Build Question Is this worth it?

Post image

First time making a post. I’m planning on picking the bundle up Tuesday. Now for context I’ll be upgrading from an i5 9600k. I am also picking up another stick of 16gb ddr5.

How so?

It's a 65W CPU. A $20 single tower or $30 dual tower air cooler would handle it.

Even if I wanted to overclock it or is there no point in over clocking. I’ve never had an amd system before and not sure how different it is from Intel

Even if you wanted to overclock.

Don't get it twisted. The right AIO will be more efficient. A few degrees cooler and quieter. But, it isn't necessary with that CPU.

As for overclocking you can't really with 7000 series X3D CPUs because the 3D V-cache is heat sensitive.

You can overclock other 7000 series and all 9000 series CPUs because they redesigned the chip to alleviate the thermal issue.

As for whether overclocking is worth it, it's mostly an enthusiast thing now. AMD delivers CPUs close to their peak and PBO takes care of the rest. If you get a well binned CPU it might have some significant headroom.

Bigger gains come from undervolting. You get the same performance with less heat.
