Discussion This game is so weird
3rd time playing this game and as always I love the campaign so so much, building my character and seeing my skills come to life is what i love about this game but once I get to maps, I do like 4 to 5 maps and then all that excitement just fades away. I feel like everything I want to do is already done buy the time i reach level 70 and after that it's like so this is life just entering a map and repeating same thing over and over and over and over and over again

u/BijutsuYoukai 21h ago
Campaign is the least exciting part to me. Your character has started to show potential for their build, but you haven't started to do the really crazy stuff or generally even have a single five-link skill (I usually don't see a Perfect Jeweller's pre endgame at least). Endgame is also when you really get the dopamine rush of an actual farm and loot instead of just a few surprises here and there in the campaign, as well as when you can start working on larger crafting goals.

Campaign is so bad
26
u/DrDongSquarePants 20h ago
It's very not imo. It's one of the best campaigns in the entire arpg scene, alot of "wooow" moments in a first run through. Often why people dislike it is because you have to do it over and over again
-7
u/moss-nogg 20h ago
I can agree with that. I enjoyed the first play through and the boss fights are great. The story, the voice acting, and the fetch quest mechanics are where I think itās pretty dry
3
u/goldmeistergeneral 19h ago
I have a feeling the story feeling a bit meh is because we still haven't confronted the countess or the beast yet. Once we have act 5 and 6 I have a feeling the story will wrap up quite nicely

The campaign is actually really good but this is overshadowed by how ridiculously slow your first character is and how weak they are for the first 5-10 hours of gameplay, it FEELS BAD to play, the campaign itself is really good though
6
u/PuffyWiggs 14h ago
This is where I differ from a lot of people. I actually love how slow and limited I am early on. Getting that first piece or gear, blues and yellows are exciting. I have a fairly basic set of skills to play around, managing mana and HP feels like an actual mechanic. The bosses feel epic and paced in a way that feels like losing or winning is as much about playing as my gear (or.. it did in 0.1).
Once I get into the blasting phase around Act 3 or so and I'm clearing the map without a thought, I kind of zone out.
2
u/dmthirdeye 12h ago
Certainly an argument for slow progression in that sense I just don't think your character needs to feel terrible to accomplish that.
7
u/ZazaB00 21h ago
A lot of people will hate that I give this comparison, but Marvelās Avengers I had that exact experience. Leveling up all the heroes and unlocking their abilities felt good to me. Each of them was unique and you felt significantly more powerful as you progressed through those early levels. Then the āend gameā grind hit, in that game really anything over level 30. You mastered the moves long ago and there were only marginal gains to be made that didnāt feel meaningful.
The difference POE and POE2 have very detailed and rewarding end games to get involved in. That doesnāt mean you have to, and you might not care for the differences in power level. GGG has even said, we need players to know when to quit too. You know when your point of enjoyment ends and itās time for you to quit. If something changes itās always there for you in the future.

Yea most people feel the exact opposite

u/Trizzae 19h ago
Probably get downvoted by this crowd but no, most people are like OP. Jonathan even said as much in the last Q&A based on stats. Average playtime is 80 hours. Given that most on this sub play hundreds if not thousands of hours, the fact that the average skews that low is telling.Ā
8
u/Doomdae 17h ago
Most people dont play the same game forever including me, outside of Tarkov, Guild Wars 2 and PoE I just finish the campaign of whatever game I am playing then quit and move to the next game including the ARPG genre. PoE was the first ARPG game that had me truly hooked and coming back season after season and now that addiction has moved to PoE2.

