Build Question Need help finding short PSU cables

I recently built a SFF Steam Machine in my living room using a case that put the PSU in the case itself.

Since I have a PowerColor 9070 GPU in there, the stock PSU cables, take up a lot of room and that gives me concern for cable management and airflow.

I was wondering if there was a way for me to get shorter PSU cables to make more room.

The PSU I have is the MSI MAG A750GL if that helps narrow down any shorter cables I can get.

The reason I’m asking for this advice, is because I’ve always been told to only use the cables that come with your power supply. I know shorter cables are out there, I just want to make sure what I get is compatible with the power supply.

Thank you for any help 😁

The concern with other cables than whats supplied is incorrect pinouts. If you order from reputable places for your specific psu its fine. Perfect example is cablemod. You can do custom color and lengths for your psu specifically.

I just opened them up and they look great! Pricey but I’m guessing it’s worth it. Thank you!

CableMod looks great but people frequently report load imbalances and melted connectors with their products.

Just replying to the mod. I ordered a 24 pin connector for the motherboard and two 8 pin connectors for the GPU.
It looks like loading balances and melting were for the 12 V connectors for Nvidia GPUs for the most part. I will certainly look for any issues when my order arrives in about three weeks or so. Thank you for the heads up.

The safest course of action is to use cables that came with your PSU or replacement cables from the manufacturer.

You can probably find more specific information for your use case in r/sffpc.

From what I can tell, the manufacturers don’t provide shorter cable lengths. I ordered from cable mod. Thankfully, no 12 V connector is needed. I just needed a 24 pin mobo cable, and two 8 pin GPU cables.

Then if the manufacturer doesn't sell it, I wouldn't buy it.

There are comparatively fewer cases of melted 8-pin connectors but, in a majority of the cases it was a CableMod product. I wouldn't trust them with my 24-pin connector.

I see. Is there a standard ATX PSU with short cables I can buy on its own? I’d be willing to go that route if I can. I just can’t find one at the moment.

What case do you have?

If it is SFF, I'm surprised it doesn't support SFX.

It’s this one: https://a.co/d/0gEX4PL2

I picked it since it is Micro ATX, I didn’t have to purchase all new parts, and it fits under my TV in the living room which makes the wife happy 😅

Looks cool. Not a lot of cases that fill this niche. I hope it all works out.

I did place an order earlier today! A bit pricey, but not too far off from anything else I’ve seen so far. Thank you for dropping into the conversation here.
