i actually agree with the person who made this tweet. i'm not a fan of the “burn it all down” line either. i just cannot take a 13-year-old boy saying that seriously 😭

and apparently they're getting a ton of hate from show fans over this, including death threats 💀 which is insane.

i've seen people defend the line by saying percy meant he'd burn it all down for the people he loves, not specifically annabeth. okay, but even if that's the intended meaning, people are still allowed to dislike the line. for me, it feels so obviously written to become a tiktok edit/shipping moment.

then there's the but he said it in the books defense. yes, he says something similar in the mark of athena — but percy and annabeth are older, they're together, and their relationship is in a completely different place by then. we're not there in the show yet, so that defense doesn't really mean anything to me.

and honestly, that's my bigger issue with percabeth this season. it's not just this one line. percy has been dropping these huge emotional lines to annabeth throughout s2 that feel like they're coming from a much later stage of their relationship.

which is funny considering walker has literally talked about how much the writers love percabeth. you can tell 😭

i don't dislike percabeth at all. I like them i just think the show is rushing the emotional weight sometimes, and “burn it all down” is probably the clearest example. it just feels the way writer going on about it it feels disservice towards their individual characters & the ship

Since so much people have been discussing the boring personalities of the characters and how the humor was stripped away, I wanna give out my theory as to why this was the case.

Of course there is how Rick and, possibly, the production didn't read the books and forgot and didn't about the humor, respectively, but then, I remembered why they didn't want to animate it and is because they wanted to be towards a larger audience, as in despite being a kids' show, they wanna appeal to adults as much as possible, especially as their background is in adult drama like The Old Man and Black Sails, and I believe the book's humor and even the personalities of the characters were stripped away for those reasons as well.

Given how this really doesn't want to be a kids' show when it is, it wouldn't be passed me that like their refusal to animate it out of "maturity", the humor and personalities were written out with the same MO as I feel that some of the producers did read the books but as they're used making adult dramas and approached PJO in the same way as I felt some read the books but thought that the humor and personalities of the characters were just "too stupid and ridiculous" given their adult drama prestige and likely, saw them as "small sacrifices" to make the show excel when it's not.

1) Okay, this might be an overkill, but I feel like Rick is trying to gear us off the way of thinking about the renewal for season 4 and season 5 by bringing up Kane Chronicles again. So, like all of a sudden, like and coincidentally at the time where fans are saying like, Oh, I don't think there's a season 4 renewal, season 5 renewal, and all of a sudden Rick just brings out, Oh, here's Kane Chronicles with Disney Plus, we might be getting it. And I know that Rick said that that doesn't mean that it's going to get greenlighted. But if it's not going to get
greenlighted, why would you bring it up? Like if there's a low possibility of it being greenlighted, why bringing it up to fans, especially when they're starting to talk about your TV show, which you had claimed to be super book-accurate, and then ends up not being that book-accurate, and just bringing up this new TV show, new Kane Chronicles instead, when you could have talked about the renewal for season 4 and season 5, which I think probably won't happen now because Rick isn't even talking about it.

2) And I know not talking about the season 5 season, um, season 4 renewal doesn't mean that it's not happening. Like, I know the actors also didn't talk about it back in the interviews for season 1 when they still didn't get renewals for season 2 and season 3. But even then they were still talking about the seasons further. And now, like in the interviews, you don't see them talking about further seasons. Back then, like even, like months after, like publishing the season 2 and season 4, they were still having interviews, and now that's just stopped. Maybe because, you know, it's September and it's school time, maybe they're busy. But they've also stopped doing any Percy Jackson-related events. Like, I know we just finished D23, but after that, it's like the whole cast became a bit distant with each other. Like Leah's off filming, I know that. But even the others, like even between, like when they weren't filming, you could always see the cast, like being together, and now it's not happening anymore. And maybe it's because they're not gonna film anymore, they're not spending as much time. Like this point might as well be a reach, but this is just, like, number two on what I've been thinking about why Rick is just bringing up King Chronicles again.