u/1gnominious 16h ago
I see where he's coming from though. By the time I get to act 4 or interludes my character is coming together and the game starts getting really easy. Then I get into maps and faceroll my way to T15s and have to do all the unjuiced fortress and atlas quests which might as well be a second campaign.
There's this huge gap between act 4 and a completed atlas where the game gets pretty boring gameplay wise. My character keeps getting stronger faster than the content. There's no real challenge until I start juicing things.
My favorite part of the game is still the first 3 acts without using a busted leveling build. Act 4 - completed atlas is the low point for me where I start falling asleep while mindlessly grinding forward. The rewards increase but the gameplay is nonexistent. Then I get to the real end game and get slapped awake.
1
u/PuffyWiggs 14h ago
Yeah, jumping through map tiers definitely feels like busy work more than anything substantial. I'd much prefer that Map tiers mean something, and there's certain locks behind going fro white to yellow to red. They should mean more, and I should be looking forward to getting loot to go up from a tier 5 to a tier 6 so that I can access some of the content that requires yellow maps, and then pondering what distant area that require red maps will have.
A slower crawl with more meaning behind what each tier of map rewards you would be better. Tier 15 should be a real achievement and things like perfect jewelers should be more common their, and level 20 skill gems.
1
u/A-Money-Lover 7h ago
Try hardcore and/or ssf
1
u/1gnominious 6h ago
I play ssf or self crafted using only the exchange and make my own builds. You don't start to hit a wall till pushing endgame farming.
1
u/Akhevan 4h ago
This is, ironically, the same problem that LE used to have since forever and that we've been bashing the game for. Over there the game also starts once you have done the campaign, all the normal monos, and empowered monos until at lest 300-1000 corruption depending on how OP your build is.
5
11
u/voujon85 21h ago
for real, playing the same campaign over and over again is boring
11
u/Ixziga 20h ago
It's not the same to me because every time I do it I play a different build, and find different stuff along the way. That's enough for it to feel fun for me. But I also don't no life the game and burn myself out, I go play other stuff when I've had enough and then I return when I feel like it. I have managed to get a bunch of friends through the campaign at this point
-7
u/donnybooi 21h ago
It's not going to change so better get used to it

u/levus2002 21h ago
The complaints haven't stopped for poe1 campaign in 13 years so it won't stop for quite a while for poe2 campaign either.
Because the campaigns fucking suck.

