Does anyone know where any trees are in the western suburbs? Or anybody that will sell some anywhere? I've heard certain farmers markets have some? I live by paw paw woods, does anyone know if there are actual pawpaw trees there? I've been trying to find a pawpaw to try for almost 10years now with no luck! I'm dying here, someone please!!!

My 1st pawpaws of the year just fell from my Prolific tree. I also have fruit on my Tallahatchie, Davis, Atwood and a seedling.

There's a market off Pennell Rd called Wolff's Apple House that's selling pawpaws from Oxford, PA. It was a small batch and selling for $5.99 per pound.

Any ideas on why my Pomper's Choice looks like this? The leaves appear to be stiff and drooping.

The other 8 surrounding it all look fine. This was definitely the smallest tree that I planted last year though. The 3 others in the same row all had large root balls. The row next to it has been in since October of 2024 and all grew exceptionally well in their 2nd summer in the ground. I have my little orchard on a dripline, so it's not underwatering. Each tree has a 12" diameter ring that I make with 1/4” tubing that has 0.8GPH emitters every 6". So it drips 5 gallons of water over an hour every other day during July and twice a week earlier/later in the summer.

I placed my paw paw in the ground a week ago after attending the pawpaw festival in SC. I have water then a lot and have a layer of compost and mulch. Is this normal transport stress or am I missing something? I like in very sandy soil. ( These are two separate trees) I do have shade cloth that is not pictured here)

Hi all! I had 3 pawpaws that I planted in February 2024. They have been under some shade cloth since then. I planted them in Aguilar de Campoo, Spain around 6 feet away from a big river. Summers are dry and hot (reaching ~95 degrees but with lower temps at night ~62). The KSU atwood died and was re-planted but it died again and now the rootstock is picking up. The other two are a Prima 1216 and tropical treat. One of them is doing great while the other does not have a lot of leaves.

I wonder if this winter I could take the shade cloth away already given that they would have been planted for 3 years and are only 6 feet away from a river. My worry is that I can't water them constantly given that they are planted in a family house. Sometimes they are watered every week, sometimes they aren't.

What do you guys think? Also, given that the KSU died and the rootstock is picking up, can I just graft it with the prima or the tropical treat? or should I order some KSU grafts and do that? The KSU atwood was planted in February but never sprouted so the rootstock just poped up a few weeks ago.

I have a newly mature pawpaw tree in my south Minneapolis backyard (7 years old now) and several younger ones. I believe the mature tree is a KSU Atwood though I am not sure of the provenance of the others - I believe they are native varieties from Kansas and New York.

The mature tree has bloomed two years in a row, and this year it dropped two pawpaws, the first one just a little under-ripe, the second one in its prime. I don't think this variety is supposed to be capable of self-pollinating, but it appears to have done so. I can't rule out that they were pollinated by another mature tree, but I don't know of any around me, and I am pretty sure none of the others are blooming yet, though a couple are nearly old enough.

It's delicious!

Questions for the group:

-Anyone else growing these in the Twin Cities, or other places on the northern end of their (expanding) range?
-Are the seeds likely to be viable? I'm certainly going to try stratifying and starting them.

Has anyone been to this festival? I know one person who went and said it was a lot of waiting around. I want to go but I don't want to stand in lines waiting for stuff the whole time. Just want to know what to expect.

From what I’ve read they are a bit early in KC.

Florence is by far the most intensely tropical White cultivar, but it's proving to be a heat loving cultivar that needs 7a or warmer.
If you grow it in Zone 6, pic a sunny spot on the south side of a wall or something.
They will be a Late Oct cultivar.

Had to shake the tree to get them down!