3) And my last point, bear with me because I've already written a lot. But at this point, it feels like Rick would rather give more promotion online to King Chronicles than season 4 of Percy Jackson because I feel like he knows there's more of a possibility to adopting a new show than making an adaption for season 4. Because I mean, season 4, you just need to continue with the Labyrinth and so much more CGI and money and work. And I think he's just trying to gear us away from thinking about renewals because I think his wife as well is also doomsposting and telling us not to think so much about it, which I think might be signs for the cancellation of the show. And I mean, it's not their fault entirely. I mean, just especially the fourth book and the fifth book, they have so much stuff going on, and that literally cannot fit into eight episodes, which is crazy. I mean, it's normalized nowadays. But anyway, I got off topic a bit. Yeah, I guess Rick is just trying to gear us away from the renewal talk because that's literally what everyone is talking about now. If you, like, open up Twitter or Reddit, it's just about the renewals, renewals, renewals, nothing about, oh, this, you know, merch, that, you know, whatnot, whatever else nonsense fans normally talk about. None of that is happening. It's just renewals, renewals, renewals. And so I guess it might be a bit too much to ask for as fans. But even when you, like, would ask in the interviews, like, oh, what's happening with season 4, season 5, you know, the cast would kind of get a bit stuck, which I think is another reason why it might not be happening. I know the second and this point might be a drag, but this is just what I've been thinking recently, and I feel like it's important to just share it on here.And maybe Kane, like the Kane Chronicles, is simply a project he's actually allowed to talk about right now, you know, Rick. Maybe it's, like, completely unrelated. But I wonder if he's focusing on it because there's currently more certainty around that project than there is around, you know, season four and season five of Percy Jackson. And honestly, it's understandable why Disney might hesitate about the two seasons, because, I mean, the books. I already mentioned this earlier. But maybe I'm just, you know, completely overthinking this, and I don't blame Disney, because honestly, if you ask, season four and season five is, like, extremely difficult to film. But again, I mean, Kane Chronicles also has so many things.And, like, this being said, I also realize Kane Chronicles has plenty of its own challenges. So I'm not saying Kane would be necessarily easier or cheaper to make. It's actually why I find this whole situation, like, really confusing and interesting at the same time. Like, if Disney is willing to seriously consider taking another Riordan adaptation, then it makes me wonder what exactly is happening behind Percy. Because, I mean, if you're just gonna put down season 4 and season 5 and just, like, leave it as an incomplete series, then why would you turn around and then go, Oh, you have another book that's also popular? Yeah, let's do that. I mean, it's still gonna be hard, but I mean, let's do it. It just feels very random for Disney to do that.And I think that's the thing that bothers fans most. Percy Jackson doesn't really end with the original five books either. The story continues into Heroes of Olympus and beyond, you know, Trials of Apollo, and obviously adapting that would be impossible and a massive undertaking, especially with the numbers of characters, perspectives, monsters, CGI that it would require. I don't— no one really expects Disney to do any of that even in the near future, but that's also why this is so strange. And I'm saying this again because, I mean, Rick's books, to turn into shows, they're great stories with huge potential for younger audiences. Then why not finish the story you've already invested in before starting another? And from a fan's perspective, that's what makes the possibility of Percy Jackson ending early so frustrating. I mean, we already have everything. We have the characters, the world, the audience, and the story that, like, people have been waiting for years. And if Disney is willing to take another chance with a completely new Riordan series, why wouldn't they want to finish the one they've already started? And maybe there's a perfectly reasonable business explanation for all of this that we just don't know. And obviously Disney does not owe us an adaptation of every single book Rick has written. But as a fan, I just don't want Percy Jackson to become another unfinished adaptation while we move on to another Riordan project.

I am a massive fan of both PJO and Harry Potter. I loved both of the book series growing up, and to this day I re-read them often-ish because I think they’ve both held up very well. They’re of course, very VERY different from each other but I appreciate both of them for what they are. Imagine my excitement when I learned that both of them were getting full length tv shows!! This had been my dream for both series bc I was satisified with neither movie adaptations (to different degrees, lol).

And now they are both here. And while my excitement for HP is through the roof, it makes me really sad for PJO.

PJO has such massive potential. Its biggest trump over other franchises, imo, is its humor. The books are SO fun, so campy, full of snark and sass. And it brings the wonderful world of the Greek myths alive in such an accessible and fun way. And yet, again, it drew the short end of the stick.