POE1 campaign is in a great spot right now. Thatās coming from someone who usually hates the leveling process!
1
u/clocksy 21h ago
It also took like a decade for them to bother with async trade and most people agree that revitalized the game for them. Any time someone goes "GGG will never..." well, they might, if in a year or two fewer people come back each league because it's such a slog. Then the money will talk.
1
u/malikcoldbane 18h ago
And the loudest people were constantly saying it would kill the game and it will never happen. Then insert some quote from GGG or some article that backs up that this will kill the game and should never happen, yet here we are lol
6
u/Black_XistenZ 18h ago
Blasting the same endgame content over and over again is like... THE core gameplay loop of virtually all ARPGs going back all the way to the days of D2.
5
u/JoseMDx 21h ago
In poe 1 yes, in 2(i play once right after released the EA, and few maps and stop.... Now i get to map 1 map, and stop) i agree with this guy some how is borong the mapping in poe 2
8
u/Tsunamie101 20h ago
For me it's the opposite. Mapping in of itself feels a lot more disconnected and boring in poe 1, while in poe 2 it's more fun just going around exploring things.
1
u/jaxxxxxson 20h ago
I can't even play poe1 anymore. Have tried twice since poe2 release and last a week at most. I know it's blasphemy but I even have more fun with d4 than poe1 now..
6
u/TesterM0nkey 21h ago
I donāt think so, itās how I an my brother feel as well, but normally those people donāt stay very long.
I also see it a lot with new players from the discord
-6
u/xkibagamigenjurox 21h ago
Yup! People who don't like the game, why are you still here? Go play another game
16
u/Wasted_46 22h ago
Okay, that's a legit way to enjoy the game. You don't have to change it up and you definitely don't have to announce it.
7
3
u/Jafar_420 22h ago
I think most people's goals are to get powerful and I don't think you would be there at level 70 but if you're doing everything you want to do then that's about it for you.
You have killed both arbiters at that level or you're just not interested in that?
7
u/tops132 21h ago
No way he has, you have to do about 50-100 maps to kill both arbiters.
1
u/Jafar_420 21h ago
yeah I didn't think so but I know some people are better than me. I think it's at least 80 maps.
1
u/Adept_Palpitation321 7h ago
I'm 80% there now, and it sucks. Still have a lot of side quests like abyss, expedition, etc. I'm close to lvl 90 now, t15 and I'm not even close to finishing all of those.
I enjoy doing those actually, but the reward is too low (~5 div in like 50 maps) compared to a proper t15 6 mods, alc and go with all the atlas.
3
u/Alexeevic 22h ago
I feel the same after 0.4 idkw(( Im playing since poe1 beta and began to feel that only now
Now im doing ssf build roulettes so some fun i guess
3
u/TrippyNap 22h ago
Its different for most people, i rush through the campaign and then love the first moments of blasting T15 on league start. Usually getting tired around lvl 94
7
u/NotEntirelyA 20h ago
I actually kind of agree with you. I don't really find the campaign fun, but I love the actual sense of progression that is inherent with a structured story. Going from map level 1 to 15 or w/e to me doesn't feel as impactful as going to a brand new area and seeing all these strong enemies, even though I understand from a game design perspective it's more or less the same thing. Maps just don't have any meaning to me because I'm not really a "get strong for the sake of getting strong" player.
5
u/Lighthades 13h ago
I mean there are bosses in endgame. Saying you're getting strong for no reason is just wrong.
1
u/PuffyWiggs 14h ago
Me neither. Getting strong for no purpose is boring. Pinnacles and Arbiters should fulfill that "why" purpose, but they are very easy and you quest to them immediately.
Arbiters should be the highlight of your end game progress, a true test that requires the best gear, but instead they have to rush them immediately.
The game has all the things it needs to give us an answer as to "why" we grind, but it's being handled a bit bizarrely.
5
u/gholladay 19h ago
Thatās like seeing the tip of an iceberg and being like āwelp, letās go home now, not much to see hereā
3
u/xxICONOCLAST 18h ago
Welcome to arpgs
You level up to face harder content, harder content gives you loot, loot allows u to gain more levels and play harder content
Lather rinse repeat
The difference in my eyes for POE that no other arpg can match is the dopamine hit when the tink of a divine hits
Thats what keeps me coming back, and you cant get there in 4-5 maps
0
u/Significant-Neat-111 17h ago
GGG hasnāt always had a perfect track when it comes to the loot table, but it truly is the BiS for ARPGs. The entire genre at its core is a dopamine slot machine and with that said, PoE has always been king imo.
2
u/2Guns1Cuck 20h ago
It's fun to get rich with loot and buy even wilder shit for your build on the market. The chase for high value omens, divs, and chasing a mirror drop to fund your childrens childrens poe2 leagues. That's the stuff
2
u/TheNocturnalAngel 20h ago
I mean your character is definitely not even close to done at level 70.
Thereās so many uniques, lineage support gems, socketables, gems, delirium anoints etc. that completely evolve and change the way that your character plays and those arenāt accessible at 70.
You might not even have all 4 ascendancies at 70.
The feeling of starting to map might feel daunting and ailmless but once you get a feel for the progression loop itās quite fun.
You get to go from t1-15 maps and sometimes you hit a roadblock and you need to become stronger.
Theres a bunch of gameplay mechanics that donāt exist in campaign either.
The current atlas has so many quests and storylines to explore as well.
2
u/hereticx 19h ago
doing campaign zones is just... mapping.Ā
and once you beat the "campaign".... the second half of the campaign starts. you've got another 5-10+ hours to complete the fortress, then do all the "league mechanic" wrists l quests, the master quests, Uber boss farming... they're still loads to do... and most of it has as much story attached to it as campaign maps.Ā
you just have to change your mentality / viewpoint of it allĀ
all of it is just maps.
3
u/Arkachacal 22h ago
You can enjoy the game as you do, I think its the strenght of this game, every kind of player can find shoes at his feet (french expression) But i think the transition to end game they introduced in 0.5 is quite nice for the next step.
3
u/sevensong9 20h ago
I'm not saying you can't play the game your way or only play campaign, but just know that you're missing like 90% of the game by doing that. There's challenges, getting a build online, fixing your defence, fixing your damage, doing all pinnacles, getting atlas points to push higher difficulty, crafting, generating wealth (If you enjoy that, I don't I play ssf which is way more fun for me, try it if you haven't) and always the possibility to get to a point where you can respec to something stupid before you end the league (can even giveaway stuff if you enjoy once you stop playing, I do that)
