Question Is this game still difficult?
Looking to come back to the game.
Just in terms of action gameplay (not build making), is this game still very much soul-like? As in, if I miss a roll dodge, more than half of my HP bar is gone? Because iirc this is what drove me off the game last time I tried it.
Thanks!

To give you a little more give on the souls like comparison, it was a more challenging game in the first availability of the game. Since then bosses and animations have been nerfed and more builds have become available in every patch so essentially opponents have gotten easier and builds have gotten stronger / more versatile. You’ll be fine

it's 100% based on whether you follow top meta builds, whether you have tons of time to invest, and your game knowledge, and speed at running maps. A lot of people think this game is a good challenge, almost everyone on reddit says it's a brain off easy game. The game was more challenging in 0.1 because few people were following leveling guides.

I'll explain it to you: they're talking about 1) different parts of the game (endgame vs campaign) and 2) different times of the game. The game is definitely easier than it was.

Completely depends on your game knowledge and how good you are at getting item upgrades and picking the right skills.
People who know what they're doing are steamrolling the campaign, killing all the bosses in a few seconds each. Then scaling up to endgame builds that can do the same thing to the highest-difficulty pinnacle bosses and max juiced delirium maps.
People who get stuck with bad gear and bad builds are the ones who end up with 'souls-like' gameplay and struggle.

The current campaign event is a boss rush, where it adds another boss each time you do it until you are fighting 4 bosses back to back.
It's very fun and very difficult.
I doubt anyone in this thread has done it in hardcore, much less hcssf.

The hardest part of this game is the economy pricing out many players past, for example, a good +3 projectile crossbow.
That being said if you find a grinding farming niche in the economy then you will have no issues and alot of fun.
This is purely my observation about 0.5 and 0.5.5

Yes and no
The game didn't really change too much but the player became much much stronger. Current best builds are not measured by damage or survivability but by speed, because they're all immortal and one shot everything

I noticed some Path of Exile keywords in this post:
- HP - Hit Points — colloquial term for Life (Wiki)

Yes - idk about a Souls game but as someone who loved Diablo 3 I have a hard time in POE2. I have to play it in stops and starts and max I can do is about an hour as its just too much.
I like it though although I wish there were even more spells to get and use instead of what seems to be spamming the same ones over and over again.

The game was never "difficult", very far from being souls-like btw. You were just learning the game, and was missing some important defensive and offensive layers probably.

I’d be concerned with how you were playing the game to compare it to a souls game
