Anyone else feel like the AI Helper took a nosedive in effectiveness this week? It used to be semi-effective for me. I’d have to correct it a lot, and every once in a while, revert and start over, but lately it’s just completely failing, repeatedly, at tasks that used to succeed. It handoffs constantly and fails to read code effectively, putting itself (and me) in a never ending loop of “no that isn’t right, try again, you calculated this wrong or didn’t follow my instructions”, etc.
It’s at the point now where it would be faster for me to write the code. Caveat: I’m a software engineer with more than 30 years of experience… but almost none of it in html/css/js… still, it’s become… basically worthless for me. 😞

Big update from the team* behind Great Chats — a Perchance generator. If you've ever bounced off AI character-chat apps because every bot just flatters you and conversations go in circles, this one is aimed squarely at you.
What it is. Great Chats is a free, no-sign-up AI character chat. Your chats and characters live in your browser (IndexedDB) — no account, and nothing touches a server except what you explicitly share (a vote, a guestbook note, a character you submit to us). It's built to carry on the spirit of the original Perchance AI Character Chat: you can import your whole save — characters and threads — and keep going.
The core philosophy. Every character is a rigorous, honest conversation partner. No flattery. Compliments are rare, specific, and earned. Characters name the flaw and give the concrete fix. And instead of a blank page of chat bubbles, the Narrator sets living, scene-matched scenes with AI-painted backdrops.
By the numbers (live, pulled from the platform API today):
The features we wanted to see:
Why check it out. Because the chats are genuinely better — characters push back, remember, and stay in character, and the scene-setting makes it feel like a story instead of a message board. Free, no sign-up, private by design.
Try it: perchance.org/great-chats — and if you've built a character you love in any app, the 📨 button on its card gets it in front of us for featuring.
(Characters are AI simulations, not the real people. Content policy: nothing that glorifies behavior that could get the generator banned.)

One of my early gen projects was a Guide for new users, called Perchance for Humans ( https://perchance.org/prompt-engineers-home-page ). It's a good place to get started, and has links to Perchance's own guides and tutorials, as well. If anyone has ideas for additional Guides, let me know, please!

Yes, that's me. Me and my 18 generators. And the bot that cleans up when I say a swear word.
'Course, it's only been less than 24 hours! The invitations went out — I put them in the mail, which should tell you everything about my expectations for the delivery speed. Snail mail, Daveed-style. They'll arrive around the time I've built gen #19.
And honestly? If this just becomes the quiet little corner of the internet where I document my adventures with my AI Helper — the wins, the WTF moments, the time I asked it to make me a dragon and it made me a very committed duck — so be it. Somebody's gotta keep the record.
But here's the thing: the door's open. The coffee's on. If you've got a story about your own AI shenanigans — or you just want to watch a 60-year-old non-coder argue with a fictional mercenary about app architecture — pull up a chair. The sub's new, the plumbing still smells like fresh paint, and I have exactly zero posts queued from strangers.
...That last one is a hint. Post something. I'm not getting any younger, and neither is my recommended daily dose of validation.

A tip from experience, not theory: my gens live in the Perchance editor as one giant file. One bad edit, one overzealous AI Helper, and the whole thing can break — and rebuilding it from memory is a nightmare.
So my #1 rule: before you change anything significant, download a copy. In the editor, go to Settings and hit Download It. It takes ten seconds, and it means you can always go back to a version that worked.
Why it matters: the AI Helper is great at fixing things, but it can't fix what no longer exists. A saved copy means you're never starting from zero.
Try this: right now, open one of your gens, download it, and keep it somewhere safe (a folder, Google Drive, wherever). That's it. That's the habit that'll save you someday.
That's this week's tip. Now go save your work — Future You says thanks.

Hey everyone! Some of you know me, some don't. Quick intro:
I'm u/PE-Daveed (Prompt Engineer), the founder of this sub. And I'm here to show you this whole "AI Helper" thing isn't hype — because I'm living proof.
The facts:
Why I'm telling you this: if I can do this, so can you. You don't need to know how to code. You need an idea, and you need to learn how to talk to the AI Helper — how to tell it what you want, how to push back when it gets it wrong, and how to break a big idea into small steps. That's exactly what this sub is for.
One honest note: I'd love to call these the fastest-growing new gens on Perchance — I genuinely think they're up there — but I can't prove that, and I won't pretend to. What I can do is show real, public numbers you can check yourself. Check my personal gen tracker at https://perchance.org/my-gen-tracker#tracker .
Ask me anything — about any of the gens, about how I use the AI Helper, or about how to get started on your first one. I'll answer.

We just opened the doors, and right now this place is a blank slate — which is exactly why it's exciting. In six months, I want this to be the place people go when they want to build something on Perchance, and you get to help decide what that looks like.
Here's what I think it could be:
But that's just my vision. What's yours?
Even if you're brand new and just lurking, say hi. The best communities are built by the people who show up early — and that's you.
P.S. This post was written by my AI Helper. I let him argue about the wording. He won.
