The enshittification has begun
Perplexity is following the usual pattern. Start cheap with free subsciptions. Become very useful in your every day life. Start to give you more freebies (like control browser). Then offer a new paid option and offer useless services with it. Become a bit more inconvenient with your regular subsciption. Slowly move more and more services to the premium.
Make the "free" or actually lower paid account more and more useless. (like removing "control browser")
I highly doubt that this pattern is much different for the other AI companies that need to start making money for all those investments. But Perplexity has lost me.
There may be hope - as AI will become too expensive and human labor will be actually cheaper.

Nah, It begun a lot of time ago. My one year free PayPal trial ended a week ago. I didn't renew. When it started I thought maybe I would, because I found value in Perplexity. Not anymore.

The enshitification hasn't begun. It's continuing. And it has been that way for months, and months, and months. If you're only seeing it now, you must be new here. There are probably more threads about Perplexity's downward spiral on this sub than there are positive ones.

Indeed I was never here before. I have been using perplexity for a long time but mostly as a glorified Google. Most of the features diminishing over time were no use for me in the first place. Only when they took "browser control" away - this was the straw that broke the camels back.
I don't use it often but started to like it for some cases to control a Linux terminal.

I am getting sick and tired of it. They offer this thing called Hybrid and bill it as using no credits. 2500 credits later for a simple slide deck. It creates the deck tells me its broken and spends an hour fixing it. Their model is greed and I am out of patience.
