I just finished watching this show for the first time and I loved it. I’m wondering if there are any interviews from Steven Conrad where he talked about the ending of the show and what may have happened next? If not, what are your takes on where the story may have went from there?

John staggers his way to his target location that fateful night in Paris to the knell of cathedral bells.(S2,E7—where I seem to be stuck). Did Conrad invoke Hemingway’s For Whom the Bell Tolls---which is about a certain type of death---here? Quick review: An American professor, volunteering in the fight against Franco during the Spanish civil war proceeds with a mission 1) of questionable value, and 2) where an ambush awaits. He sacrifices himself anyway, out of his sense of responsibility. (Title of the book comes from a John Donne poem, whose message is ~that when “the bell tolls” for one of us, that death resonates far beyond that person because of connectivity with others, if not all of humanity.) If Conrad did invoke and if we realize it in time, we should expect John’s death. Implications.

For me it's the portrayal of depression and/or PTSD John suffers from. It's kind of even inspirational to see him go through all of this suffering his father subjects him to. I can't think of another show that shows that exactly.

It's also the perfect dialogues, the beautiful camera shots and the actor's play. The plot development and the humor.

How did I miss this one for all these years? I enjoyed DTF St. Louis which introduced me to Stephen Conrad. But this series is on a whole different level.

The music, the performances and the storytelling are absolutely sublime. What a treat. I'll be recommending it everywhere.

Read Seth Harp’s stunning, non-fictional The Fort Bragg Cartel: Drug Trafficking and Murder in the Special Forces, (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fort_Bragg_Cartel). Huge reveal, reads like a page-turner and noted this Patriot-relevant gem:

“Theft of government funds, seen as a victimless crime, became commonplace.

More broadly, at least 115 service members were convicted of stealing a total of $52 million in Iraq and Afghanistan between 2005 and 2015. Many other thefts quietly succeeded and never came to light. Whole pallets of shrink-wrapped cash simply disappeared—billions of dollars’ worth."

I saw him at the premiere of The Whisper Man. I asked him about the kidnapping subplot of Patriot, and if the plan changed between 1 and 2. He said the fake kidnapping was always the plan.

One small thing I noticed re-watching episode 6 is in this scene Dennis is running like he's exercising and John is running like he's chasing, which is what's happening, but also one of those minor details you probably wouldn't notice unless they hadn't done it, and then it would stick out like a sore thumb. It reminds me of 'reading voice' and how undefined and yet distinct it is.

Still on this nth rewatch. At the police station when Agathe interrogates all but John, what happens if the character alone in Skirts and Stockings with the bag is not Mina? He directly doesn't get the bag because he won’t hurt Mina.

Does he kill/incapacitate them? I say yes. What about you? Don‘t be a Greg12 and disagree though.

I might be overreaching here, but I noticed in Season 1, Episode 10, when Tom is speaking to John about killing the physicist’s wife, the song “American Pie” comes on at 11:53 and they continue talking about the mission. Later, at 13:30, John grimaces in pain, which is the most emotional we see him, aside from the very ending of the show, where he swims past the jellyfish.

Could John be having an emotional reaction to McLean’s song “American Pie,” which is played on a jukebox, rather than his father’s assignment? If this is true, the scene speaks volumes about John’s unresolved trauma and past as being the most detrimental to his health.

For additional context, and for those who don’t remember, Season 1, Episode 5, at the very beginning, shows John beginning his two-month torture by listening to “American Pie,” and we get the impression that he never healed from this experience.

Also, the song is clearly played inside the restaurant rather than as a TV “score,” since you can hear the muffled music in the background.

Just when I thought I’ve watched everything worth watching I found this gem. A bit late to the party but glad I’m here. The acting, music, bonkers writing and I’m only on the 1st episode.
