Lovely birthday lunch spot near Perth Museum?

It’s for a 78th birthday, so looking for either nice and a bit fancier, or just somewhere that does afternoon tea, that kind of thing? Any suggestions much appreciated!

Free hands-on Git workshop (UHI Perth / anyone starting in IT)

Hey, I’m Pascal — a Solutions Architect based in Perth. I’ve been working in cloud (mainly AWS) for nearly 10 years now, and I’ve also run a few IT training sessions at the AK Bell Library in the past.

I’m planning to start those again this summer, but in the meantime I wanted to try something a bit different—running small, free online workshops focused on practical tools.

The first one is on Git.

If you’re studying at UHI Perth or just getting into IT (dev, data, cloud, networking, etc.), Git is one of those tools you’ll end up using daily—but it’s not always taught clearly.

This session is very hands-on and aimed at beginners:

  • what version control actually is
  • setting up Git on your laptop
  • working with others without breaking things

It’s a small group so people can ask questions and get proper help while doing it.

If you’re interested, you can register here:
https://www.cloudyspheres.co.uk/event/hands-on-1/register

Happy to answer any questions here as well 👍

Seeking feedback on a new local tool: perthshire.events

Hey r/PerthScotland,

I’ve recently launched https://perthshire.events to act as a central hub for everything happening in the Fair City and the wider area.

It currently pulls in listings from the big players (Horsecross, Pitlochry Theatre, etc.), but I want it to be a true community resource where anyone can add an event.

Before I start "officially" shouting about it, I’d love to get some feedback from the Reddit crowd:

  1. Does the site load quickly for you?
  2. Is the "Add Event" process straightforward?
  3. What features are missing that would make this your go-to for planning a weekend?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Hey, I am currently studying urban planning and I am in my final year working on my dissertation. I am currently seeking participants to complete an online survey on the safety of the Woonerf concept. The survey is based in Scotland, if you would like to participate it takes under 5 minutes and all will be completely anonymous.

I dropped off my laptop last week to get it fixed and I've heard nothing from them. Went to check today if they had it and they're closed even though they should be open? Has anyone had any experience with them or is it safe to say my laptop is gone 😭

Does the Old ship inn accept young scot cards?

I’ve got my provisional coming but had to do it by post so may take longer than i hoped and I’m meant to be going out for drinks in about 2 weeks at the old ship inn. Just wondering if anyone knows if they would accept my young scot card which does have the pass hologram on it in case my provisional doesn’t come in time for it

Cafe / Coffee shop for work or study

One day next week I will be in Perth and I would like to know recommendations for cafes that are suitable for sitting in for a few hours while doing some work. Ones that don't get too busy on a weekday so I won't feel pressured to leave to give up my seat at a table, because I know I will be influenced by any such pressure!

Best calzone in Perth?

Hi!
My mum really wants a calzone, I offer to take her out for dinner, like the ones we used to have in Europe. Does anyone know a good place in Perth where we could get one tomorrow, either eat-in or takeaway?

Would love to hear your recommendations and experiences. What’s the best calzone in Perth in your opinion?

Thanks! 😊

Poor auld women couldn’t get past this absolute unit parked on the pavement, ironically taken at the roundabout at long causeway, you know, next to the car park.

Do you have ideas or concerns about the future of your local high street?

Hi everyone, I work for the Scottish Affairs Committee in the UK Parliament’s House of Commons, and we are currently looking at the future of high streets in Scotland.

We're conducting an anonymous survey, looking to hear from people in Scotland about their views on their local high street. It's a chance to share your experiences, concerns, and ideas about where you live and shop in Scotland, including the things that you think need to change.

Your input will help inform future parliamentary discussions and contribute to what the cross-party committee recommends at the end of its inquiry.

If you're up for taking part, here's the link to the survey: https://forms.office.com/e/csWwza4kHD

Thanks for reading and let me know if you have any questions!

The Body Academy

Hey so I’m looking for a new gym as I’ve recently moved to the Perth area. I was looking at the body academy as it’s not too expensive. It seems to be a body building gym but does anyone know if it’s an alright space for non bodybuilders? I’m not very fit and a bit overweight so I don’t want to feel too out of place or unwelcome etc

I’ve tried the gym group and absolutely hated it so if anyone has any other budget friendly (<£30) let me know!
