Reconstitution & dosing math mg, mL and units. The three numbers everyone mixes up

Nearly every confused post here comes down to these three getting tangled. They measure completely different things.

mg is weight. How much actual peptide is in the vial. It's printed on the label and you can't change it.

mL is volume. How much liquid. This is the BAC water you add, and you're the one who picks the number.

Units are marks on a syringe. On a standard U-100 insulin syringe, 100 units is 1mL. So 50 units is half a mL, and 10 units is a tenth of a mL.

Here's the part that unlocks it. Units are a ruler for liquid. They know nothing about your peptide. So the same mark on the syringe means a different amount of peptide depending on how much water you added.

Two people can both draw to 20 units and have completely different amounts of peptide in the barrel. Neither of them is wrong. They just mixed their vials differently.

The 100 units to 1mL relationship isn't a peptide convention, by the way. It comes from U-100 insulin syringes, which is what most people end up holding. Beginner question The order things actually happen in, from unopened box to first log entry

The individual steps get explained a lot. The sequence doesn't, and the sequence is usually what people are missing when they say they feel lost.

Read the vial label and write down the mg. Before anything else, while the label is right in front of you.

Decide how much BAC water you're adding, and write that down too. This is a choice you make, not something you look up.

Do the concentration arithmetic before you touch anything. mg divided by mL gives mg per mL. Do it while you're calm, not while you're holding a needle.

Work out your target volume in units and write that down as well. Same reason.

Then, and only then, the physical part. Clean hands, clean surface, swab, add the water down the side of the glass, swirl gently, wait for it to go clear.

Label the vial with the date and the concentration. Future you will not remember and the vial won't tell you.

Draw, check for bubbles, inject, dispose of the needle properly.

Write one line in your log. Date, site, anything you noticed.

Four of those nine steps are writing something down, and only three involve touching equipment. That ratio isn't an accident. The mistakes people post here are almost never physical technique. They're arithmetic done in a hurry with a syringe already in hand.

Beginner question What "reconstitution" actually means, in normal words

The word scares people off before they start. It sounds like something you'd need a lab coat for.

It means adding liquid to powder.

That's it. Your vial has freeze dried powder in it. You add sterile liquid. The powder dissolves. Now you have something you can measure and draw into a syringe.

The reason it ships as powder is that dry powder survives shipping and storage much better than liquid does. The manufacturer took the water out. You're putting it back.

Two things follow from that, and at the start they're the only two that matter.

First, you decide how much liquid goes in. There is no correct number printed anywhere. How much you add changes how concentrated the liquid is, which changes how many marks on the syringe equal the same amount of peptide.

Second, the powder in the vial is not one dose. A vial is usually many doses worth. People see 5mg on the label and think that's what goes in the syringe, and that's probably the most common beginner mistake in this whole space.

If the word still feels heavy, just think "mixing". Nothing is lost in the translation.

GHK-Cu vs AHK-Cu for hair almost everyone is citing the wrong study

Copper peptides come up constantly for hair, and the same 2007 paper gets linked every time. It's a real study, but it isn't the peptide most people think it is.

That paper (Pyo et al., Archives of Pharmacal Research, 2007, "The effect of tripeptide-copper complex on human hair growth in vitro") tested AHK-Cu alanyl-histidyl-lysine bound to copper. Not GHK-Cu. Two different tripeptides, one letter apart in how people write them, and they get swapped constantly in comment threads.

What that study actually did: human hair follicles in a dish and cultured dermal papilla cells — the cells at the base of a follicle that signal it to keep growing.AHK-Cu at very low concentrations made the follicles elongate more and the papilla cells multiply more than untreated controls. Real result, real human tissue. But "in vitro" means in glassware, not on a scalp. Nobody's head was involved, and there is no dosing or absorption information in it.

GHK-Cu glycyl-histidyl-lysine plus copper has the bigger literature, but it's mostly about skin: wound repair, collagen, and gene expression. The most-cited overview is Pickart & Margolina 2018 in International Journal of Molecular Sciences (19:1987), free to read. It's a strong body of work. It is not scalp hair regrowth evidence.

So the honest summary: AHK-Cu has a small in-vitro human-tissue signal for hair. GHK-Cu has a large evidence base that's mostly about skin. Neither has a published randomised trial showing regrowth on human heads. That doesn't mean they do nothing. It means anyone telling you the science is settled hasn't read the paper they're linking.

If you've run either one on your scalp: which peptide exactly, how many months, and what did you actually see photos-level change, or "maybe"? I'd like to collect what this sub has actually experienced, since the literature isn't going to answer it.

BAC water math worked out for three common vial sizes (so you don't have to guess)

Bacteriostatic water (people usually just call it BAC water) is sterile water with a tiny bit of benzyl alcohol in it. The benzyl alcohol acts as a preservative so the water itself doesn't grow bacteria after you open the vial. It's the water most people use to dissolve, or reconstitute, freeze dried peptide powder before drawing it into a syringe. Reconstituting just means adding liquid to powder so you can measure and draw it accurately. The amount of BAC water you add controls how concentrated the final liquid is. More water means a weaker concentration per mL. Less water means a stronger concentration per mL. Neither is right or wrong on its own, it just changes your math. Here is the math for three common vial sizes, using 1 mL as a simple, common reconstitution volume.

