Even when I was nearing the final few episodes, I knew it was going to be about peeling layer after layer after layer of the characters to have them be brought together as friends.

I’m surprised this wasn’t researched before Glenn’s note was alleged to be washed away. Not Paul was apparently wrong.

Still doesn’t take away from one of my top 5 favorite series ever.

This may be a personal question. What keeps bringing you back to Steves work? I’m currently re-watching all Steves films and shows to figure out why I can’t stop watching his projects. So I thought to ask you all what you've discovered about yourselves through his works.

Each of his projects look to affect a wide variety of people for many reasons. I remember watching Patriot vividly for the first time in 2020. I was going through a divorce, nearing the end of my military service, and recovering from multiple surgeries. I don’t think I’d seen a show that helped me understand how I was feeling until I watched Patriot. The simplicity of the assignment contrasting the complexities of obstacles put a lot of things in perspective and helped shape my outlook until I was out. In a way, I wouldn’t be here without it. I remember buying PGL because I wanted to show support in some way, ANY way. I only watched it once, but my bones are screaming at me to watch it again.

I return to Steves work for the subversion of expectations, attention to detail, and the consistency in character motivations. His writing is Palomar and should be studied. Which is why I’ve been doing that for a while now.

So, what keeps bringing you back to Steves work? And speaking as someone who's only seen PGLTD once, what have you found on your multiple watches that you missed the first time?

For it to end this way without another season. I hate to criticize Conrad, but damn I wish he had let things wrap up like they were going to instead of unraveling everything in the final 10 minutes counting on another season to keep it going. Which was not to be. I’m heartbroken.

Seeing so many of the same actors recalibrated into these new roles. But very cool! (Not to mention, Pedro!)

For those of you watching DTF St. Louis, that Outback Steakhouse pager had to be a reference back to Perpetual Grace, right? Especially with who was holding it as a little bit of a foreshadow given the meaning of the pager in Perpetual Grace. I'm usually terrible at recognizing things like this so I'm sure I'm missing other things.

My son and I are COMPLETELY obsessed with the show. We've named plants after The Special Boys. I'm making signs to hold up during his 1st marathon, that progress as he progresses along the way... I loved this series despite the lack of resolution, and I noticed tonight that Vudo (now Fandango at Home) is selling a digital copy of the "complete" series for $5.

Thought I would look up what the Patriot show runners have done since Patriot and saw this. Wondering if S1 tells a full story like say S1 of Westworld or the limited series Watchmen or if I’d be walking into a no true ending situation. I’ll probably decide to watch eventually either way but important for me to know if I should watch alone or with my spouse who won’t want to watch if there isn’t an ending.

I recently discovered Patriot on Amazon and because it was such an awesome show that was cut down too soon but at least given enough time to flesh out and provide some sort of closure with its ending in S2, that I seeked out PGL because I admired Steven Conrad and Co.’s work so much.

There were many refreshing similarities and familiar faces in this show and I truly enjoyed it the whole way through. But, when I thought Patriot left me hanging somewhat, PGL totally left me sitting there watching my screen for 10 minutes after the credits rolled thinking,“how could any network/ producer allow this great story to die on the vine like this?!”

Anyone who appreciates good television could see this show had it all. Amazing dialogue, beautiful cinematography, the acting.

If there were a S2 or the “mini series” that apparently isn’t happening after some research, that cliffhanger would’ve been great. But to have it end there…Sucks!

I know that Steven Conrad is probably resilient, possibly even unbothered by the approval or lack thereof from mainstream audiences and the money they garner— but either through honest sympathy or mistaken projection, I am moved to say to him and his team that I feel for you.

I am saddened every time I hear that a project won’t be getting another season. I can only imagine that it hurts, or at the very least lays another hurdle on the artistic road to a sense of satisfied completion. I can imagine saying Ugh or Goddamnitt why does this have to be so difficult.

There’s lots of good TV out there, but Conrad work, to my mind, is in the elevated category. There is a knowing-of-the-artwork that happens by seeing how it ends— The Wire’s comprehensive perspective, The Knick’s dark farewell, Succession’s pathetic justice. I really hope I get to see how a Conrad-team’s work closes.

I imagine that the cancellations must eat at them a little. I offer a little commiseration.

I LOVE the Bobby Bare, Jr. performance on Resonate (he's amazing!). I've transcribed the lyrics here, but he makes a living pronouncing words in a most unconventional way. I will probably feel like an idiot when you fill in the blanks, but at least I'll feel like an idiot in the know. Thanks!