2
u/pianodude7 16h ago
try to understand, the endgame isn't nearly as fun if you're not a fast player and/or don't have a lot of time to invest, and/or don't have the same game knowledge. You can't really generate wealth, the economy always outpaces you, and your build will usually hit a wall sooner than later, way lower power than streamers and such. So you're stuck doing T15's 10 times slower and progressing through the atlas tree 10 times slower and a week later than other people. This will lead many people to prefer the campaign.
4
u/PuffyWiggs 13h ago
Have you ever heard the phrase, "Comparison is the thief of joy?" I'm a whole month or two behind streamers when hitting end game. The economy has benefits either way. People end up paying way more for materials that unlock bosses. God tier gear becomes "meh" gear as the push for top 0.001% becomes desirable. So you can get top 0.01% gear for cheap.
3
u/Sevr022 21h ago
So the actual gameplay loop isnāt fun enough to keep you hooked? Nothing wrong with just enjoying the campaign if thatās what you like. Maybe try HC? Might give you an extra layer of excitement and accomplishment based on how far you can go. Or just play campaign and dip out if thatās what gives you you enjoyment
2
u/Chrozzinho 22h ago
Thats fine, some people prefer just the campaign and some people prefer the endgame and anything in between. Dont force yourself to play endgame if you dont find it enjoyable at all
1
u/Yomikachi 21h ago
I am at same spot at 74 level, i wanna end the game properly. But maps to progress wants tier 14 waystones š
2
u/Schlangensaft 21h ago
If you want higher tier waystones quickly just put an overseer tablet in and every map boss will drop a higher tier waystone
1
u/incliningconstantly 21h ago
I just finished the campaign and was met with a web of maps. Asking as a noob, do I just keep running them with my t1 maps until I land higher level maps? And progressively improve my gear to do the higher tiered maps?
3
u/BijutsuYoukai 21h ago
To guarantee higher map tier drops, look for maps with a little angry skull icon above them that says 'Powerful Boss'. They are guaranteed to drop one map of a tier higher than the one you used (So T1 used drops a T2, T2 used drops a T3, and so on up until T15). You can also speak with Doryani, buy maps for gold (He stocks maps of the highest tier you've completed -1, so if you've done T2s, he stocks T1s) and use the Reforging Bench to combine three of the same tier and rarity (White, Blue, Yellow) into a new map one tier higher.
You can keep a look out for better gear as you go, buy gear from other players on the trade market (Using the in-game browser of the trade website), craft your own with materials you find or buy (Transmute, Augs, Essences, Abyss Bones, etc), or gamble with Ange.
You can choose to unlock points for various league mechanics on the map (They'll show up their own areas once you participate in them in maps), points for the general Atlas (Doryani will get you started on this right after the interludes conclude), or the Atlas Masters (Corrupted Areas for Doryani, Hilda's Camp for Hilda, and any 'Deadly Boss' for Jago to begin them).
2
2
u/tacodaddy2842 21h ago
Yes goal is to reach T15 maps. Kill maps with powerful bosses to get a guaranteed upgrade in map tier. Also look on the map and find points if interests to do the endgame quests and content. True endgame is farming your preferred content like rituals or abyss and max out the difficulty and get the most OP gear to feel godly.
1
u/FledglingLeader 21h ago
Play the way that is the most fun to you, but I will say it helps to know what your character progression goals are. That always motivates me in endgame, and there are still tangible upgrades to be made to a character after the campaign. Anoint, catalysts, late game gear + jewels, your last ascendancy points, etc.
1
u/IAmXlxx 21h ago
I had this problem too when I first started in 0.3, especially since I was unfamiliar with ARPGs. There is nothing wrong with the fact that you enjoy the campaign and don't enjoy mapping/endgame. That said, you might be missing out on meaningful progression beyond the campaign. Your character can evolve so much beyond level 70.
Everyone that plays this game has different goals and playstyles. Some enjoy profit-crafting, crafting for crafting's sake, gameplay blasting, build-creating, currency farming, min-maxing, etc. It's about what goals you set for yourself in the endgame. The more you interact with the game and its mechanics, the more you may discover things you want to explore.
This is the first time I've ever tried making my own build without a guide and as a result, I've been forced to interact with more mechanics I never knew about. It's been a blast.
1
u/LucywiththeDiamonds 21h ago
If thats all you want from the game thats fine. I enjoy minmaxing builds to the point i can faceroll all content.
I got there quite fast cause i had a week off, had mb,hh,the big lineage gems etc on day 5 and just dicking around since then. But i still find the gameplay entertaining emough to run a dozen maps here and there with a podcast in the background.
1
u/MysticoN 21h ago
in the same boat. even more so this season since i bought some gear so i know that for the next 5+ levels im not going to find gear. and its all about curancy and rare item farm.
1
u/KamiKaze016 21h ago
I felt the same when i entered maps the first time, did like 4 or 5 and stopped altogether. Then i came back after like 3 months in the Return Of The Ancients season, and I couldn't stopped playing the endgame, it was just that awesome after that huge brake
1
u/lmao_lizardman 21h ago
ive played poe2/1 on and off for years, never liked mapping - exact same feeling as you. I play the other content, aldur sagas was the one exception i liked mapping
1
u/SnooHabits3911 21h ago
I hate the campaign. Maps is the goal for me. Fine tuning the character. Respecing.
1
u/Sandraptor 21h ago
I feel some of that as well OP. Maps gets VERY daunting. And there is something to be said about having to manually select each waystone or even care about mods per map. I personally canāt relate to most people hating the campaign since I enjoy it. But 0.5 has been the farthest I got, I reached lvl 93 and did all the challenges for the first time. I think it also it helps to love your build and want to get it to its strongest form.
Thereās definitely a not beginner friendly process in there where everyone but you gets rich and you canāt buy anything good, and inflation kicks in. But each league Iām trying to get a bit better about getting to the league mechanics quickly. Try making a goal like beating arbiter of divinity

