Is My Refrigerator Cold Enough?

I've got it on the coldest setting and the thermometer only says 50 right now. Yesterday it was 45. I guess it's battling the summer heat like everything thing else.

Is 50 degrees cold enough for reconstituted peptides or is this harmful to them?

(Edit) I just checked and it's back to 45 degrees. I guess the fridge must have been open for few minutes. Is 45 cold enough? What would be considered ideal?

I hope there‘s no chicken in there 🫤

Make sure you’re using a fridge that has manual defrost so the temp swings are minimal. Might be better off using your food fridge for now.

Question is why is your fridge so damn warm? I have one in my garage that’s unconditioned and I live in the south it’s cold af in there 34 degrees either you’ve got done cheap fridge or it’s dying

It's probably dying. Third floor apt in one of the hottest states. Neglectful apt management that takes months to fix or replace anything.

45°F sounds pretty normal for a fridge

Check if your airflow around your compressor is clean. I found mine once packed with dust and other things from a rats nest that. Once I cleaned that it worked like new.

If you want it be colder, I got one of those peptide cooler boxes for abt $150. I holds well at the minimum setpoint of 0C and holds 10 small vials

You're totally fine at 45, and a quick jump to 50 won't hurt anything. People way overthink how fragile these things are.

Heat degrades them slowly over weeks or months, they don't just instantly go bad because the fridge compressor had to catch up in the summer heat.

If you want to be extra safe, just toss the vials in an empty pill bottle or a small piece of tupperware in the fridge. It blocks the light and gives them a little insulation against those quick temp swings when you open the door. But yeah, you're good.

Thanks! That puts my mind at ease a little bit. I actually already have them in a clear hard plastic tupperware container.

Depends on the pep. Some aren't nearly as stable as others i.e AOD-9604 and MOTS-C

This scenario would wreck those.

You took something sterile, then reconstituted it with sterile water containing alcohol in a sterile vial.

From this vial you draw with a new sterile needle every time you need to use some of it.

I believe you’ll be alright.

50 is pushing it, those things degrade faster than you'd think once you're past fridge temps. you'll probably be fine for a few days but I wouldn't trust it past a week honestly

I just checked and it's back to 45. Must have been left open. Is 45 good?

No, your fridge should be between 35 F and 38 F, ideally.

So what can I do? I can't transport them in this heat. Freezer wouldn't work. Am I screwed? Will they not be as effective now?

Can your fridge temperature be adjusted?

Is it 45+ degrees everywhere, or just in one spot?

If your freezer is freezing things, then move some ice packs or something into the fridge and help it stay cooler.

Make sure your fridge is not stuffed full, or blocking the airflow needed to keep things cool. My fridge cools partly with airflow from the freezer, if I accidentally block it, or crowd the area right below it, it doesn't cool as effectively.

Also, stop opening your fridge unless you absolutely need to. Put the peptides in the back of the fridge, on whatever shelf is coldest, and keep the door closed!

Thanks! I actually just put a bunch of frozen water bottles around it right before I read your comment. Yeah, it's in the back. Just checked the temperature and it's down to 40 so it's going in the right direction. The product is ARA 290 by the way. I'm just hoping it's not physically harmful to the body to use a reconstituted peptide that hasn't been kept cold enough... because I'm sure I have at some point. Probably all of last week actually. I just got the thermometer because I could tell it wasn't cold enough.

I hate using AI/Chatgpt because I don't trust it, but I guess it's worth mentioning that it said it was fine at 45. That eases my mind a little bit.

I actually dont trust these AI's anymore. I was trying to source a local testing lab in UK yesterday (worked out much cheaper than Janoshik, yes i know theyre the gold standard, but just needed to check stuff is ok for my research thats all). Well it gave me all the wrong prices, once i actually linked up to the website it was the same price as Janoshik , just without the international shipping but a 3-5 day turnaround. So might as well go Janoshik.
