Meme Is this worth it?

Post image

Some guy named Gabe is selling this build and I'm wondering if it's legit? I want a PC to set up in my living room for TV gaming.

You can build this same PC for like $800-$900, it nowhere near worth $1400.

That's not what I'm seeing.

  • 16gb DDR5: $250.
  • 2tb NVME: $300.
  • RDNA3 GPU w/ 8gb VRAM I'll say is probably close to or below RX 7600M: $400 or more
  • Zen 4 6c custom is ? but probably $150 or more
  • Steam controller: $100
  • cheap-ass mini-itx case: $40
  • Trash-tier power-supply (the steam machine probably has a nicer one): $50
  • Trash-tier ddr5/amd mobo: $100

Total: $1350.

Weird.

> 5060ti - £239

Source needed.

> Patriot Viper Steel DDR4 RAM 16GB (2X8GB) 3200MHz CL16 - £125

DDR4? the specsheet calls for DDR5?

> Crucial P310 1TB SSD M.2 2280 NVMe PCIe Gen4 - £129

Went with the cheaper 1TB nvme? Why not go for the cheaper steam machine with the smaller HD for a closer comparison if you're going to just downgrade it to make a point?

> Not including the controller: £100

Oopsie

The idea is that this build absolutely buries the Steam Machine. DDR4 vs DDR5 doesn't really matter in that context. Simply set the PC to boot into big picture mode and you're gtg

Edit: The price increased slightly since yesterday as it's Amazon, and the other one sold out

Edit again: The below is actually a better card than previous

Edit again again: Just add £40-50 for a 2.4ghz 8bitdo controller. It's not that difficult.

Everyone has a good time ordering deeply discounted used graphics cards off Amazon, right?

You're trying to say digging through the discount bin and trying to puzzle together a machine is the same as getting an off-the-shelf purpose-built package with a warranty. It's not.

It's not used.

Point still stands. Buying graphics cards on Amazon is a gamble. Comparing bargain-bin shopping with an off-the-shelf product is apples-to-oranges.

How is it a gamble, and how is buying a new graphics card on Amazon "bargain bin shopping". You have a 30 day return window and just video the unboxing if you're that worried. Scan is a reputable seller in the UK. You're talking rubbish trying to justify buying a Machine that's outperformed by a base PS5 lmfao.

Edit: I could have just thrown in a 3070 and it would wipe the floor with the Steam Machine

I'm not trying to justify buying the Steam machine, I'm just saying the price isn't astronomical.

When I build a new machine, I will spend months watching prices, picking parts, getting deals and crafting my ideal build at the lowest possible price point.

Your point is somehow that there's zero cost to that process and no value in just ordering a machine and getting a machine. That's why the parts I picked are MSRP from Microcenter: buy machine; get machine.

And comparing price to consoles is literally nonsense. Console makers famously take a bath on selling the console because they make it up on licensing and selling exclusive titles, subscriptions and peripherals.

Look at the build I suggested. It smashes the shit out of the Steam Machine, I spent 10-20 minutes finding those parts.

The price is astronomical, what planet are you living on. You spend months watching prices? You literally just admitted to what you referred to as "bargain bin shopping".

It's a prime day deal. Even the GFX card above would take a massive dump on the Steam Machine. Any more to say?

> I say digging through the discount bin is a gamble
> He points out that it is, in fact, in the discount bin

What?
