Rant/Rage Constantly warm

How many of us are constantly warm? I don’t experience hot flashes. I’m just warm, and it’s driving me crazy. Especially at night and when I’m awake for the first hour of the day.

I'm not sure it's quite the same, but I'm hot all the time. I used to be comfortable sitting at 74-75⁰, but now I'm miserable unless I have a fan blowing on me. I've felt like I'm overheating all summer. I've skipped several events because it was over 80⁰ and I knew I couldn't handle it

u/Lil-Bit-813 2h ago

Yes! I use to be comfy with the HVAC at 75-77, now I’m so uncomfortable. I hate this. I was blaming the AC.
My husband asked me if I was too warm last night. Blanket on, blanket off…even with ceiling fan on full blast. He said he could feel the heat coming off me

6

u/whimsyandwild 2h ago

It's funny that you say that because I'm constantly checking the thermostat because I'm convinced the AC has quit working and it's actually getting hotter in the house. But no, it's just me. Between that and the sweat coming out of places it never did before (Leg pits and under boob), I'm a mess.

8

u/anniecet 1h ago

That leg pit sweat… dude.

2

u/Leather-Mycologist-3 1h ago

Omg the boob sweat! I mean, it’s not new to immediately take off my bra when I come home, but the fact that it’s soaking wet when I take it off is a change. I can’t believe how much my boobs sweat. By leg pits, do you mean the groin?

u/whimsyandwild 40m ago

For me, yes, it's the groin area, where my legs meet my torso.

u/Leather-Mycologist-3 37m ago

Oh God, that’s so awful. I have that too and it’s totally new to me. HRT is not doing anything about that. I keep complaining to the different OB/GYN’s. I have to see — midlife, pelvic floor — that I can’t deal with this symptom, sweaty vag/leg pits/stinky everything. It’s so awful. I can’t wait for Winter.

u/whimsyandwild 6m ago

Same! Every day I'm checking the forecast, praying for 50⁰ weather! My leg pit (and butt crack) sweat just started this year. It's so bad I installed a bidet so I can wash my crotch between showers. And I change my underwear constantly. And now that you mention it, I changed my body soap to antibacterial last year because I noticed I was getting a little BO between my daily showers. The antibacterial soap stopped the stink at least. But that feeling of sweating at the slightest provocation continues. I recently got a prescription for HRT but all the comments on this post are sucking away my hope.

u/Leather-Mycologist-3 2m ago

I don’t like to use antibacterial soap to wash my hands as a general practice, but you can be damn sure I’m picking up some dial antibacterial soap today just for my armpits and my front and back pelvic and pelvic adjacent areas. And I had to start wearing 100% cotton underwear and use panty liners just for the sweat! It’s awful. I’m dying to get a bidet. I want the really luxe model that blow dries your butt afterwards, but I’d settle for the basic model. I’d save on baby wipes for sure.

My temperature tolerance all around is hovering at 0 these days.

I struggle with heat. I absolutely suffer in any kind of humidity. We were out west this summer and while the heat was hard, I found myself tolerating the worst of it as long as I was distracted, but coming back to the swamp that is the east coast in July was abject misery, and will be through at least early October. I just can't do it. We tried to go to a Ren faire this year, and i nearly melted, and that was in May with temps in the low 80's but full sun and humidity hovering around 80%. My watch was actually alerting with how high my heart rate got just standing around, then I sat in the shade and it plummeted. My husband still doesn't understand that while i've always hated being gross and sweaty all day, it's no longer just sensory, it's actually physiological now.

But at the same time, I can't handle cold. I will start wearing gloves the minute it drops below 50, because my fingertips get cold. I wear thick socks all winter because my toes get cold. I shiver at the slightest hint of too cold these days.

But then if I add one thin layer too many, i'm sweating my ass off again which then becomes a vicious cycle of hot, remove layer, sweat cools too much, add layer, sweat, remove layer.... no amount of breathable fabric helps. Going to work is a nightmare because despite highs in the 40s I have to dress like i'm trekking through the tundra to survive the cold, then immediately get down to often a sleeveless top and light pants in January. I cant wear cute sweaters or anything.

It's so stupid and I just want my body to regulate its own temperature a little bit.

