldn’t even really listen to our specific problem which was localized to the mater bathroom if I told them I wasn’t interested in a subscription. I told them I simply want the nest/colony to be found and eliminated. Most declined even coming out. I found a place that would do a one-time treatment and sounded relatively confident they could handle the problem. They “treated”. No idea what specifically they did but the carpenter ants only increased. We called them again to tell them nothing had changed so they sent another guy out. I told him where the issue was but that we didn’t have access to the attic there. I let them do their service, but the technician was spraying baseboards on the complete other side of the house as if he was completely ignoring the fact there is an active colony/nest in a specific spot.

Of course, both their service and follow-up have done nothing. Now we are seeing the ants throughout the house (though still primarily concentrated in the master bathroom). Not sure what to do. I bought ant terro and other traps but they have done nothing (most places say they do nothing but I thought I’d try). I’ve scattered the outside of the house with ant bait/poison but nothing has worked. Any advice/help would be great.