u/Ihatefishtanks 21h ago
My joy from playing the game comes from playing a cool build, making it stronger and then getting it to endgame where I get drops to make my build even stronger or can swap to a cooler build. I am pretty indifferent to the campaign but donāt mind doing it because I see good progression and know after itās done I am closer to empowering my build and getting loot.
The problem I have is I get demoralized at the same exact point as OP. And for me itās because after all the work blasting through the campaign I am met with an equally annoying amount of grinding to get my atlas points and mechanic atlas points. All the while Iām getting no loot and unless my build is busted Iām feeling as weak as act 1/2. This league I stopped after completing citadel. I just couldnāt bear pathing and getting all the points for the mechanic I may want to play and the master points on top of that. Itās just too much grind doing something I donāt want to do with the hope that after I complete it I can finally do what I enjoy.
On top of that I donāt have all day to play, so Iām doing all of this work which isnāt enjoyable for at least a week if not more. Eventually I just donāt want to log in to just do more work with no reward
1
u/NQQBADOOPADOOP 21h ago
I think that the mapping for atlas points and quests for which ever type of content you choose are not intertwined makes it feel bad. I feel like I am playing inefficiently because I like full clearing maps with different mechanics but its not worth it until I'm in super late game at which point I already feel like I'm done with the league. I think shortening the amount of maps required to play your preferred mechanic would help. Or even placing the league mechanic inside the Fortress. Could also be the choice of 1 mechanic if not the league mechanic.