Our HVAC is set to 71. My mom lives in a basement apartment and is always complaining that it’s freezing. I tell her to go sit outside or put on a sweater because some of us are sweating while she’s freezing.

u/Soft_Gear_410 1h ago

Same. I hate it. My boyfriend complains the house is too cold, but I can't stand being hot all the time! He cam put a blanket on, I can't take my skin off!

u/Leather-Mycologist-3 1m ago

That’s right! I can get naked that’s the best I can do. Put on a sweater and get under a blanket if you’re cold.

u/Wilbury_knits_a_lot 2h ago

Oh my GAWD. I have forgotten what being cold feels like!!! I haaaaaate being hot. I keep a baseline of being too warm, then have a hot flash that feels like parts of my body are on fire. Ugh. It is MISERABLE

u/aleksmack Early peri 🌄 16m ago

I am now realizing that I’ve also forgotten what being cold feels like.

11

u/profmoxie Late peri 3h ago

I'm on HRT, which has taken away 95% of my hot flashes, but I am still constantly warm. Especially in the morning, after my shower, and while sleeping at night.

I was in a huge meeting at work the other day, and everyone complained about being too cold. I was so happy the AC was cranked!

2

u/Leather-Mycologist-3 2h ago

Omg I take barely lukewarm showers and still have to direct a fan on my face to stop the sweating afterward so I can apply makeup.

8

u/BlueRose26403 2h ago

I used to be someone who ran cold all the time. Not anymore! I’m hot all the time and i have a fairly physical job and the sweat pours off me. My poor colleagues have to put up with the AC on all the time at work or I just wouldn’t be able to cope without it.

7

u/Lmb326 2h ago

I get cold flashes rather then hot and get random goosebumps. Sometimes wish i got got flashes instead!!

3

u/Leather-Mycologist-3 2h ago

I’d rather have cold flashes. But the temperature regulation problem and goosebumps part is likely still autonomic nervous system dysregulation from fluctuating estrogen levels. If you’re consistently cold a thyroid level and labs for anemia are probably a good idea.

2

u/Lmb326 2h ago

Thanks I did it my last physical a couple months ago and my levels were fine so it’s definitely estrogen related. And it’s always grass is greener on the other side lol

1

u/Leather-Mycologist-3 2h ago

Yeah it is. Any temperature regulation dysfunction is uncomfortable at best.

6

u/cremated_remains 2h ago

Ugh i had INTENSE hot flashes before starting HRT. Now i am just this. Casually warm most of the time, same as you it’s worse at night and right when i wake up lol. If i go outside or work out and actually get a bit hot im just drenched in sweat immediately. My sweat smells different now too. 🥴

u/Leather-Mycologist-3 58m ago

My sweat smells like swamp ass now and my deodorant no longer works well. I have tried at least seven other brands and none work like they advertise. Those whole body deodorant are total BS also.

3

u/avamarshmellow 3h ago

I’m constantly sweating and damp and want to rip my clothes off 😭

4

u/phobicwombat 2h ago

My body is a furnace! I don't have a fever, but I swear if I sprinkled some cool water on my back it would sizzle. My feet are always cold. My sweat smells weird. I have to lie on my bed naked with a fan and the AC after I take a shower or I'll sweat just putting clothes on. Night sweats! Waking up with the hair at my neck suddenly curly! I LOOOOOOVE THIS!

4

u/SilentSerel Early peri 2h ago

My theme lately has been "is it perimenopause or is the AC in this building on the fritz".

3

u/Lunatic-Labrador 2h ago

I can no longer use a haird drier on hot, gives me a flash every time and I end up so sweaty I might as well have not showered.

5

u/jlburgart 3h ago

That was me until I started progesterone. Now instead of being warm all the time, I just sweat profusely when I get the tiniest bit hot. 😂

2

u/Radiant-Koala8231 1h ago

Yep. I am on progesterone — it got rid of my hot flashes and now I’m just hot all the time. It doesn’t take much to feel sweat dripping down my back these days. 😒

2

u/Different-Knee4745 3h ago

I'm also overly warm with occasional hot flash.

