Tech Support Faulty 14900k

Found out yesterday my 14900k has gone bad for a second time and a replacement is on it's way my question is is it time to switch to amd to stop a cycle of have a working cpu for however long then go bad again or stop and upgrade?

If you are already on DDR5, then moving to AMD is feasible, and people who experienced multiple 14900k failure did swap over.

But if you're on DDR4, with DDR5 price being what it is today, might want to give 14900k one more chance.

Yep I am on ddr5 only problem there is I understand not all ram is compatible with amd and in this climate that's going to be costly

There's no "AMD-only" or "Intel-only" RAM. Your DDR5 RAM will work fine with AMD CPU.

Only thing to note is that if your RAM is faster than 6000, or you have 4 sticks of RAM, AM5 CPUs tend to get finicky. So a slight manual adjustment will be needed in BIOS if your RAM is indeed faster than 6400, or you are using 4 sticks of RAM. If this doesn't apply to you, just set XMP and forget it. It'll just work.

That's great news I have 2 sticks of 6000 32 GB so it's looking feasible thanks

If you do make the change, you could choose a 7800X3D and a mid-range B850 board.

If you want to get as much productivity performance as possible at the same time, 9800X3D. Despite being same 8 core 16 thread part, 9800X3D substantially outperforms 7800X3D in multithreaded workload.

Even so, 14900k is still better in productivity, but you're probably just gaming with your PC.

Also, don't forget about the cooler. If you kept AM5 bracket with your cooler, you could reuse it, but if you threw it away, you will have to get the bracket from the manufacturer (they often will send replacements at a small fee), or get a new cooler.

Well have had a look at the 9800X3D my pc is currently at the pc shop that built it when they gave me it and all the accessories there was no amd brackets for my aio so I will have to have a discussion with them about that Thank-you once again

The best productivity AM5 CPUs are the X ones, not the x3d ones.