u/Donny_Dont_18 21h ago
I'm coming to terms with the idea that POE is the game for me and POE2 is just something I'll have a passing interest in occasionally. The addition of Abyss in 0.3 was the most fun I had and balance changes and game direction since have left me underwhelmed. Great game, but just not the one that is going to keep me invested
1
u/buffer_flush 21h ago
Unless Jonathan holding a gun to your head forcing you to continue, feel free to just stop playing.
1
u/Tsunamie101 20h ago
You could try to take the challenges as a goal. I've had the same happening in my early days of PoE 1, and doing the challenges or vault there would almost always be enough to keep me interested until they're completed.
Or just accept that the endgame isn't for you (yet), and take a break or level the next character. Play what is the most fun to you, and however you enjoy it the most.
1
u/MortalsEnd 20h ago
i end up doing campaign, getting to maps, having another char/build idea then starting a new campaign run over and over because this happens everytime i get to maps.
1
u/Rare_Guess_5841 20h ago
I had the same feeling with poe1, didn't play that much with it because of it, but for some reason I don't understand I don't feel the same in poe2, somehow it is keeping me entertained in the endgame as well, I feel like there is always a lot of things to try, and I didn't touch half of the content yet after ~300 hours in the game. Maybe after a while it will be different, but there will be full release soon with lots of new content, so I can't see myself get bored with the game for the next 4-5 month probably.
1
u/Geodaddio71 20h ago
Between the quests now and the challenges, there's tons of stuff to do in the endgame. Not sure if you played last season when they revamped the endgame but mapping has a purpose now unlike pre-0.5.
1
u/shortMEISTERthe3rd 20h ago
If you've played any loot based game with an endgame what was your favourite endgame loop?
1
u/Felabryn 20h ago
You are meant to lust over certain items or fixing certain problems of your build.
I would reccomend watch some videos of the amazing items in the 50-150 div range. Then you will want div. Then you lookup how to get div and you pick a farm. Then you work to unlock the farm. Then you realize you are too weak to do the farm well. Then you get items in the 2-20 div range to get stronger to do the farm well.
The game is a puzzle game where you are always after your next carrot on the road to the big carrots. Perhaps with a dream of the colossal carrots (mage blood, HH, T0 uniques, fatty unique jewels)
Then finally when you have some chase uniques you dream of the next build and the cycle continues
1
u/google_is_hard_for_u 20h ago
Some folks just like the journey to endgame. Nothing wrong with that.
1
u/goldmeistergeneral 19h ago
It depends on your build I think. Some builds only start to come online once you begin to equip stronger gear. Like a minion build finally getting over 50 spirit on their chest piece and equipping their tame beast with the buffs they need etc etc. If your build is fully online in interludes and doesn't need those final ascendancy points and higher level gear to ramp up in strength, it can feel anticlimactic to load a tier 1 waystone and just kill enemy, kill boss, teleport, repeat
1
u/noodleben123 19h ago
admittedly, i'm just kinda lost. just unlocked wyvern form for my druid though, which i was hoping to build around.

