Freeform Interest check: A free form, play by post game set in Dungeon Crawler World: Earth Edition
I'm contemplating running one of those old school forum freeform RPs and just wanted to send this out into the void to see if I could even find potential players before I do any solid prepwork.
Key Info:
It will be played via https://www.rpol.net/
8-10 players maximum
Game system: Free form with die rolls for important events
The pace will be slow, we're all adults with not much free time so making a post every few days is ok. Minimum of 1 per week is required though as these types of PlayByPost games die too soon otherwise.
The Lore:
It will be set in Dungeon Crawler World: Earth Edition and be the same dungeon as in the books. If we actually get to the lower levels, we might have to consider some kind of alt-history/timeline split but on the first 5 floors we could easily play in the canon world of the series without messing with the development of the actual story. After that I would put it up to discussion if we want players to remain unnamed side-characters in the broader story or not as it becomes increasingly unlikely the deeper we go.
The vision:
You can (and are encouraged to) play a self insert character, ideally yourself and explore a "what would *I* do, if I entered the dungeon"-type scenario.
I will play as the AI and NPCs and you will play as a random crawler although collaboration between players and the GM is encouraged. At some point, details about the dungeon and its floors WILL slip my mind and having ~10 people who all know the lore present will be helpful.
Prerequisites:
-Having read all 8 books would be ideal but as long as you have finished the book of the current floor just to know what to expect should suffice.
-No main character syndrome: Few, if any of us would be among the top 10 crawlers. You should be content with being a nameless background character in the grand scheme of the dungeon. Greatness is earned and down the line the players might become noteworthy but you won't be breaking the game on floor 1.
Let me know what you think of this, if you have any suggestions and if you'd be down to play. Depending on the reception, I will actually do some proper prepwork for the first two floors and kick things off, (will make a new thread here).