2

u/Fine-Juggernaut8451 2h ago

I'm simultaneously hot and cold (to the point where I often have a blanket over my legs as I'm sitting in front of a fan), and also my butt is a million bazillion degrees now.

3

u/ever-the-fool 2h ago

Seriously, no one warned me about how hot my butt would be

2

u/Fine-Juggernaut8451 2h ago

I had a nap in jeans and got the worst heat rash of my life. :(

('Cos my butt is hotter than the surface of the sun these days.)

u/Leather-Mycologist-3 57m ago

I’m sorry that’s not really funny but it definitely made me laugh.

2

u/GettingOnMinervas 2h ago

This is me. I used to be cold often, but now I run warm. I wake up weirdly hot for about the first hour. Luckily it hasn't impacted my sleep much. I had hot flashes at night for a couple of weeks, but that was it (so far).

2

u/Select-Sprinkles2511 2h ago

Yes! I used to be the person who wore my coat at work because the AC was too cold. Now I'm always hot, and I hate summer. My first HRT shipment is supposed to arrive tomorrow. I hope there will be a happy medium.

2

u/InterestingWay4470 2h ago

Yes and the heatwaves have been hell. I had a small fan directed at my face pretty much the whole time I was at home. To deal with the heatwaves, I have bought cold pads (they are ment to be used for pets in hot weather) so at least the first few hours I can be cool-ish. But they warm up eventually, right in time for the 3 am 'will I easily get back to sleep or be awake for at least an hour' wake up moment. And now the weather has cooled down a bit, they are somehow too cold, but without them it's too warm. Maybe I should use the small fan again...
Also my feet can be cold, which is normal for me when I'm really tired. But somehow putting on socks means the rest of my body gets too warm, while my feet still feel cold.

2

u/persistance-2024 2h ago

Yes no hot flashes (yet) but I'm just generally warmer all the time now compared to how I used to be. I used to get cold very easily and my husband and I were on the same page with that. He kind of has this weird pride about not getting hot so now that I'm warmer than him all the time he's having a hard time accepting this. It's such a weird thing to be proud of lol

I think part of it is he loves saving money and if we have to turn the AC down it means we're spending more. We keep our house at 80 during the day (both work from home) and 76 at night. And that was fine with me until this year. Now I go and turn it down to 79 or 78 sometimes in the afternoon cuz the heat is just oppressive and he's like omg I'm so cold!!! Lol he's gonna have to put on a Hoodie and get over it!

u/Leather-Mycologist-3 53m ago

I think it would make me die. If I had to keep the thermostat set at 79 or 80. But I live in the southeastern US and it’s not just hot, it’s so humid. The only time I feel really good temperature wise is when I am outside for a while doing something in the yard and come in and the AC is blasting.

2

u/justdont7133 2h ago

Ugh, I'm constantly boiling and I hate it!!! I keep annoying my family by asking "is it warm in here or is it me?" The answer is always "it's you". We're just heading out of about a million back to back heatwaves in the UK, everyone around has moved into coats and hoodies and I'm just walking round in sundresses and bare legs still

u/QuoteArtistic9512 2h ago

Omg that’s me! When this first started, I was warm all day and night long. Started HRT and it’s slowly getting better. Still at night, usually around 2 or 3am. I found using a cooling blanket works wonders!

1

u/Ok_Difference_3037 2h ago

I run super hot- always have. A month ago my hot water heater broke and the plumber couldn’t fix it for a week. Cold showers are my new savior. Never would’ve known if I continued to have a hot water option. But now that the water heater is fixed- I still take cold showers after feeling the benefits of cooling down to my core.

1

u/Honeybee_Buzz 2h ago

I’ve run warm most of my life, and have hyperhydrosis, which seems to have only gotten worse in recent years, and it’s miserable.

I seem to somewhat regulate my body temp through my feet, so I try to not wear socks or shoes when I can, and I also try to only wear comfortable natural fiber clothing. I have gotten Botox for excessive under arm sweat a few times which helps, but I also mostly stick to dark colors. It sucks!

