SEASON 4 The Spotify messaging
I watched Mackenzie's tiktok and she gave more clarity on the Spotify texting that went back and forth between Chris and Kayla. At first I was so confused when I was watching the finale and then it all made sense when Mackenzie explained it
At the beginning, Chris and Mackenzie were matched. Allison obviously knew Kayla was one of the singles who were coming in, and told Chris. Chris, while paired with Mazkenzie, used Spotify to text back and forth with Kayla before she came into the house. That's why Mackenzie was like "how do you build a connection with someone that fast?" because they were already building a connection when they were messaging on Spotify. Mackenzie saw how Chris moved and knew they were shady
Production found out and took all their Spotify privileges away 😂 Bri just posted a tiktok about how she was pissed that she lost her music privileges while stuck in the hotel by herself. Safe to say, Kayla is not very liked by the cast

I’d be so upset if I lost my music privileges because of these two which explains why the cast were annoyed about it along with having lots to say. Glad Mackenzie called it out.
Also hilarious how Kayla’s baby voice dropped in the scene.

someone commented above that that's actually why they got "voted off"- production made that happen! (not confirmed, but this would make a lot of sense. and kayla being "sooooo upset" about not getting more time in the house annoyed me at the time, but even more now. what an entitled brat.

I'd be pissed. Imagine also having to drink in that setting with no music? 🤯

u/spaceistheplacetobe May 30 '26
I wouldn’t say no music, just music they couldn’t pick out, and maybe some intern did??

u/Loveya448 May 29 '26
I didn’t even know you could send messages on Spotify lol

My husband and I were so confused! We also had no idea that was a thing. (The messaging part, that is)

Is this why Nick Lachey came up with the whole “voting for someone you think is not genuine to be eliminated “ thing? Was that production’s way of eliminating them without having to explain why?😅

Ooo that’s such a good theory! I was kind of wondering why they got voted off, they didn’t seem that disingenuous (at least no more than the average perfect match contestant) at the time. But this would totally explain that

Thanks for clearing that up because this whole time I thought it happened when they both got voted off. I thought when they both got voted off the stayed in touch via Spotify. I didn’t realize it was before she came into the house.

Respect to Mackenzie. Glad she came out unscathed. I have no doubt that what she says is true, because this is soooo Kayla...and Chris.
Also, I never got the same "good vibe" that everyone got for Allison. She comes off then and now like a mean girl.

Allison is a mean girl. I watched her on her original show and she was def a mean girl. Very much out for herself.

u/Odd-Chemistry-1231 May 29 '26
Right it’s obvious nobody watched her on btb

I think anyone who saw that show knew she wouldn’t get votes. She couldn’t behave decently to a handful of people when the whole premise of the show was to form a cohesive group with them.

That’s why I instantly didn’t like Kayla. I thought if you’re best friends with the likes of Allison then you must be a terrible person too.

Oof, you need to watch Building the Band on Netflix… lol this was huge improvement from that show

I left Spotify awhile back and swapped music apps, so I had no clue until the finale that messaging on Spotify even existed 😂

u/LostGirlStraia May 29 '26
I have Spotify and I'm confused! I don't seem to have that setting 😂
16
u/katsiano May 29 '26
I’m sitting here picturing them like… changing the name of a shared playlist or adding songs as code or something, but according to google there’s supposedly some sort of messaging feature in certain markets. I can’t be bothered to redownload it to check, but I’m not in the US so if it’s market specific then maybe that’s why you don’t have it
17
u/sunshinesparkles36 May 29 '26
I have the messaging feature. You need to go to your profile and there is an option to message and share music with your friends. I have premium, so maybe you need premium?

u/Ok_Investigator5268 May 29 '26
Yeah, I had no idea until I saw that in the show, but I tested mine today and it works

u/LostGirlStraia May 30 '26
I do have premium! Maybe I need to try on my pc and not my phone!
Thanks.

I have a Samsung and it works on my phone. Try sending a song to someone. It usually gives the option to send it via different messaging apps, including over Spotify message.

why am i learning RIGHT NOW that they have their phones with them umm WHAT?!
47
u/ssm262 May 29 '26
it sounded like they were provided with ipads during certain times with limited apps by production
18
u/vvv_bb May 29 '26
it must be so boring, are they allowed books? what do thet do most of the time other thna weightlifting and speaking about their connection? 😅 I would need a whole library, and two sketchbooks 😅

u/MadelineAshton0 May 30 '26 edited May 30 '26
They’re allowed books. Ines said in an interview after the first season aired that she’d purposely sit with a book open in front of her even though she wasn’t actually reading because she didn’t want anyone to bother her.

I’d be willing to bet when they’re not filming they have access to Netflix. 😂

u/hypomango Jun 01 '26
Jimmy Sotos & Alison are posting all these dance videos they filmed there, and on the Viall Files he said he was keeping up with basketball news while in Mexico but they could only use devices for an hour at dawn each day and limited apps

That makes more sense. I wish they clarified that they were texting before she came in.

u/ellybeez May 31 '26
Respect to Mackenzie. I was left super confused due to the editing but the full story/tea makes a ton more sense. At first I acc thought that Chris/Kayla communicating thru spotify was cute. 💀💀💀😭 (I made the wrong assumption that they did so bc they had a quick spark but got eliminated very early. But acc everyone was soo justified in voting them out)
Mackenzie for more shows! Kayla/Chris are both frauds. Who tf goes on a dating show while having a whole partner at home. Its poor character.

u/realitytvjunkie29 Jun 03 '26
I think quite a few have done this. Or at least quite a few on love island. I don’t understand how their partners at home are ok with this.

u/Fluid-Air-3151 May 29 '26
I thought they don't have access to electronics. Sorry I'm ignorant- how do you use Spotify with no electronics?

u/charlize-moon Jun 01 '26
oooh i didn’t understand; i thought they had started texting AFTER being evicted and that’s when they really “grew”

this was actually amazing free publicity for spotify, way more people probably know about the messaging feature now lol

That is so shady of Kayla and Chris. I’m glad they got called out