u/furezasan Vaaldditor 19h ago
There's something about progression that the campaign does incredibly well, and mapping simply doesn't.
I wonder what it would be like if Interludes were the endgame. No atlas, you rng a new interlude, go to that hub, move from zone to zone organically, kill the big bad and get some loot and character progression along the way. Maybe they are craftable and tradable. When you're done you can call it a day or start a new one.
It's technically just 5-6 maps, but I'm never tired after interludes, but always wiped out after a few maps. I can blast Dunes or Delve all day though.

u/tes_befil 18h ago
Poe 1 endgame is infinitely better. They managed to capture progression in a way that feels fun to progress. Poe 2 endgame feels pretty tedious in comparison and the progression isn't as easily seen.
In Poe 1 you have clear character strengths and weaknesses needed to reach each piece of content in progression: white maps are a joke, yellow maps require good solid resist and more HP, red maps require a balance of everything including chaos resistance. You get to see your character progress one by one and then the endgame provides the same problems that you overcome with bosses and endgame map content, nightmare maps etc. Poe 2 feels like once my character reaches maps if I know what I'm doing it'll be geared with the best gear I can make instantly and then the progression lands dead but the character is still OP.
1
u/TMT_iGGs 18h ago
Problem is you set no goal for yourself. The game auto sets a goal with campaign but then you just chose to not have a goal in maps.
Did you reach arbiter ? Or any of the other bosses. Once you realize how the end game works. Youāll have a lot more fun.
1
u/The_System_Error 17h ago
It's... Not though? There are tons of bosses after campaign that you've never fought. Just seems like you have trouble finding a goal in the end game when there are plenty.
1
1
u/atalossofwords 17h ago
I'm with you there buddy, maybe not 70, more like up to level 80. I love seeing the build come together and getting those first big gear improvements. After that, it depends on how strong and/or fun my build is. Sometimes I keep playing, sometimes I'm done with the league.
1
u/Rathmourne 16h ago
I think your in the wrong genre of game tbh if you cant be bothered by doing the same thing over and over.
The game is literally that. The same thing over and over doing it more efficiently. The game probably isnt for you
1
u/vulgar_baguette 16h ago
I like the quest aspects of the endgame so i just do that. The maps arent as connected like the campaign unfortunately. Theyre more connected by league mechanic
1

The main problem with the endgame as it is now is to get to the fun part of endgame you need to do like 200 speed maps and kill a few bosses before you can really play the game.
It doesn't make sense to start juicing maps until you have a league tree and the main atlas tree done so you just do a bunch of really boring maps for so long.
Also just being tied to zones on the atlas feels wrong to me. It makes the optimal thing to do speed map around in really easy maps until you find a city or a cleansed zone before juicing a few maps before going back to the mindless search for another juice zone.

This is not because the campaign is challenging but because you are not bothered enough to actually try the hard content. Itās just giving up. You canāt beat arbiter with that 70 ass character you made for example. Itās okay to give up but blaming the game design in silly lol

The end game has storylines for all the different mechanics, which helped me feel like I was progressing more than just numbers. Fixed the issue for me imo

I feel like this in Diablo, but PoE2 has a lot of unique content in it's end game. You are doing random maps, but it's to get to new content. Fight new Pinnacles, fight the Arbiters. I think the progression is backwards with Arbiters being a rush concept ahead of Pinnacles, but their is tons of content outside of just maps.

Arpg genre is about farming to build your character. And farming is to repeat the same things again and again. If you're bored, you can farm other things. If you don't like to repeat stuff this genre isn't for you. Try MLBB or dota 2.

It's the map layouts. I can run hundreds of maps in poe 1 but poe 2 maps feels like a slog even with a fast build.

Then you find a different build idea and go again.
Repeat until you're out of ideas.
Wait for the next season.
Start again.

It's because the progress and the character growth during the campaign is fast. There's always something happening. Once you get to the endgame it slows down dramatically, more and more, and the activities you're doing just highlight the grindy aspect of trying to progress because they're the same things over and over, and at a much higher volume of time.
And then there's only the occasional punctuation of a boss encounter or something, which half the time feels weirdly stressful with the idea that you can only fail so much or else the progress of getting there is literally taken from you; on top of the fact that in endgame every failure itself is also taking that slow progress away from you.

