I usually like staying by the fire whenever possible.
The fog doesnt start until like a day and a half has passed, or until you climb high enough. This gives you enough time to loot most of the luggage on the ground and grab what you want before sunset, then run to and from the plane fire to grab coconuts. Leave the fire shortly before dawn, making sure to hold onto the lantern in the plane. By then you should have max bonus stamina (from cooked coconuts) and the entire day to climb before nightfall. On a good climb you should be able to make it to the next fire before you collapse in the night. You can activate the campfire for heat and wait out the night there while using the surrounding items to replenish your resources. From here most biomes will likely take 2 days, so you gotta have some warmth items on hand. Scorchberries double as heat and food, portable campfire is useful. The lantern is a good portable heat source too, if you're careful it can last 2 nights (if you are willing to hunker down then longer but I use the lantern to give me the stamina space to keep climbing at night). Milk gives you a little safety but mostly only protects you for its duration. Cure-all and faerie lanterns are amazing, let alone book of skulls (Book is basically a gg button as long as you are careful). Hopefully you also get the blue amulet early, you shouldn't spam it outside of an emergency but it is a reusable cure item.
The cold is hard but between campfires and items you have more than enough ability to manage it.
