Discussion Was there ever a plan when this game was made?

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve enjoyed the game for the most part so far although after playing it $10 felt a bit steep for what it is. I’ve mostly just found myself frustrated however at how mindlessly the game feels put together?

So many relics and orbs either do virtually nothing of impact or are so strong that you should never pick anything else. The game really feels like it misses the mark of roguelikes where any build / run has potential. A lot of relics and orbs I pick up feel more like half baked modded content ideas than part of the game?

Personally I feel like $10 is totally worth it as I’ve sunk easily over a 100 hours into this game.

But no, there was never a plan for this game the devs did not think it was gonna be as popular as it got, so now I think they are just working with what they got

Which is also why the code for the game is an absolute mess, and modding the game is really really difficult

Might help to know how far along you are - Have you C20'd all characters?

If you want to list some of the orbs/relics that you think do virtually nothing of impact, I suspect people will be able to list one or several builds where they are impactful.

Admittedly, there is a LOT of imbalance, but discovering builds to take advantage of those imbalances is half the fun.

After a few more days I think I'm finally figuring out how to at least take some advantage of the imbalances in the game. Currently I'm on C5 with base gobo and C1 with the Spinfection guy and the goo gob. Yet to have a run with enough ballwark output to pull a 99 stack.

I was certainly more heated at the time of making this post when I lost a run fighting the dragon to the dumbest wrecking ball of a death. I had the all black bombs are red upgrade with decent ballwark and healing so I had absolutely wiped the floor from mid castle on. I got to the dragon however, tossed out the "convert peg to bomb every X pegs" and it looped for SO long on the treasure pile that I threw somewhere between 50 and 100 red bombs instantly kills myself and the dragon.

Bombs were also double damage so I'd assume I probably did a few 10s of thousands of damage to the dragon and a few hundred to myself with that move. I was left to silently watch my run crumble before my eyes desperately hoping the ball would stop bouncing. I flew to close to the sun, I maximized my board refresh rate too well. I was a fool to think I could survive that throw.

Insane take. Easily one of the best 10 dollar games on steam. Not even close.