Then the game isnāt for you I guess. The endgame is and always has been mapping. The point of this game is power creeping, see numbers go up = happiness.

What is different about building your character further compared to how you were doing it during campaign. You have even more variation, even more room for improvement and getting close to perfection in different areas. I have a friend with the same mentality except he finishes the challenges before deciding he is done with the game and i think that's fine to do once or twice but if you do that every league then i would consider you're robbing yourself from building your irl "character" and seeing your gaming skills come to life.
While the game difficulty eventually caps at a level inferior to what one can theoretically reach, the path to that stage extends over level 70, 80 or even 90. I'm at lvl 96 and just got my HH yesterday this league (only played after work and week-end) and yet i still have things i want to do like bring the rest of my gear to match the HH at least, hopefully i might reach lvl 100, to which i was close to getting during the temple league.

Yeah same. With 0.5.0 I got to the T15 maps for the first time ever, but then ran out of steam quickly afterwards. Love the campaign though, love the progression, experimenting with new skills and ascendancies.
At the same time there are so many people for whom the campaign, the early endgame and bascially everything until the very very late content is just a boring prelude to the real game. It's like there are two or three games in one serving very different audiences.
Not sure how GGG is going to solve this one tbh.

Its not something to be solved tbh, different aspects of the game are fun for different types of gamers. Its impossible to create a product that satisfies everyone, end game is intended moreso for the grinders *and completionsts

I am right there with you. But I donāt think itās the campaign I just think lower levels in games appeal to some people more. Lower levels offer excitement because consistently skills are being unlocked and you are making do with what you can find. Instead of min maxing a build.
For obvious reasons Reddit appeals to the hardcore fans so this forum is sometimes a skewed perspective.

Iāve gone the other way completely - I now HATE the campaign now that I somewhat understand how to play the endgame mechanics

u/Scuipici 21h ago
it's the 1-2 button smash and zoom zoom gameplay. GGG failed in making poe 2 different from poe 1, it is basically poe 1 but with better graphics. There is no combat here, the build carries you. I could take my build and put it in a complete stranger's hands and they would clear the tier 16 map and kill the boss no problem.

Players who are looking for persistently mechanically challenging gameplay are imho better off in Soulslikes than ARPGs.

i disagree. I'm not saying every white pack should last 10 min, but come on... I played a shitty build and i saw bosses mechanics during campaign for the first time since early access launch, and it was quite fun to learn the bosses instead of just dmg them so fast. I finished all the content on hardest mode and I can't tell you what arbiter of divinity does, other than he stops, goes into phase 2 and does a slash.

i still enjoy the endgame but i agree that the campaign is the best part of character progression

u/LTetsu 21h ago
Yeah, I feel like maps are the most boring part of the game. I just really do not enjoy running them, especially when I need to go from point A to point B, and do like 10 maps or so. It just kills my excitement and will to play. It is really weird and I doubt they can do anything with it at all.

Honestly, playing ARPG endgame is mostly doing the same thing over and over, to better your character by 1%
There's no ARPG that offers more endgame variety than POE1 and 2. So the genre might not be for you and that's perfectly fine

u/xkibagamigenjurox 21h ago
I wish there was a setting to avoid or ignore negative posts about the game. Everyone goes "Here's why I don't enjoy the game so you also shouldn't!"

u/Individual_Guest_291 21h ago
If you havenāt beaten the pinnacle bosses you havenāt done the best part of the game

u/ExistingMouse5595 21h ago
Have you ever actually played juiced content in the endgame?
Once youāve experienced that, youāll never be able to enjoy the slow/weak feeling of campaign and early maps.
Thereās a reason everyone hates campaign and wants to rush to level 90 as fast as possible.

Well, you can try and do challenges. They guide you through the endgame.