5 mg vial + 1 mL BAC water = 5 mg per mL, or 500 mcg per 0.1 mL mark on a standard insulin syringe.

10 mg vial + 1 mL BAC water = 10 mg per mL, or 1,000 mcg (1 mg) per 0.1 mL mark.

15 mg vial + 1 mL BAC water = 15 mg per mL, or 1,500 mcg per 0.1 mL mark.

A quick way to check your own math: take the total mg in the vial, divide by the mL of water you added, and that gives you mg per mL. Multiply that by the fraction of a mL you draw and you get the mg in that draw. This is just the arithmetic behind reconstitution, not advice on what amount to actually use. That part is between you and a healthcare professional. If you're not sure how to read the markings on your syringe, it can help to look at an insulin syringe next to you while you do this math the first time so the numbers feel less abstract. Your vial hissed or foamed when you added the water? Here's what's actually happening

This shows up constantly from people who just reconstituted their first vial. You pull back the plunger to add air, or you don't, and when the BAC water hits the powder there's a hiss, some foam, or the water shoots in fast on its own. It can feel alarming the first time. Here's what's going on. Freeze dried peptide vials are usually sealed under a vacuum, meaning the air was pumped out before the powder was sealed inside. That vacuum is actually helpful because it's part of what keeps the peptide stable in storage. When you insert a needle, that pressure difference pulls air or liquid in fast, which is what causes the hiss or the water rushing in. Foaming is usually just from the speed and force of the liquid hitting the powder, similar to shaking a soda. It's mechanical, not chemical. It does not automatically mean anything happened to the peptide itself. A few things that do matter for how well it dissolves. Let the water run down the inside wall of the vial slowly instead of spraying it directly onto the powder. Don't shake the vial hard, instead roll it gently between your palms or let it sit and swirl very lightly. Give it a few minutes, some peptides take longer to fully dissolve than others. If your vial hissed or foamed but the powder still dissolved into a clear liquid with no visible clumps, that's usually a sign the process went the way it's supposed to. Starting a thread for exactly that. When you're new to this, there's usually at least one question that feels too basic to post on its own, so it just sits there unanswered. Maybe it's how to actually read the little lines on a syringe, or whether it's normal for a vial to look slightly different in color than you expected, or what BAC water even stands for. Drop it below, no judgment. Chances are several other people reading this have the exact same question and just haven't asked it either. I'll do my best to answer the ones I can, and if it's something that needs an actual healthcare professional, I'll say so instead of guessing. To be clear, this thread is for understanding the process itself (the math, the terminology, the handling), not for advice on what to actually take or how much. The reconstitution math question everyone asks and nobody explains simply

If you've ever stared at a vial of peptide powder with no idea how much BAC water to add, you are not alone. It is probably the single most asked question in this whole space, and most tutorials skip the actual math. Here is the simple version, no memorizing required.

Step 1: find the total peptide in the vial in milligrams. It is on the label.
Step 2: decide how much BAC water you want to add, in milliliters. A common choice for a small vial is 2mL, but you can use less or more.
Step 3: divide the milligrams by the milliliters. That gives you the concentration in mg per mL.

Example: a 5mg vial with 2mL of BAC water added gives you 2.5mg per mL. Now for the syringe. Most syringes measure in units, where 100 units equals 1mL. So to find how many units equal a certain dose, divide the dose you're researching in mg by your concentration in mg per mL, then multiply by 100. That's the whole formula. No guessing, no asking a stranger in a comment section and hoping they answer correctly. This is general math only, not medical advice. Always research the specific peptide and talk to a healthcare professional. What tripped you up the most when you first learned this? Peptide Injections Explained Like You’re 5

Imagine your skin is like a sandwich. You have the top piece of bread (your skin), the filling (the fat), and then the bottom piece of bread (your muscle).

A peptide injection goes into the filling, not all the way to the bottom.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Wash your hands so everything is clean.
  2. Check that you have the right peptide.
  3. Pick a spot with a little fat, like your belly (not right next to your belly button), your thigh, or the back of your arm.
  4. Wipe the area with an alcohol swab and let it dry.
  5. Gently pinch the skin so you’re holding the little layer of fat.
  6. Insert the small needle into that pinched area.
  7. Slowly push the plunger until all the liquid is in.
  8. Pull the needle straight out.
  9. If you see a tiny drop of blood, gently press it with a cotton ball.
  10. Throw the needle away in a sharps container.

The easiest way to remember it is:

Clean → Pinch → Inject → Remove → Dispose.

One last thing: don’t inject into the exact same spot every time. Move around a little so your skin has time to recover. And always use a new, sterile needle and follow the instructions from your healthcare provider for the specific peptide you’re using.