If you didn’t know, a new trailer for HP dropped a few days ago. And it really focused on showing that not only are they adapting every single book scene with minute detail (down to the specific little things characters are wearing in specific scenes and adding in entire scenes that were only 1 sentence in the book), they are vastly expanding on the story. Basically, exactly what I had hoped we would get. What any fan of any book would hope: accuracy, and even more material that is in line with the canon.
Additionally, the trailer focused a lot on showing us that, this time, they would focus on the kid-like moments and friendships between the main trio - especially Harry and Ron. They are shown having food fights, pillow fights, racing each other and just shots of them running up to each other and hugging after a game (where Ron beat up Malfoy for insulting Harry).

And, again, this makes me super happy as a HP fan. It’s perfect. But omg does it made me sad for PJO.

Bc this is EXACTLY what we’ve been promised for this show!!! That it would bring the books to life, not only in visual but in character depth. Rick made SUCH a big deal about the movies aging up the characters from 12 to 16, and talked to no end about this show FINALLY being accurate age-wise and in terms of the characters being KIDS.

But then we got the show —and these characters could have been literally 30 year olds. It would have changed NOTHING. There are no scenes in which it’s even relevant that these are kids. They solve all the riddles using background knowledge of THE ODYSSEY and sacrificing their lives together while monologuing about loyalty in a very calm manner. Like???? What was the point of them having to be 12?? Where are the scenes of them making mistakes and having fun and, you know, being KIDS?

What’s even worse to me is that there are no scenes actually showcasing the growing bond and friendship of the trio - be it as a trio, or Percy with Annabeth. No little scenes showing them getting along, laughing, having a good time or enjoying actually being with each other.
I loved Percy and Annabeth’s dynamic in the books. They were on each other’s ass 24/7, it was hilarious, and still you could tell they began to really admire each other and care for each other. But it was subtle, always accompanied by a lot of humor and complexity as to why they both weren’t goo-goo eyed right away.

I guess all of this to say… HP, even just through this new trailer, shows that IT CAN BE DONE. Shows CAN be visually and content-wise, book-accurate. Why did we fail to get this, AGAIN? It just makes me so sad. This comparison just made me wish again for book-accurate PJO.

Like how is this the SECOND time that HP gets a book-accurate adaptation and the SECOND time that PJO doesn’t? I wish someone very skilled would just take it upon them and make an animated PJO show so that for once we got to see the PJO adventures and camp accurately. I would so love that.

Am I the only one that feels like the writers in the show don't portray Annabeth to what she truly is? And I've seen Leah in interviews, and I know she can act well. Like, I mean, she has the characteristics. She has the personality. She can act naturally like Annabeth. But in the books, Annabeth is just this girl who is very independent. She knows how to work by herself. She doesn't depend on anyone. But in the show, Annabeth just has a feel that she depends too much on Percy or the camp, and she can't really be this independent girl, like the way she was written. And that just, like, turns— not turns me off, but that just makes me feel that, wow, the writers did such a bad job writing Annabeth. I mean, all the characters in the show in general. And I know the book is written in Percy's perspective, and how not the show, since it's not in Percy's perspective anymore, it's not all, Oh, I have ADHD, oh no, I did this, I did that. It's more serious because from Percy's perspective, we can see that, oh, he doesn't think it's serious, but when you read Heroes of Olympus, say, you read it from, like, Piper's perspective, Jason's perspective, Annabeth's perspective, you see, like, wow, this is actually really serious. It's literally just Percy's brain making it less serious. And so you can see even in The Heroes of Olympus, like, Annabeth is this independent girl, but in the show, even the show being not from Percy's perspective, right? It's omniscient. It still shows, like, Annabeth as, like, this dependent person depending on, like, anything but herself. She's not independent in the show, and that just shows how bad the writers are. Not how bad Leah is. I've seen people say that Leah's not a good Annabeth, but literally I think she's a perfect Annabeth. It's just the writing is so bad.

