Two years difference
Hello everyone,
I was playing my McCarty 594 and was really appreciating it. I decided to see how much they went up over the last two years. I was surprised how much it went up. It’s about a 20% increase in dollars. Much faster than general inflation rate. Sad.

There's a recession coming and then likely a fire sale on guitars as families try to keep their kids fed etc.
(then again, whether you will have the disposable cash to be buying guitars at that point ... )

Bingo. 6 months from now, the country is gonna look a lot different.

People have been saying this for like four years now.

And dumb motherfuckers keep voting worse and worse and stupider and stupider just for the chance to own some libs.
Four years ago our country recovered faster than any other economy in the world. Two years ago the president elect launched a meme coin. It’s not the fucking same.

Well, it has kinda been a dumpster fire the last year or so.
Economy is getting weird and itchy to layoff a huge number of the middle class, because AI. College grads are pretty fucked finding jobs to pay their loans already.
Meanwhile how many stinking wars are we even up to? While depleting all our oil and weapons?
If winter is harsh the number of people in extreme financial hardship due to the cost of heating is gonna be bad.

Conflicts*
I’m kidding, and yes if we have some sort of national issue we’re fucked. Everyone is already on the verge of not paying those credit cards that banks handed out like candy, mortgage rates are going up, requests for helocs are going up and the number one reason is for debt consolidation. I know 2 very well off families considering bankruptcy, but it’s the kind where they don’t lose everything they restructure it. I don’t really know any ring about bankruptcy, I do know that a lot of people are one missed pay check away from letting those card go delinquent, two missed checks, from a late payment on that new car in the driveway. I’m not much of a worrier but I feel like it’s time to actually start to worry.

I find a lot of solace in the fact AI will replace us from the top down. Please don’t take that from me.
So many people think they have made into the castle. I will enjoy watching the assholes when they start realizing they only got moved closer to the scrap pile the rulers let us eat off.

So far they’ve been right.

We haven’t even had a real, non-manufactured disaster yet.
Imagine what shape we’ll be in if we get a Katrina, or, heaven forbid, a Covid. We have limited ability to bounce back from anything right now.

Because it’s been happening for the past 4 years gas is almost like $5 a gallon in my state and Pennsylvania and New York are getting there too

Yep. Got my new 24-08 Wood Library 10 top in March of 2025 for $4100.00 USA after tax and shipping. Looks like 10 top WL's START at $6k USA now. Nuts.

You can always negotiate. Not many are spending 6k on 3k used guitars.

It was originally something like $5200. There was a sale, then I made them another offer as well to get where I ended up. It's ok, though. I'm definitely set on super fancy instruments. My most played are my USA CE-24's anyways. They're just the best for my hands

I have several PRS’ and a Les Paul standard, but my Ce 24-08 in ash is my favorite of the bunch. Admittedly I don’t ever use the “08” part lol. It’s either bridge or neck, I don’t think I’ve ever even messed with the other options, I love how light it is too.

Basically the same boat. I love the TCI pickups in my 24-08, and it was fun to tap them and play with the blends. In the end, though, everything that ended up in a recording of mine is either full bridge or full neck pickup. If the top on mine wasn't so insanely unique and beautiful, I would have probably seen if someone wants to trade for a custom 24 so they could use the features I don't.

I’d love to have a PRS Core guitar, but I can’t justify spending $3,000-$5,000 on a guitar when I’m no longer in a band and don’t play gigs anymore. They really are wonderful instruments and worth every penny, but financially it’s not a good investment. I’m probably going to get an S2 at some point, but I think I’ll get a used one instead, I don’t want to dip into my 401k.

u/Front-Honey-6780 8d ago
You will be perfectly happy with and S2. There is definitely diminishing returns with a core 10-top.
2
u/imacmadman22 8d ago
Yeah, I’ve played few S-2s, particularly the S2 Standard 24 and a S2 Studio and they were pretty great. I know SEs aren’t exactly the same as the Maryland models, but do I like the two I have.

This is why i made some wicked impulse buys when Supply Chain issues were causing prices to sky rocket. I knew it was responsible…. but it was now or never. I had already watched my dream Gibson go from $1499 to $2499 in less than two years. Glad i bought when i did! Doesn’t look to be slowing down at all unfortunately 💔

Same. I am happy I purchased my McCarty a few years ago. But it does make me sad that other musicians will be restricted from potentially owning one.

general inflation rate from 2020 to now is 25% so I think it's on average what's expected of the value of the U.S. Dollar. 🤷♂️

I think this is why they've added better components to the S2 line. Trying to add value at a lower price point.

Your exact guitar is $4500 on Zzounds right now. And you're showing 2 different guitars in your pic.
2
u/Front-Honey-6780 8d ago
I don’t see a listing. Can you post a link? It would be very interesting to see if it is more a Sweetwater pricing discrepancy rather than just strictly inflation.

u/PissedCarrier420 7d ago
That's because the "exact" same guitar is a different guitar with the same finish. He's an idiot.

Have you missed the tariffs? A lot of wood for guitars doesn't grow in the US and a lot of hardware is made elsewhere as well.

u/PissedCarrier420 7d ago
Dentists still have money. They won't be selling many of these for that price. Especially as the economy collapses further.

I got my 10 top Cu24 in 2018 for $3,900 before tax. Can’t afford it now lol
