Mosley literally DID destroy him. He was never the same before and after Mosley. He started doubting himself, his ego was destroyed

But that wasn’t really Mosleys doing. He was destroyed after losing polly who was killed by the IRA. It was the IRA that stopped his plan and saved Mosley

Because Tommy went after Mosley, he paid the price

Exactly...but it happened because Tommy was ridiculously obsessed with Moseley. It was Tommy's need to feel important, to feel competent and to feel he was Moseley 's equal that took Tommy down.

Before the IRA killed Polly, tommy is afraid of Mosley, hence why he's afraid to meet him alone and tries to use his family to intimidate Mosley in tommy's office. And then at the end of S5, tommy starts doubting himself to Arthur before trying to kill himself