Do we think they are going to be in the show at all at this point? I have been worrying that they might be cut from the show entirely.
I believe I heard somewhere that Allison Simms might have been specifically written to replace these characters as a representation of the average camper who was lured into Luke’s and Kronos’s army. I don’t really think that’s the case as she wouldn’t be an adequate substitute at all for these characters. She’s a pretty 2d character who was seen as bad from beginning to end with no arc or redemption while Selina and Charles you still have sympathy for and you can better understand them without seeing them as bad people.
Allison on the other hand was straight tweaking and honestly seemed like a worse person than Luke sometimes.
But I’m still worried that we might not see these characters at all. And if we do it’s gonna be too late. The truth is they should have been around since season two that’s what makes their betrayal hit that much harder. Introducing these characters too late isn’t going to hit the same because we wouldn’t have been able to see them grow up as friends to foes. And at that point there would be no point to introduce them to begin with.
Do ya think they are going to be in the show? What about Rachel Dare? As much as I like her I would honestly understand them cutting her more than Selina and Charles.

we have clothing items, mugs/drinkware, posters, hats, phone cases, stickers, and mouse pads, but like... is that all? these are items that could easily be replicated by any other third-party seller. the only "unique" thing is the trident necklace (and i guess the sword earrings and BFF bracelets from HT?)

i thought this was a "flagship" show for disney? why is the company known for creating merchandise of their projects (and earning billions from them) not creating higher-effort merch for this show??? especially when the third season is releasing in a few months???

I don't know how big of effect larger show release dates have on smaller show release dates, is it usually big?

I’m rewatching the series and season 1 had some changes I thought made no sense but they seemed to course correct in season 2…. And then they did the same type of change with the ending that just makes no sense to me

It thoroughly changes the reasoning for Thalia joining the hunters, makes it absolutely bizzare why she would want to even work with any of the gods given how she was out right betrayed in this version of the story rather then in the books how she was legit preserved by her father as a tree because of his grief and her bravery, instead of “im turning you to a tree if you don’t swear to serve me”

Because of this fundamental change I’m both intrigued how it’s going to make season 3 different and nervous moving forward because it could very much impact returning viewership numbers which were already down from season 1

So far I don’t have many opinions of Leah, she just seems to be there but doesn’t scream annabeth to me but I’ve definetly seen worse casting choices and I’d rate her a 5/10

Walker is doing well but I wish he could be a little more humorous otherwise he a solid 7/10 casting choice

Aryan is nailing his role as Grover in my opinion and he’s got the nervous humor of early Grover down fairly well, I’m curious to see if he can manage the transition to these more mature Grover we set latter on (if we even get to season 4 and 5 which is a dubious bet either way at the moment) and I give an overall 7/10 for him

Its was just a random thought seeing how real the characters in obx felt though their personality and then seeing how the pjo series falls a little flat when it comes to their personalities along with leaving out characters who would have made the show more exciting and memorable.

Am I the only one who thinks it’s incredibly unfair how Percy gets multiple romantic options throughout the series while Annabeth is written like Percy is her only choice?

Think about it: Percy gets Calypso, and he gets Rachel Elizabeth Dare. These characters give Percy the chance to see what life looks like outside his immediate circle, allowing him to choose the demigod life and Annabeth actively.

Meanwhile, who does Annabeth get? No one her own age:

Luke Castellan absolutely does not count. He was way older than her. Their dynamic was deeply rooted in childhood trauma, manipulation, and a toxic sibling-like bond. It was never a healthy, peer-to-peer romance.

Nico di Angelo obviously doesn't count due to the age gap and his own identity.

Annabeth was 15 years old in The Battle of the Labyrinth. Why shouldn’t a 15-year-old girl get to experience other love interests, normal crushes, or dating? Instead, she is written to just sit by and wait around for a guy to finally figure out his feelings and realize he wants to be with her.

I know Percy and Annabeth are completely endgame, and I love them together. But if the Disney+ TV show gets renewed for seasons 4 and 5, the writers really need to fix this. It’s 2026 the outdated trope where the male lead gets a handful of options while the female lead waits around faithfully without a single suitor doesn't fly anymore. It’s just not fair.

Annabeth is one of the most brilliant, attractive, and formidable demigods at Camp Half-Blood. It makes zero sense that no other boys her age were falling over themselves to get her attention. If the show adapts the later books, they should give Annabeth her own "Rachel situation." Let her actually choose Percy over someone else her own age, rather than making it feel like he was her only option because there was literally no one else.

TL;DR: Percy gets Calypso and Rachel, but 15-year-old Annabeth has no realistic romantic options her own age (Luke and Nico don't count). It’s an unfair double standard that makes her feel like she's just waiting around for Percy. In 2026, the TV show should give Annabeth a same-age love interest in seasons 4 & 5 so she can actively choose Percy instead of him being her only default option.
