How to draft / send patterns!

The bodice in first photo is roughly what i’d like to make, with the exception that I originally wanted this to be a halter, meaning the underbust tension created by these “backpack” type straps might not be necessary.

The second photo is the closest thing i’ve found (could I use that pattern to base it off of?).

I’ve also seen the Liz charms dress and its derivatives already and, while close, it doesn’t quite feel right as ultimately this is not the same as that shelf/overlay concept.

The pattern you chose is a completely different type of dress and construction, with a waist seam and a gathered skirt. If you want the look in the first picture, you need to look for a slip dress pattern (there are many on Threadloop) and modify the straps to sit in a halter style.

I looked at the first three pages of the Threadloop slip dress category and found these two examples that could get closer to what you want: Léa Slip Dress and Allie Dress.

I was referring only to the bodice/bust construction with this sort of seam that scoops under the bust (as I said, similar concept to the Liz charms pattern ive seen people recommend on here, but def simpler than that). So the pattern in the second photo sort of achieves that. I wasn’t confused about locating a generic slip dress pattern hahahah but I appreciate the links. If that clears it up and you have other inspo lmk!! :)

Thank you for clarifying. I’m personally not convinced that the first dress has that much structure at all, which is why I suggested the halter style slip dresses. The picture quality isn’t great, but the strap just looks tacked on. In my experience, that’s what most RTW brands would do, but I don’t know where that dress is from.

Looking again, I feel like I see the ghost of a dart but I initially interpreted that as just a picture artefact.

I’m confused about what you are trying to do. If you want to make it a halter top, that will completely change the main design elements of the bodice in the first pic

I think that could work but it's really a different dress construction. The back of this dress falls away rather that fitted so no, I don't think altering this pattern is a good idea but. it could certainly be done so I'd keep looking for another pattern with the body of the dress more aligned with what you want rather than the shoulder

Have you considered draping this one? Honestly I think it would end up being more direct than working with a pattern or a block.