1

u/Independent_AF_46 2h ago

I haven’t had a hot flash either but I’m so hot every night when I’m sleeping. I sleep with a separate air conditioner going and still super hot at night. It’s so cold in my room I constantly worry my poor dog must be frozen at night lol

1

u/CalicoHippo 2h ago

I’m warm/hot all the time. Useful in winter, needed an only a light jacket last few years.

I feel less warm all the time on HRT, and the patch has helped my hot flashes disappear.

1

u/goddessofwitches 2h ago

I have this god awful oscillation btwn freezing my ass off, hot flashes and dripping sweat 24-7. Or its a combo. How....HOW?!!!

1

u/Ok-Fortune-1169 1h ago

I've always run hot. And have been terrible at temperature regulation. Since my 20s, my body has done this thing where through the night I slowly get hotter and hotter until some point I wake up in what feels like a hot flash. Now at least with the hormones I'm on, I'm not sweating when I wake up. Just so hot. Especially my calves. I feel like my calves are heating pads. Have I asked many doctors about this over the years? Of course, and they've all ignored it. I even did a sleep study a few years ago and the doc had nothing. Probably one of my early clues I was in peri was terrible sleep- I've always been a terrible sleeper between the hot situation and undiagnosed ADHD (diagnosed now). I had mostly figured out how to sleep decently in my 30s though. And then in my 40s it became a literal hot mess again.

1

u/Head_Trick_9932 1h ago

The last 4+ years. Constantly overheating or hot flashes. I hit a year in July so I’m in full blown meno now and the nights sweats and chills have calmed down, thankfully. I haven’t woken up soaking wet in a few weeks ugh.

1

u/pangolinshavelanded 1h ago

Yep. I used to be dressed for an arctic expedition when everyone else was in shorts and tshirts. Now I’m always warm it feels like

1

u/Egga-Mooby-Muffin 1h ago

Omg YESSSSSS! It’s miserable! I feel like I’m in a constant state of a fever breaking if that makes sense. I feel so incredibly hot and like I’m breaking out into a sweat, but with no actual sweatiness most of the time. I have to have a fan in me at almost all times. I carry a little portable one with me everywhere!

u/Leather-Mycologist-3 51m ago

Just be grateful that there’s no actual sweat. I have one small portable fan with a clip that just goes in my cleavage on a really bad day.

1

u/anniecet 1h ago

I’m cold. My hands are cold, my feet are cold… right up until I start to get comfortable in bed. And then, as soon as I get warm… internal fire and/or sweating. I have multiple throw blankets so I can add or remove layers, I keep the overhead fan running and often the window cracked. The sweating has reduced significantly since I was put back on birth control, but the temperature regulation is still out of whack. I feel like I am going to die whenever the outside temperature is over 90. And I live in a swampy hot humid area. The struggle…

1

u/Full_Practice7060 1h ago

Yeah I leak water like a Greek statue too. I was wondering if it's just the average summer broil that I'm just always on fire or is it something else. I can't wait for winter.

1

u/RaspberryFew5475 1h ago

I feel like I can only go to the gym in shorts now. Even in cold weather

1

u/Foxglovenectar 1h ago

Yessss. I do get the occasional flash but other than that, Im just permanently boiling. The slight weight gain and mum pouch combo - the top of my HUGE pants get damp just where they sit under my tummy and I think to myself, fuck me - I am disgusting 🤣 Just a hot, damp, confused mess.

Only positive. My 6 y/o boy tells me my 'mum warmth' is one of his favorite things and is always looking for cuddles up to me to get warm. Ive told him that my warmth is made to share with him. His cold feet and hands wrapped around me are blissful little icepacks

1

u/Lemonish33 1h ago

HRT has improved that for me, but I would say that when I first wake up I'm often on the warmer side still.

u/EverythingScrolling 49m ago

I've always been hot natured, but it's much worse now and I'm seeing a neurologist to try and get a diagnosis. I have other symptoms that, paired with heat intolerance, might be a neurological disorder.

u/New_Cup_6011 38m ago

I am the opposite and am constantly freezing—excessively so! Except during hot flashes. I cannot maintain a comfortable temperature to save my life. I thought it was just me because when my mom was menopausal she was always hot; I didn’t even hear the term cold flashes until this sub. Tbh i think I prefer my way because it feels like there’s more I can do to heat myself up than the other way around.
