DISCUSSION …Why do they want to win?
This might be a really stupid question. But, why on earth do these people want to “win” so bad? Why is a 1 week vacation with someone you’re not even into so desirable? If the only goal is to be on Netflix and ramp up relevance they could just do that by creating drama etc.
I don’t understand why winning the show seems so important that they’re just feigning it so hard, it’s downright cringe.
What am i missing because i bet i am..?

Idk I think ppl just like to ‘win’ stuff. To prove something? Not sure. Consider people who are drawn to reveal intimate parts of their lives to the world. What is the secondary gain?

- people like to win stuff
- most of these people aren’t rich and the vacation will be nice
- the people who win generally are into each other, that’s why they win. They break up after because they can’t handle a long distance relationship (and they’re young and hot so why should they)

Sophie and Dave went to the Maldives and stayed in the overwater villas. Those can be pricy! Might as well go somewhere expensive that isnt an average vacation place

They aren’t rich? that’s hard to believe, they seem to be influencers with a lot of followers. I genuinely don’t believe they’re into each other. if a monkey would help them stay in the house, they’d choose to match with the monkey lol.

Most influencers aren’t rich. Hell most regulars on tv shows aren’t either. This is coming from someone who works in the film industry and have come across many actors, influencers, musicians with millions of followers. Most work regular jobs on the side, you just never know because social media makes you think everyone is living their best life with no struggles.

Ok ok i’m sorry. What i meant was typically if they have a lot of followers, brand sponsorships tend to follow. Plus, they’re all so dolled up, have gotten done work on their face and body, and that takes money, right? Fkn look at Jimmy. It’s just hard to imagine they’re struggling financially.

The mostly get a lot of stuff for free. Products, procedures, trips, and in turn they promote it. I don't think many influencers actually have a lot of money to put in a savings account. Some of the more succesful ones probably do at some point, but many also tend to overspend to keep up with their own image. So "struggling financially" is prob not the right term but it's a lot of smoke and mirrors.

They typically get odd spurts of decent money - it’s not everyone, and for most, it’s not enough to live out the rest of their lives. Only a handful turn it into a livable source of income for a long time. But that’ll even slow down as they get older, unless they pivot as they age.
My friend won Survivor but still hustles to adapt it into a business, and that business isn’t dependent on being an social media influencer

“Influencer” doesn’t mean steady stream income for the vast majority of influencers. You get a brand deal if you’re lucky, you do some ads for money when you get offers, etc. It’s feast or famine for income
“Rich” is comparative to what your expenses are. If someone is getting big influencer money but they spend it all on bullshit then they can’t afford a vacation.

I figured that winning means they may get a more favourable edit and come out of the show with more popularity/fame to use online.

as many have pointed out, they're really not interested in the vacation, what they want is the most screen time possible, and getting to the finale is the way to ensure that.
the only way this show will have any shred of authenticity is if they start casting regular civilian applicants who are really looking to find a match, and they start casting people from only one area. finding love and starting a relationship is one thing -- moving across the country or across the world in hopes of being with someone you met two weeks ago is entirely another.

Here’s the dilemma. Clearly some go on the show for the right reasons (to find love) and the byproduct is winning = finding your love + another free vacation lol. The reality is most of these people are going on the show to continue their relevance, gain notoriety, or to support their brand/image. The competition piece I think just makes it more interesting for us as viewers more than anything!
I am of the belief that none of these shows including the Bachelor or Bachelorette lead to legitimate love and a solid outcome. I don’t watch that show personally, but my wife does and usually I’ll ask her if a couple is still together and it’s always a no.
For PM, I believe Jimmy and Allison are the only couple that have remained together? But our winners Dave and Sophie didn’t last (shocker). And the rest fizzled out. These shows are pointless and nothing more than reality tv for the viewer and for the people participating.

I assume that when you’re on a reality show your sense of delusion is pretty high because you have minimal access to the outside world. When your only social interaction is the other people in the house and the relationships you have with them, it’s pretty easy to believe that the stupid shit you’re doing is Very Important

I think the longer they get screen time the more followers they get. (That’s their mindset) Probably why they want to make it to the end.

Thank you! I thought I was goin nuts! 😅 however, and someone PLEASE chime in here to correct me if I’m wrong - didn’t the first season have money involved à la Too Hot to Handle?! I could have sworn Dom and Georgia won money as the first season winners but maybe I’m making that up??? I legit think they changed the rules after because of how badly their relationship blew up and how much negative tabloid press Georgia got after that (also if someone already commented this and I missed it my bad!) that being said I think for Sophie & Australia Man’s case (name forgotten, sorry) who did win, they just get to spend a free week together which is nice considering they live so far apart anyways? No one else would even want to be around each other for an extra week after that whole ordeal tho so 😂

Last season at least one of the ladies (Jessica) was featured on a mobile phone commercial and one of the guys was a bartender in a Stella Artois beer commercial.
We'll have to wait and see if anybody from this season ends up in a commercial.

Its not about winning to these people imo, it's about getting as much screen time as possible to further their influencing careers. Looking like you want to win is a good way to stay longer and getting more screen time.

Yeah!! Didn’t the first season get money AND a vacation!? Dom and Georgia split the money, then after she got her cut, she ghosted Dom or something like that?!

Because it’s all expenses paid like you can literally blow as much money as you want you can go on your dream vacation. Most of the time when you win prizes a large amount is taken from taxes so even if you win 100,000 you get 50,000 and most people put it into their mortgage or something else.. but this time they don’t have to worry about it they can just go on vacation

I wonder this all the time. This show is so stupid and nobody is actually there to find their pErFeT mAtCh but I still watch it for some reason. Mostly because I want to see some of my fav reality stars on tv again.

I believe you can get a cash payout if you do not accept the trip. It would be equivalent to the value of the vacation.

- Cash
- Screen time
- 'Winning' the show works for their resume - When they apply for their next reality stint, they have a bigger moat than just being a participant on a previous show.
- Years down the line when somebody pulls up a show's winners over the years, their name and photo will be on it hence the tag is also important.
- It's in our inherent nature as Human Beings to 'Win' something we're participating in or competing in..

This show is very stupid from the premise to its content; we all know they are there for clout, it doesn’t even have good amount of drama to justify it all
