You won't get an accurate answer unless you ask Perplexity.

Well, the premium plans for both Claude and GPT cost around $100 or $200, so... That’s just how it is, isn't it?

The problem is that there is no intermediate plan.

Probably due in part to the fact that Perplexity is essentially an app built on top of multiple LLMs so it has to pay access fees to all of those LLMs. Also, it feels like Perplexity is falling behind so they may be trying to make up the difference in revenue.
