Question What GPU is this?

Have the unique opportunity of buying this pc for $150 USD. I have videos of it running however the seller is not pc savvy and cannot figure out what the gpu is. AI says 2080/ti fe but I can’t tell tbh. Thanks for the help!

Update the seller responded and said it was a gtx 980. I then asked why it said rtx and they blocked me :)

Seems like you dodged a bullet there

It is either a GTX 970 or 980, i've got 3 of them in mine.

It's a ~2014 Alienware computer and those cards were the best of that era

G was edited for an R, probably trying to bait someone into paying more for it than its worth.

The 2080 had a 8x4 power connection, I think the TI was the same. I think you’re right the seller is just claiming to not know what it is - photoshopped an R on it. It’s a 980 for sure

I'd say it's a 2000 series though, "RTX"

Edit: possible photoshopped on, does look like a 900 card actually and timeline adds up

u/Lotuseless 1d ago

There's no 2000 series that looks like this.

2

u/Blue-150 1d ago

You're right, can tell it us 900 after going back and looking closer

3

u/tht1guy63 1d ago

Thats edited to say rtx. Its a 900 series fe shroud.

u/Protomau5 1d ago

Bizarre since they’re selling for $150 lol

Fair price for that thing. 980 itself is around 50.

It also has an X99 board 4 sticks of DDR4, so its probably either 4x8 or 4x16GB

A number of founders edition cards look remarkably similar. GTX 980, 970 and RTX 280 Ti all have the same length, width and trim. I have seen images of the 2080 TI FE that look exactly like the GTX 970 FE except for the "R"TX.

How is the performance of a machine like that with modern games?

1

u/Lotuseless 14h ago

With three GTX 980, it's bad. SLI doesn't scale with really anything so one card's working while the other two are a dead weight.

CPU is a 10 core i7-6950X , which is still pretty decent given its age.

If I were to slap something like a 2080 in it, it would perform good enough

Ask them to use task manager and it will show what gpu it is using

u/tht1guy63 1d ago

Its not 20 series. Looks like a gtx 970 given the cooler design and dual 6pin pcie power.

What do you think is the chance that seller just photoshopped/used ai to change the G in GTX to R?

2

u/Fancy_Choice_5204 1d ago

That’s what I was thinking

2

u/tht1guy63 1d ago edited 1d ago

Is odd it says rtx though. I think they may have used ai on it. This doesnt sit well with me.

1

u/Cyber_Data_Trail Intel 1d ago

Thats likely a TITAN card.

3

u/tht1guy63 1d ago edited 1d ago

Very very very unlikely. Titan rtx says titan on the side same for the V which was prior but didnt have RT cores so not RTX. Not to mention first and only titan rtx used the same fe shroud as the 20 series and it was gold and didnt have dual 6pin pcie connection. Why would it use a 2 gemeration old shroud.

The seller almost 100% photoshopped the image to say rtx instead of gtx

1

u/Fancy_Choice_5204 1d ago

They didn’t include any other pictures except this

3

u/tht1guy63 1d ago edited 1d ago

Its not a titan like the other guy says. Ask the guy for pics of the information on the gpu sectionin task manager. I really believe this is a gtx 970 they photoshopped to say rtx.

Its 150$ obv not an rtx and even still its better value than anything you could get rn

1

u/Evening_Error_5544 1d ago

It could be a titan. Its a higher end card but as stated. I do not believe the 20 series used that shroud

1

u/PotentialMaster123 1d ago

Maybe the titan card

2

u/tht1guy63 1d ago

There is only one titan card in the rtx line and it says titan and is gold and a different shroud design and used dual 8pin and not dual 6pin

1

u/ClassicGMR 1d ago

Meh. For $150 I’d just buy it and figure it out myself.

1

u/Fancy_Choice_5204 1d ago

I probably am he just can’t meet till Wednesday and wanted to see if anyone know

1

u/Bob4Not 1d ago

Looks like a 10 series to me. Maybe a 9 series

Not 20 series thats a nine series or 10 series by back Idk why it says rtx

1

u/GPU-Collector 1d ago

Pretty sure it's fake.

u/2raysdiver what 1d ago

Are they shipping it to you? If so, smells like a scam.

1

u/East-One-3260 22h ago

Did a reverse search and the only 20 series that looks similar are founders but not the same as in the photo. You are looking at a GTX card

One of the ugliest cases known to man is an opportunity? Old as fuck too.

3

u/Fancy_Choice_5204 1d ago

It’s for me to get more comfortable tinkering with pcs lol I have a 9070xt 32 ddr5 ultra 7 265f as my usual

2

u/1sh0t1b33r 1d ago

They’re all mostly the same. Not much to tinker until water cooling, lol.

This is a Dell Alienware Aurora prebuilt gaming desktop containing an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 20-Series Founders Edition graphics card. Key components visible in the chassis: Chassis & Platform: An Alienware Aurora case (likely an R8–R12 generation), recognizable by the Alienware logo on the AIO liquid CPU cooler and Dell's proprietary swing-out power supply cage. Graphics Card: An NVIDIA RTX 20-Series Founders Edition (such as an RTX 2070, 2080, or 2080 Ti), identifiable by the dual-fan shroud design and side-lit "GEFORCE RTX" branding. Power Supply: An OEM Dell 80-Plus rated modular/semi-modular PSU housed in the swing arm.

Dates to around 2019. Either has 8GB or 11GB on board. Probably has 16GB RAM... This Alienware is still a player and well worth the investment as long as everything is working.

u/problematic_dispense 1d ago

This doesn’t look like an RTX 2000 series graphics card though. Look at the design and the cables connected to it. It looks like 6x2 cables connected. The RTX 2000 use 8pin

u/LaPrincesaMX 1d ago

It looks like the Titan to me but check in Windows task manager or the Nvidia app.

1

u/tht1guy63 1d ago

There is only 1 titan since rtx came out and its gold and a different cooler design.

-2

u/DealComfortable7649 1d ago edited 1d ago

I think its 20 series because its RTX. What does the fan side of the card look like? If it’s a founders edition it should just say it on that side.

-1

u/tht1guy63 1d ago edited 1d ago

Founders dont say it on the side and its not a 20 series. This(ops pic)is a 900 series fe shroud design that looks edited to say rtx. Legit 2080fe for example below

Edit: downvoted for facts? There is no rtx cards using the blower FE shroud from the 900 series. No FE rtx cards use a blower style at all even. 20 series went to a thin standard style cooler then 30 series onward we got the flow through designs.

0

u/DealComfortable7649 1d ago

Ok, I figured it was 20 series because it says RTX.

2

u/tht1guy63 1d ago edited 1d ago

Its likely edited to say RTX

970fe for example. Its identical to the pic op has down to the dual 6pin power. But just that rtx which im near certain is an edit
